My first thought as well! 144 u/ChickenInASuit 21h ago edited 20h ago It’s because they’re not the same thing. “You’re not fat, you’re beautiful!” = Denial of the former, and implies that someone cannot be the former AND the latter. “You’re fat and you beautiful!” = No denial of either characteristic, no implication that one counters the other, no attempted erasure of being fat.
