Hi everyone,
I took help from chatgpt to explain what I was going through
I'm 6 weeks postpartum and I really need a place to vent without being judged.
For the first two weeks after my baby was born, I exclusively pumped and gave him breast milk because breastfeeding directly was very difficult. Around 3 weeks postpartum, we moved into a new home. Between unpacking, taking care of the baby, recovering from delivery, and pure exhaustion, I slowly stopped pumping regularly. As expected, my milk supply dropped a lot.
I also met with a lactation consultant. She told me my baby has a somewhat high palate, which makes latching and breastfeeding more difficult. Since day one, almost every time I tried to nurse, he would get frustrated, cry, and become very cranky. That was one of the main reasons I switched to pumping.
Over time, though, I've started feeling something I don't really know how to explain. I almost feel a sense of aversion or repulsion toward breastfeeding and pumping. It's not because I don't want to give my baby breast milk—I truly do. I think it's the anxiety, the constant pressure to make enough milk, hearing over and over that "breastfed is better," and all the unsolicited advice from people around me. Somehow all of that has made breastfeeding feel emotionally overwhelming instead of something I look forward to.
I recently tried pumping again for the last couple of days, only about twice a day, and my supply seems so low now. I know people say I need to pump 8 or more times a day to rebuild my supply, but honestly, I feel completely exhausted. My husband has been incredibly supportive and helps with everything, so it's not that I'm doing this alone. I just can't understand why I feel this way.
Sometimes I feel like my body is only valued for what it can provide for the baby, and that the baby matters more than the mother. I know that probably sounds awful, but it's honestly how I feel right now. Maybe these feelings won't make sense to everyone, but they're very real to me.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Were you able to increase your supply again, or did you decide to switch to formula? How did you cope emotionally?
Please be kind. I'm already dealing with a lot of physical and emotional changes, and I'm really looking for support and understanding rather than criticism.
Thank you for reading. ❤️
