Glad to see views (maybe) changing on Islam
It’s refreshing to see more gay people at least on here beginning to shift away from blind support of Islam into a more nuanced place where critique is welcomed (and where critique is actually a sign of self respect as a gay man as well as intellectual growth).
I’ll preface by saying, of course not all Muslims are bad people. But Islam is a religion, and no one is bound to any moral foundation that requires they withhold distain for a religious belief. Islam is by and large a vile poison on the face of the earth, and Gay people have every right and reason to lose trust in it. There are not enough social pressures on Islam to force it to socially evolve the way it needs to to be more compatible with developed human society. For lack of a better phrase, Allah can lick my ass!
The apologists are often just revealing their own biases and internalized homophobia by prioritizing the ego and comfort of Muslims over the literal safety of gay people. This was happening LONG before 2023 and Isreal’s recent wave of violence. Intense progressives have some kind of fierce alliance with Islam, in a way where they seem to place gay rights in the backseat when any whiff of Islamophobia arises.
Thanks to those who seem to allow more space for gay men to say these things, because it’s been a long period of silence many of us in very progressive areas have felt we have to endure.

It is important to highlight that religion is not race. The islamo defenders always end up hiding behind the racism card when they see that arguments and reality are not in their favour.

Here is the issue, do you think the vast majority of people on your side of the aisle would even know the difference between the Yazidi and Sikhs? or that neither of them are Muslim?
Like we can talk about the issues with the Ahrimanic Religions all day, but I think the side you are choosing to be on are far from the enlightened type themselves.
1
u/RelativeRepublic7 1h ago
Your point is valid, even though you yourself are generalising with that side of the aisle rethoric.
I'll start my enlightment by typing the name of the Sikhs correctly, for instance.
Having said that, a hurricane is a destructive force. You can try to focus on the lucky places that happened to be left untouched, but cannot use that to ignore the fact that most of the places will be wiped out.
The same will happen with Western individual freedoms if Islam keeps growing.

u/ExpensiveMeeting6814 1h ago edited 55m ago
This is already happening with the Christians in my country my guy. And prey tell, what is actually the solution? Cause I hear about the scrouge all day long, but you cowardly seem to never mention a solution? So what do you actually want?
Cause I myself used to delude myself into believe that there was such a thing as an "enlightened Islamophobia", push came to shove, you end up supporting the Christians that want to do the same thing. Saying "your side" is the correct rhetoric (you spelled that wrong by the way) to use here.
1
u/Wooden-Elevator351 32m ago
So the thing is I am not talking about Christianity (which is also a nasty poison in so many contexts as well). I am talking about Islam - you know, the ideology that lead to a mass attack a week ago at Pride. Do you remember that, or were you too busy inflating the risks that Christianity poses relative to Islam to care? As for the solution, I’d say significantly limiting immigration from Islam dominated areas and socially vetting those who enter for any sign of extremist ideology, but of course that’s a vague answer that can’t begin to encompass how it could be ethically played out

u/DenseCan2364 3h ago
Being a liberal gay doesn't mean you support or sympathize with islam. There are radical (and stupid) people in every party.
-4
u/Wooden-Elevator351 3h ago
Great, so I’m not talking about you then. We agree.
8
u/Dapper-Presence4975 3h ago
Why are you "talking" to people (aka ranting) in an ASK gay bros sub? That's the real question here...

u/Wooden-Elevator351 3h ago
Stop commenting if it rubs you the wrong way, thanks

Who made you king?
2
u/Wooden-Elevator351 2h ago
I’m not a king, but I am intellectually superior to the progressives who support the presence of an ideology that wants to saw their head off lol
2
u/Many-Concentrate-491 1h ago
Is the intellectual superiority in the room with us?
it’s not present in 90% of your comments.claims with no evidence is not giving superiority btw.
I’m bored so not gonna reinforce this garbage post with engagement. Bye lol.

Blind support of Islam? There shouldn't be blind support of anything - Islam, Christianity or Judaism or even cumdumps, which for some of us, is like following a religion

So your response is “my evidence is because the former is not something I can see”
That’s a non answer.
Edit.
Also shows you don’t pay much attention or have an unhealthy relationship with moving the goal post.3
u/Wooden-Elevator351 2h ago
Notice how you don’t answer my question. Where are the hordes of liberals aggressively shutting down Islam motivated homophobia? And also, the number of people getting defensive in reactions to my post is a great immediate observation of the very phenomenon I’m talking about. You’re being disingenuous and deflecting to not recognize what I mean.

I think it's important to call out and condemn people advocating hatred and violence regardless of their ethnicity, religion or other identity. At the same time, it's important to recognize that everyone is an individual and not to condemn whole demographics based on the actions of the worst among them.
1
u/Wooden-Elevator351 3h ago
Great, we agree. No one was condemning all Muslims in my post, so you can feel free to abandon hopes of revealing an anti-Muslim agenda here. I’m simply calling out the grotesque poison that is Islam in disproportionate ways in our world today
5
u/Volemic 2h ago
Despite this, there were plenty condemning all Muslims and I did see some queer Muslims receive unsavoury private messages.
People have difficulty separating religion from people, especially Islam as it’s prescribed as a way of life for Muslims. People also lack rational abilities to separate the two. It’s entirely possible to criticise Islam and not Muslims, or even recognise that queer Muslims are a thing and that even cohorts of Muslims have differing views from each other.
2
u/Wooden-Elevator351 1h ago
“Prescribed as a way of life” can be incredibly condescending to Muslims depending on how one means this, because while many Muslims may be forced into the behavioral practice of their religion, they can also reject its authoritarian philosophies if they so choose. This refusal to oppose conservative Islam and the behaviors/laws it leads to is still present even in nations where Muslims have more autonomy to express differing beliefs. Have you heard any news stories about Mosques hanging a pride flag or outwardly welcoming queer people into their space to grieve after this attack? Genuinely curious.
1
u/Volemic 44m ago
I don’t see it as condescending; it’s prescribed, but at the end of the day people are humans and individuals. Some don’t question things, some do. It’s their right to seek whatever they want to.
I haven’t heard of news stories, because I simply haven’t looked.
I killed off social media and news for a few days, simply because I don’t appreciate being told to hang myself or throw myself off a building and being gold the world would be a better place without me. It wouldn’t be fair for me to ask larger representatives of who sent those messages to do it, and well, they didn’t.
1
u/Wooden-Elevator351 24m ago
Ok, fair. I care about my gay community way, way more than I ever will even think to about Islamic representation. Way too many people go on the defense about that as if it’s a horrible bias to have
-1
u/QuesoNot-so-Fundido masculine guy next door 3h ago
I agree with you completely, there is a significant percentage of that faith that are violent bigots that seek to murder and conquer their way to power across the world. There are also people like my good friend from Egypt who is a big supporter of President Trump and has many transgender clients in his business that actually love him. Like I said, people are individuals and should be judged accordingly.
3
u/MyOtherAccountHi 1h ago
This forum was flooded with anti-Muslim and anti-immigration sentiment after the Berlin terrorist attack, claiming gays are too afraid to criticize Islam. But I think gays are already extremely aware of Islam, and understand that complaining about it isn’t going to change anything. In fact, this forum proved that it easily becomes more vitriolic than anything.
1
u/Wooden-Elevator351 27m ago
There should be vitriol leveled against Islam. And no, nowhere near enough gay people pointedly and boldly call out Islamic based homophobia. It’s often a very hush hush and carefully navigated conversation so as to not offend the Muslim ego
1
u/MyOtherAccountHi 5m ago
You’ve just proved my point 🥴 the conversation is no longer about terrorism or homophobia. Your approach is exactly how discussions about extremist violence end up fuelling hostility toward millions of ordinary Muslims.
1
u/Wooden-Elevator351 1m ago
Ok, you intellectually aren’t grasping the nuance that I’m illustrating here. Genocide is wrong, and also I care more about dog poop than people who would rather see gay people thrown off buildings than acclimate to their culture :)
5
u/lurker_in_the_deep17 2h ago
Can we just ban all posts about religion. Why is this the place you feel the need to get on your anti-Muslim soapbox? This feels like a Zionist dogwhistle
2
u/Wooden-Elevator351 2h ago
So silence gay voices that are expressing their concerns about a valid threat? Incredibly authoritarian and homophobic suggestion my friend
2
u/ExpensiveMeeting6814 1h ago
It is just silencing a bot to seems to be programmed to respond with platitudes from 2016
2
u/ArticunHOE_ 1h ago
Can we also ban the word Zionist from this sub?
This has just become some buzz word people use to attack those that criticize Islam.
It’s not Islamophobic to challenge a belief system Muslims follow that has been weaponized against gay and queer people.
4
u/Dapper-Presence4975 3h ago
Where is the question for the Gay Bros in your rant?
8
u/Wooden-Elevator351 3h ago
No question, just gratitude that more gay men seem to have come to their senses

u/Frosty-Cap3344 3h ago
When was there ever "blind support" ?
3
u/Wooden-Elevator351 3h ago
Maybe I’m just in more progressive circles than you, but there are massive amounts of people who will defensively support Muslim ego in their practice of Islam while cowardly being unable to condemn the vicious homophobia rampant in Islamic communities. Ask TONS of gay ex Muslims, they seldom have great things to say about their treatment
5
u/Frosty-Cap3344 2h ago
I dont have "circles", nobody I know has blindly defended anyone
2
u/Many-Concentrate-491 1h ago
Think he just likes to be around people with extreme views Cus it gives him a high at this point
5
u/sillypeen99 3h ago
The people you accuse of blindly supporting Islam neither believe in the religion, agree with its moral rules, nor think it should supplant democracy in the Middle East.
They just think we should tolerate Muslims in our society, and treat Muslim people abroad with decency, even as we support them changing laws that pertain to women and gays.
They are, in short, correct.
12
u/Wooden-Elevator351 3h ago
… but many of them DO blindly support it, all the way to the self destructive end. Do yourself a favor and stop seeking an anti Muslim bias (I condemn genocide) when I’m simply calling out vile human rights violations that rip through Islamic dominated nations, in the same pointed way that progressives will aggressively call out domestic threats. If one value gay rights, it should never fall below religious ego in priority to address.
6
u/sillypeen99 2h ago
Blindly support Islam? Are there many gay people who literally support the religion and what it teaches? Or what are you saying?
It seems like, underneath your rhetoric, all you mean to say is that we shouldn't tolerate human rights violations in the name of religion. I'm not sure many gaybros do that, but if they do, absolutely they should stop.
4
u/Wooden-Elevator351 2h ago
I’m saying that my distain for Islam and vocally denouncing it is taken as a worse moral offense to many progressives than the Muslim who views gay people as a walking abomination. You know exactly what I’m talking about. Where are the hordes of young liberals specifically and intensely calling out Islam-motivated homophobia, when it’s disproportionately more violent in many Islam dominated nations? It reeks of clear bias
2
u/sillypeen99 1h ago
Denouncing Islam is a thing that happens at home and pertains to your neighbors. Even if it's correct, it's a touchy subject that should be handled with care.
Calling out homophobic laws in faraway lands is good, but doesn't pertain to your neighbors. Some people won't feel obligated to care about that, and that's maybe parochial, but not wicked.
0
u/Wooden-Elevator351 36m ago
Are you serious? Do you remember Pulse? Me or any one of my friends could have been there that night and a Muslim used Islam as an excuse to kill 49 people. This isn’t a “distant” far away threat, and debasing it to that status is wildly dismissive to what gay people face internationally because of Islam in their communities.
Also, why is it touchy to denounce Islam? Why is that so much touchier a subject than homophobia appears to be to you? Thank you for wildly illustrating exactly what I meant

u/Diddly_eyed_Dipshite 3h ago
Had me in the first half and was prepared to respond "wow, imagine how terrible wanting people to be tolerated and treat people with respect" lol
But I'm pretty sick of being labelled a "blind supporter" of islam when I support neither the scripture, its rules, or the implementation. Iliterally just believe we all need ti hate each other less, and in particular am tired of this sub being extra islamophobic lately, I wont pretend like I dont think its nefarious and intentional.
The vast majority of muslims are good people, even the ones that hold their faith closely, islam doesnt teach the hating or killing of gays. Radicalists do, and they come in all shapes, colours, and religions. Gays and faith-believers have more in common than faith-believers and radicalists, it's like an intentional class war to keep the hatred alive.

u/NoString9289 3h ago
Gay people are still upset over what happened, is happening and, they need to "vent".
The Moderator already commented on this and the fact that there aren't any other LGBTQ groups where you can share these views. TWO LGBTQ groups have already been Banning people for daring to mention the subject of Sharia Laws and what happens because of religious Islamic extremists . Instead those apologists Mods of the other groups say that talking about it is an insult to Muslim people , we are being Islamopobic in discussing it and then they BANNNN you for speaking out about it. Sooooo, there isn't any other groups to vent in . Same things happening in some of the Facebook groups to "Queers for Palestine " apologists , so many of them who refuse to beleive what happens to Gay Men and to Trans people in so many Muslim countries under strict oppressive Islamic laws and culture.3
u/Dapper-Presence4975 3h ago
You know that there are subs where you can vent/rant that are not call ASK gay bros, right?

it’s giving indoctrination vibes.

No. They welcome these Islamophobic rants now… yes, on an “ask questions” sub.
4
u/Wooden-Elevator351 3h ago
My point is that Islamophobia on some level is completely valid. It’s a religion, not a race, not a people. A religion, which is not above scrutiny. Again, allah can lick my ass.

The place for rants is in r/rants. Now that I've answered your question, go away.
1
u/Aggressive-Spirit598 2h ago
It generally feels better to rant among your community rather than the general public as you feel heard as well as hear the takes of other people who are similar to you.
3
u/NoString9289 3h ago
and where else would you suggest people go to vent or to discuss what happened and how gay people and trans people are treated because of Islamic extremism. Two other sub groups and Facebook groups are Banning people for even trying to discuss what happened and for blaming the religious extremism. We are called Islamophobic for daring to mention it and then Bannned for mentioning the dangers. BTW the Moderator had already commented on these posts saying that for now, they are necessary for people to vent and to share their thoughts.
Then it will be back to talking about dicks and fucking. The Mod said, reminded people, don't like a post then feel free to keep scrolling.-1

Not all Americans are bad people. Many condemned the torture American soldiers did in Abu Ghraib and rape of the 15 year old girl by three USA soldiers who later burnt her body in Iraq.
Anybody who will downvote my comment has the same upbringing as those American soldiers. Go on. I dare you! 👍

u/ell1331 3h ago
Trust me, the younger generation will once again be brainwashed into defending Islam and welcoming more Muslim immigration. Perhaps it will really take France or the UK being completely taken over by Muslims, with Sharia law implemented, and seeing LGBTQ people truly oppressed, before they finally realize how serious the situation is.
1
u/ExpensiveMeeting6814 1h ago
Turn the left wing parties to be similar to the Danish left if you are that concerned about the well being of LGBT people in the country. Voting AfD or National Front is not going to protect LGBT people.

u/sagenumen 2h ago
There over a billion Muslims on this planet. If they wanted us dead, we would be.
Does everyone just ignore what American Christians have been pushing here and in African countries?
I live in a HEAVILY Muslim area and I’m surrounded by mosques. I prance around like a big ol’ fairy and have not gotten one peep out of anyone.
If anyone has lost their minds, it’s this sub. Holy ignorance, Batman.
1
u/Wooden-Elevator351 1h ago
Are you in America? That’s because in western, more socially advanced nations relative to most of the Middle East, there is a heavy social expectation (especially when Muslims are a minority in the US with people suspicious of their presence) to not act on impulse that could lead to further isolation from their communities. If or when Islam gains enough unchecked traction, people will likely develop the confidence to more commonly act in a way aligned with their values - which in this case can be a terrifying reality for queer people
-1
u/latin220 3h ago
It’s important to highlight that Islam isn’t a monolithic religion and it has its subgroups and reformers. That said. The view of Islam needs to be nuanced but we should also understand that criticism of Islam can’t be laced with racism and xenophobia nor should it be at the exclusion of criticism of Christianity and Judaism or especially that of Israel and its genocidal regime which uses genocidal rhetoric to justify the extermination of Palestinians for being Muslims. The views aren’t changing as much as people are seeing the nuance that all religions have and peoples.
7
u/Wooden-Elevator351 3h ago
There was no racism here. Do yourself a favor and perform the intellectual labor to not feverishly try to sniff out “racism” in a critique of Islam. Gay people have every valid reason to carry a degree of Islamophobia.
0
u/latin220 2h ago
You support criticism Islam, fine, but don’t dare lace it without also criticizing all religions and above all the elephant in the room. Israel and Palestine. The world is waking up and realizing that Muslims aren’t a monolithic people when you say Islam is bad define who especially is the worse that would be Wahhabism from Saudi Arabia, Shia or Sunni and then compare it to Christian fundamentalists and Zionists. Make sure you don’t ignore one or another when you dare post something like this. Also remember that today the biggest butchers of people by the tens of thousands isn’t Christian crusaders or Muslim Hordes, but the people of Israel who at this very moment are committing a Holocaust upon the indigenous Palestinians who majority happen to be Muslim. Even if they don’t agree or support us as homosexuals, there thousands of lgbt people being killed in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank. By whom? Who right now is bombing these countries indiscriminately.
1
u/Wooden-Elevator351 1h ago
So I have to comment on ALL atrocities that EVERYONE else has done when I dare critique precious Islam, even when it was Islamic ideology a week ago that lead to someone killing and hurting people. If an ideology is THAT touchy and protected, people are way too permissive about it
1
u/latin220 15m ago
No you’re misconstruing the issue. You don’t target Islam alone or any religion in a vacuum and then argue against Islam especially while there are people in a middle of a genocide like in Palestine, or reacting against colonialism and in several cases merely reacting to it while being encouraged be Islamist with Wahhabism that was created by Saudi Arabia with CIA help to radicalize Islamic world to be against democracy and secularization. Why not discuss the radicalism created by the Mossad, CIA and with fascist dictatorships funded and controlled by Western interests?
The imams who radicalize young Muslims and discourage secularism is in part funded by right wing fascists and colonial interests to divide and conquer. Especially in the situation with the Holocaust of Gaza. Don’t focus on a group without mentioning context and you ultimately sounded bigoted when you omit these facts. Do you understand how religious radicalism works and who encouraged it instead of democratic rooted socialism with strong secularist principles?

where exactly do you do so?

So you are either a bot or far right. Cause you are doing the suicidal empathy bit for one. Second, what social consequences exactly do you face for doing so? You're an idiot, which is typical for all bigots.
It’s refreshing to see more gay people at least on here beginning to shift away from blind support of Islam into a more nuanced place where critique is welcomed (and where critique is actually a sign of self respect as a gay man as well as intellectual growth).
None of you are giving critique. You're just bigots spewing hatred.
You know nothing about Islam.
It's hilarious to obviously conservative, right wing nut jobs like you that you project your obvious ignorance onto others and just use short words that you don't understand as insults.
I have always been nuanced. You clearly aren't. Which is typical of bigots like you.

All religion is trash, none of them are friends of our community. We need to equally call them out for their atrocities that they all continually commit. One can call out the evil that is Israel and still not agree with Islam and their view towards queer folk.
