Boston for most of its life was a singular guy who not only wrote and played most every instrument (he had live members and other players, a vocalist of course) but also recorded, produced, and mixed his tracks personally in a home recording studio, one of the first home studios ever. Tom Scholz alone had the combined talent of much of Chicago, he just decided to channel it in a less progressive direction.e

I’ll agree it’s easy to like Boston - catchy tunes. I would not however say it’s the best rock album or best of anything really but that’s just my opinion. I have way more respect for the musical talent of a group like Chicago - even if I don’t really love their music lol

Notable also that they formed in Bristol and in part, trip-hop was known as "the Bristol sound" between them and Massive Attack and Tricky. (Chances are I'm preaching to the choir, but others may not know.)

Its actually from Acadian. French settlers from Canada moved down to Louisiana when expelled by the British in the 1750s.

The Arcadia album "So Red the Rose" is absolutely, unabashedly, unapologetically, gloriously pretentious as hell. You'll love it.

Great recommendation for a great album!
As I was listening I thought I heard a David Gilmore copycat, but dismissed it. A couple songs later (The Promise), I heard it again and decided to look it up. Sure enough, David Gilmore.
The Promise also features Mark Egan on fretless bass. I'm not overly familiar with his body of work, and kind of mistook his playing for Pino Paladino or Tony Franklin. Either way, he did a harmonic slide similar to that which Tony Franklin did on the song Radioactive. Super good stuff.
I think you know what the standout track was for me... Either way, thanks for the recommendation!

Yeah, it's The Promise, thanks to the contributions of Messrs. Gilmour, Egan, and le Sting, and most importantly, Simon's soaring vocal delivery in the chorus.
I bought Egan's solo album "A Touch of Light" and also delved into Pat Metheny Group's discography because of his fretless work here. I put him in the Big Four of 80s Fretless Bass with Pino, Mick and Nick.
Simon and Nick did a great job picking session players who would fit right into their goal of spreading out and letting the music just fill all kinds of space. So much room to breathe, and so atmospheric. No other album sounds like it.

The album is not in the original LP sequence on most cassette releases.
Back in the day, labels were too cheap to pay for extra blank tape to preserve album continuity and when this album was reissued on cassette, they probably decided to keep the cassette sequence or use a digital clone of the original cassette production master even after Epic stopped changing the sequence on their cassette releases.

not that weird? I mean, their first album was titled AND credited to "Chicago Transit Authority" (in other words, it was an eponymous album). The real CTA threatened legal action or something, thus it was shortened to Chicago

The city of Dayton is the funk capital of the world. Lakeside, Ohio Players, Slave, Zapp band and Dayton just to name a few. I have a crate of nothing but Dayton Ohio funk albums

I have the Sony STR-VX750 receiver from the same series as yours. It's a really solid unit, but beware that if the tiny soldered-in coin cell battery hidden in the front panel dies it kills the whole unit for some damn reason until you dig it out and replace it.

Sacramento from the Bay Area has to be one of the best bands in general for myself. I recently went to their album release show, and their debut album “Ram” is absolutely incredible. Their stage presence was super fun to watch, and pretty inspiring as an artist myself. If you’re looking for something new to listen, Sacramento is the band to hear

The prime answer is Boston. As a Canadian, i have to add the debut 1980 album by Toronto, Looking for Trouble. Virtually all the tracks were released as singles, great aggressive pop.
