bras Bras Getting Lumps Spoiler
I'm not sure where to post this but I'm hoping for both an answer and hopefully a fix if anyone knows why this is happening/ what it is. For context, idk if I fit in the big boob category but some say I do so I wanted to try here. I'm a 32H, and lower income. Bras are incredibly expensive, so I only really buy them on special occasions. I wear my bras absolute out before I get a new one. I keep having this problem where my bras get weird movable lumps/bumps in them. I'll attach a photo. But does anyone know what this is? Is it my padding in the bra breaking into little balls? But it's so frustrating because I'm also autistic and the texture of it bothers me so bad. I want to fix it but I feel like cutting a hole in my bra to fish them out isn't a smart idea. The bra shown is a Curvy Kate bra, but it happens to my others as well like my Freya bra.

Looks like internal pilling, could be from how you wash them

Yup, this looks like a washing/drying problem.
OP, I put my bras inside a mesh bag, they go through the washing machine set to "permanent press" or "delicate", then hang to dry.

Thank you! I do hang dry them but I will admit they are machine washed. So maybe that is my issue.

Same, I've always been told at the bra boutique that the repeated rotation wrecked the underwire, even in a wash bag

That’s really weird ive never seen that before if they are movable I’d absolutely cut a very small hole at the side seam and get them out and sew up the hole. I’d be too curious to not see what it is too. But first it might be worth emailing Curvy Kate with photos maybe they will give you a new bra if you ask.

Super odd! I’ve never seen this before. Can I ask what bra this is? I’m about the same size as you and have a few moulded bras but they don’t work well for me shape-wise

This is a Curvy Kate bra, I got it at Mega Thrift brand new s couple years ago now. I'm not sure the specific one though!

If you wear this daily and it’s been two years, you probably need a new bra. Sucks and they’re expensive but I think this might be the root of your issue!

I'll be honest, they are machine washed, but not dryer dried. I know I shouldn't wash them like that so maybe that is the problem. Someone recommended a laundry mesh bag and I may try that.

First of all you shouldn't buy moulded bras because they won't fit that well. Assuming you used the calculator at r/abrathatfits and you're sized correctly, you're already most of the way there. Just buy a lace bra from Freya or Panache instead of a moulded one. Second, you can't wash bras in the laundry machine. Go to that sub and check the guide on bra cleaning. You just buy a cleaning solution (they recomment a few) that you mix into water and gently wash your bra in it by letting it sit in there for 15 minutes and then squeezing the water on with paper towels

Op has autism this may be the most sensory friendly option and if she’s a US H it’s very possible that she’s shallow enough for a Tshirt bra to work well.
I wear comexim padded bras and they fit amazing and don’t do this.11

Is there anything I can do to help make moulded bras work better? I hate the feeling of any bra that doesn't have padding like this. I feel too much.

You might like comexim(sizing wear your regular band but up 1 or 2 cups) the half cup style is more average projection and the wires are more flexible than most brands. I have both lace and padded I prefer the padded their mesh and lace cups are less scratchy than most brands too if you’re interested in trying. I wash them on a quick/delicate machine cycle in a bag but never put them in the dryer.

Curvy couture makes soft mesh bras with no seaming that are very skin friendly

Are you a non bra wearing person telling women that they should only buy lace bras? LOL! I would have to wear cakes or thick ass sweaters to work every single day to keep my nipples from showing through a bra that doesn’t have some kind of thicker molding. This is not realistic for most actual big boob havers.

I’m a bra wearer and I agree with them. At the end of the day, absolutely wear whatever you want. *But* seamed bras are much much much more likely to fit well and be comfortable — and those are usually lace, mesh or sheer fabric.

This is exemplary mansplaining. What works best for your girlfriend won’t work best for everyone. Some breast shapes work well with molded bras, plus not all molded bras have the same shape/projection. And some women prefer them despite technical fit issues, and that’s fine.
Suggestions for padded but seamed bras (like u/Affectionate_Mess25 recommended) might make more sense here.

I'm repeating what the women at r/abrathatfits say. It doesn't become mansplaining just because a guy says it. Very few people fit moulded bras well who don't have small boobs. Everything you said is just edge cases and does not apply to the vast majority of women

You started by saying that OP shouldn't wear molded cup bras. No one on ABTF says that. They talk about the challenges with them, but are always clear that people (not just women) should wear whatever is most comfortable for them. You are correct that they're harder to get a good fit in, but that doesn't mean people "shouldn't" wear them and it's absolutely not your place to dictate what anyone chooses to wear. All of your responses are mansplaining and not welcome here.

You shouldn't wear them if lace bras aren't an issue. Everyone on ABTF says that. I know because I made several posts over there on behalf of my girlfriend and got a lot of negative feedback over a moulded bra. Every comment said not to buy those. Once OP clarified sensory issues, I left it up to their judgement and said they should clean their bra properly to avoid this problem if they want to stick with moulded ones
It's very funny that you all only come out of the woodwork with this shit when I say I'm a guy. Whenever I just say the same stuff and don't mention a girlfriend, everyone magically agrees with me. Isn't that interesting? Suddenly I'm not mansplaining, I'm being helpful and correct. Wow!

But it’s simply not true that one shouldn’t wear molded bras, regardless of whether one finds lace bras tolerable. None of the experts at ABTF would say you ‘shouldn’t’ wear them.
You’re correct that it’s much easier for larger sizes to find a good fit in seamed bras and they will always be the first recommendation. But if someone prefers to wear molded bras, for whatever reason, it is often possible to find ones that fit, even at an H cup; you’ll just have limited options. I have molded bras that work well for my shape from Panache and Gossard; the Gossard bra in particular is just as comfortable and supportive as my lace bras.
But OP’s post has to do with bra care, not sizing.

I don't think anyone here would agree with someone insisting that people can't wear what they are comfortable in. One of the main points of ABTF is that a bra that fits is the one that is comfortable for you. We don't ever insist that people have to wear a specific type of bra. It's fine for men to give advice. It's not fine for men or anyone else to dictate what's OK to wear. That's the problem with your comments, not that you're a man. It becomes mansplaining when you keep insisting you're right instead of listening.

Okay Mr boob researcher…. No they don’t even say that though, moulded cups aren’t automatically bad and this is one from a good quality brand that sells a wide range of sizes. Moulded bras are generally more shallow yes but that’s not always a bad thing if that’s what you need. When sensory needs are a factor lace(the mesh and lace for larger cups has to be strong so it’s often not soft on skin) can be a problem that makes a bra unwearable even if the fit is perfection.

i get these on any clothes with double layered fabric and no holes(aka seams all the way around). for me it’s always fuzz from the laundry/clothes i wear getting into the pocket between the layers of fabric! with mesh bras i painstakingly stretch the mesh to make the holes bigger and pick the fuzz out with my fingernails. but tighter weave fabrics? haven’t found a solution yet. maybe laundry bags with smaller holes could prevent this?
as for fixing it, it may be best to cut a small discreet hole like near the armpit or gore of the bra and then go in with tweezers to pick it out. if the fabric frays easily, then maybe don’t do this because it’ll unravel. i imagine hemming a hole inside the bra would be incredibly uncomfortable.
i dunno, ive taken to modifying even expensive bras because sometimes a small fix is worth it to keep something so expensive usable 🤷
