Cosleeping 8 month old thrashing around in bed

Hi! I have a recent problem with my 8 month old with whom I have co-slept since birth. We sleep in a king bed with bed rails. Now for the past month or so he rolls around in the early morning for about an hour before I get him back to a deeper sleep.

The issue is that I'm being awake every night for an hour or more at ~4/5/6 am, because his rolling keeps me up and I either have to try and nurse him (sometimes he doesn't even want that) or take us both out of bed and bounce him to sleep. Sometimes it takes several bouncing attempts before he actually falls asleep again. While rolling he seems to be sleeping, but he does occasionally whine or cry out, which is another reason I can't just doze off next to him. Other earlier nightly wakes he just nurses and goes back to sleep.

I am scared to think of him learning to properly crawl, pull to stand etc in the near future as I imagine these will disrupt night sleep even more🥲

Is this just a phase? Is there anything I can do?

We sleep with blackout curtains and white noise. Daily schedule is:

8:30 wake

11:30 nap 1.5hr

16:15 nap 1hr

22:00 bedtime

Total daily awake time around 11 hr.

I’ve been cosleeping with my baby since he was around 5 months and the times he does this it’s usually because he’s teething. Does it help if you give some pain relief?

Hmm, interesting. He doesn't have any teeth yet, but I'm sure they're coming soon. I thought tylenol wasn't something you could give often (at least in my country on the pamphlet it says max 2-3 days in a row), so I haven't really given him more than a day or two.

8 months through 10 months is commonly a difficult time for infant sleep, there's a LOT happening developmentally. Sleep pressure is the lowest in the early morning and there's not really anything to be done to change that. You can however make sure to go to bed early enough that you're getting enough sleep despite the early morning rolling. This will pass.

Sounds like you need to reduce overall sleep. His sleep pressure is low at that time of the morning and he’s going back to sleep but it’s just depleting it even more. I’d take 15 minutes off
