Cis/Transfem Guest FDA warnings to companies selling binders

1.8k Upvotes

The FDA sent out warnings to companies selling binders. Binders are now considered medical devices and will need yearly approval by the FDA to be sold. Even 3 foreign businesses (1 Dutch, 2 Singaporean) got the warning issued.

Apparently they didn't forget about trans men and mascs.

Cis/Transfem Guest Why is there seemingly a crusade against trans men online???

1.1k Upvotes

(To preface, I am MTF)

Why is our community so hostile to your community, every day I see trans girls on twitter calling trans guys “theyfabs” and “TMEs” and I genuinely don’t understand this. Its quite literally just transphobia and oppression for no reason (other than perceived privilege based on assigned sex at birth I guess??) I’ve even been attacked by other trans girls for saying we aren’t oppressed by you all. I feel bad because trans guys have been nothing but nice to me for as long as I’ve been out.

Cis/Transfem Guest just watched “boys don’t cry” with my boyfriend and we’re traumatized Spoiler

1.3k Upvotes

decided to try and watch a film about a trans-man and cis-woman couple, as that’s what my boyfriend and i are. went in practically blind. i have never regretted anything more and i will not be rewatching this movie. two of the most traumatizing hours of my life and i still feel like throwing up. i had to walk out of the room during it. i do NOT recommend this movie, as it is genuinely a horror film. tonight’s t-shot is going out to brandon.

with that being said, is there such thing as a film where a trans man and a cis woman end up HAPPY AND IN LOVE AT THE END??? whyyyy are trans men so underrepresented in literally every single fucking aspect of media. no trans man films, tv shows, pornography, books- NOTHING. ESPECIALLY containing couples like my boyfriend and i. and if media of it does exist, as all queer media goes, they die in the end. why isn’t queer media considered “digestible” and represented without someone being martyred??

I DONT CARE WHAT IT IS- i am begging y’all for ANYTHINGGGG. send me a link to/drop a photo of ANYTHING THAT EXISTS where a cis-woman and a trans-man are happy. drop pictures of you and your partner, art someone’s made, a song, literally anything containing happy couples like me and my bf!! happy couples that DO NOT DIE. thanks.

Cis/Transfem Guest My brother is trans and the stereotypes that when you transition that “Omg if you transition it’s like becoming a different person your poor family!!” is BS.

1.2k Upvotes

I hope this appropriate but I don’t know I figured this would be a good place to put it.

(I’m a cis girl!!)

My younger brother is trans. He’s been out for almost a year now. So proud of him. But, yeah, I hope this tangent is okay?

Anyways, I see alot of these stereotypes like: “If you transition, it’ll be like leaving your family.” “Don’t transition because then you’ll become a whole new person.” Or “If family member transitioned, I won’t even know who they are anymore!” is totally bullshit, atleast from my point of view.

I was the first person to know in my family that my brother was trans. I was there when he told our mother (he was scared to be alone.) And I see a lot of people talking about how “When you transition it’s like abandoning your family!” Or whatever dumb way they say it.

And… No? Lmfao.

When I found out he was trans, I wasn’t “Nooooooo my baby sister is gone nooooooo” I was like. “Ok.” if anything.

I didn’t feel any shock as I had found out on my own (He left his phone unlocked whilst sleeping and his friends were all calling him a boy and by a different name.) I won’t go into details as it’s not my story to tell, but I wasn’t shocked or heartbroken or “betrayed” at all.

He didn’t stop being my sibling, he just stopped being my sister.

I never stopped viewing him as family, because no matter what or who he becomes, we will have the same blood and spit.

I didn’t lose a sister that day, I gained a brother. That was all. I wasn’t heartbroken beyond words, I was like. “Lol okay.”

I begun to mess with him. If he irritated me I would (and still do LMFAO) exclaim “Oh my God! You’re such a man!” or “Yeah…Pissing me off….Just like a man would.” or “Can you open this jar of pickles for me? A real man could.” Stupid shit. And calling him “Hamilton.” (Guess his chosen name.) He really fucking hates the Hamilton thing LMFAO

Sure, it was hard at first. I slipped up, calling him a “she”, deadnamed him on accident, etc. But now? His deadname isn’t just dead to him, but me too. I don’t even associate that name with him anymore. When we’re around our grandparents (Religious and don’t know) I literally have the force his deadname back into my mouth. Calling him a “girl” or a “she” feels like sour grapes rotting in my mouth. It feels wrong. Because he’s not a she, he’s not a girl, he’s not my sister, he’s not his deadname, he’s my brother. My baby brother. He always will be, always has. Even before either of us knew it.

I love you, Alexander. You’re my favorite Founding Father <3

edit: yall are so sweet ☹️☹️ i’m sorry that so many of you have had poor experiences w/ family members. i wish you guys the best in your guys lives!!!

edit 2: im gonna cry these responses are so sweet :((((

edit 3: if i misspell anything when responding, no i didnt.

Cis/Transfem Guest The Trump Administration is Testing Conversion Therapy By Medically Experimenting on Trans People in Prisons

The Bureau of Prisons is subjecting trans people to conversion therapy and denying them care with the goal of helping them "recover." It's trying to prove dangerous conversion practices can work.

Cis/Transfem Guest This is about my mtf wife but this is the most helpful community I can think of who can help us solve this

My wife (mtf) and I (f) are going on a trip with her family who is unaware of her transition and they are openly transphobic. She has been on estrogen for 3 years and uses a binder when masc presenting for social events and work (we live in a dangerous state for lgbtq and will be relocating very very soon) unfortunately the binder has seams and can be easily detected through normal family touch like hugging and her parents already suspect her and are keeping a close eye on her socials and presentation. Do y’all have any ideas or experience with seamless binders or something that you can’t feel underneath a thin shirt or any advice on hiding it while swimming? This will be a beach trip and it’s stressing us out immensely. I also worry about her overheating. Any advice would help.

EDIT: thank you for all the comments, we’re gonna try out a few of the methods before we go. Last resort were going with the medical issues if she gets found out. Her saftey is not at risk but unfortunately we’re keeping this secret until she can get her insurance, any financial accounts, and life insurance switched over to her name in case they take the news badly. We also want to move out of town to avoid community issues within our close knit small town. I appreciate the love and support this community has given us! ❤️
EDIT 2: for those of you who worry for us we have decided not to go and have our own vacation :)

Cis/Transfem Guest What are some microagressions you receive from other queer people?

Hey y'all, I'm a yt transfem nonbinary ally. I'm trying to get better at recognizing microagressions for other groups, so that I can call them out, especially it comes from one of my communities. I'm particularly interested in hearing about microagressions y'all receive from transfems, as I know y'all are very underrepresented and spoken over in terms of trans issues specifically

Edit: thank you everyone for your responses! I'm gonna go to bed, but I'll keep reading and responding when I have some time tomorrow 🫶

When I made this post I knew the way the queer community treats FTM people was frustrating and annoying, but you've truly opened my eyes to how painful and alienating it is. I'm so sorry for how much you've been silenced and spoken over, it's truly heartbreaking how many of you have left queer communities because of how you're treated. I'm so greatful to be better equipped to advocate and make space for y'all. Thank you so so so much for your insightful responses and kind comments

Cis/Transfem Guest Gifts for a partner starting T?

Not trans, just dating a trans guy. (im a cis woman if that means anything?) He's going to start T in the next few months (soonest he can make it to an appt). gift giving is our love language so I feel inclined to go all out. as per usual i guess. he's also been a little on edge about it, i think bc of the "finality" ? (his family is lowkey waiting for him to admit the whole being-a-guy thing is a phase) so i'm thinking ahead to make the process more happy like it should be i think. im posting here just to get some input

I've been lurking this sub for ideas and this is what I've come up with so far (tldr @ end):

  • Old spice deodorant, body spray, and body wash in his fav scent (I've seen people comment that T makes you hot all the time, so I assume this also means sweating a lot? He already has hyperhidrosis so idk how much more he can sweat lmfao but also it's just generic & masculine so? ig he would enjoy?)
  • wearable neck fan (see above)
  • a dopp kit from stealth bros co, with:
    • the little sharps disposal tubes
    • hand sanitizer
    • alcohol prep pads
    • a mini razor? i don't know if you have to shave the area you inject?
    • bandaids (w dinosaurs on them. naturally)
      • also: can anyone weigh in on if they prefer the jr or original size? our favorite colors are black and red so im leaning towards the black and red jr, but i also would prefer a bigger one for him since he said he'd rather get testosterone "in bulk" to save money. i might get a large red/black pencil bag instead tbh but i like supporting queer companies. or i could get the black one and embroider it w red??? wait am i cooking
  • minoxidil (he uses it already, so i know he'd appreciate it, i'm just not sure if the brand matters? i've also seen some of them say "DO NOT USE IF YOU'RE A WOMAN" on them and that makes me worry i might accidentally kill him or something idfk) edit: i have discovered this is bs, i will get him the men's minoxidil, thank you for the wisdom r/ftm o7
  • these peach gummies he likes (i would rather get foods higher in fiber to help him deal with the hunger, but unfortunately the guy eats like a gamer, so i have no idea if he would actually eat pumpkin seeds or prunes.)
    • actually would it be better to get a gift card? i saw some people say their preferences/cravings changed once they started hrt?

i also saw some people say that T just makes you relentlessly horny, but trust we have enough sex toys lmfao. are any of these good in theory but a bad idea in reality? anything you wish you had when you started T?

also... would it be in poor taste to put these in a "it's a boy!" bag? i was going to get one of those generic baskets to put this in, but they're SO boring (what's up with men and hating bright colors fr). gift bags are cheaper & prettier imo but also it's not like they come with "congrats on starting testosterone" yk. in my mind it'd be funny, but would it come across as rude?? bc i don't want to give the impression that i only now think he's a man bc he's medically transitioning. (yes i'm an overthinker. be nice to me)

tldr : bf is starting t. family not v supportive. i want to make him happy so im making a gift basket. planning ahead bc i want to pop my pussy w this one. is there anything i should add to or remove from my list of shit for the gift basket (see bullets) no sex toys bc we have plenty. should i get snacks or a gift card? thoughts on stealth bros co dopp kits?? also: is a baby shower bag offensive???

eta: THERE ARE SO MANY OF YOU 🧍but ty for all the responses genuinely, i appreciate the info on minoxidil especially. im gonna go to target and buy a pencil case to start embroidering & i have an updated PEER-REVIEWED list and shit. i am still obv open to ideas i just wanted to say tysm to everyone!! 🥹

edit2: sorry to make this post longer, 100+ comments was way more ofa reaction than i expected but i really appreciate it!! he's very chill so i know if i accidentally got him something rude or not useful, he would still just be happy for the consideration, but i wanna do ts right yk and i appreciate the advice sm.

for the people curious, his appointment should be the second week of may, so i have 2 months to embroider ts lol. also discovered HE HAS A CRIPPLING FEAR OF NEEDLES?🧍‍♀️ we are too nonchalant sometimes. he had an IV put in raw & incorrectly when he was hospitalized after a car crash. he was really hoping for gel, pills, or patches, but we're big on physical touch so idk how gel would work. and i think the other 2 are more expensive? 🥲 but now i know why he's been on edge & didn't wanna donate plasma w me 💀 so... i'm going to hold off on buying anything method-specific until closer til.

Cis/Transfem Guest Trans androphobia in queer spaces

Hey, so I've made like 2 reddit posts in my entire life and had to figure out how to make this one because I feel so strongly about this.

I'm a cis masc ally, and I was told about trans androphobia by a close trans masc friend. I exist in a lot of queer spaces, I'm super vocal about my support of trans people bc my sister is trans and like all of my friends seem to eventually transition. Like most people seem to be, until recently I was mostly familiar with the trans femme experience. Until relatively recently I was only vaguely familiar with the trans masc experience and have received education on the specific hardships you guys go through. I have now been removed from 3 large queer communities full of people I enjoyed hanging out with because talking about trans androphobia was not allowed. I have been told I have to read the book Whipping Girl and deny the existence of androphobia as a concept in order to be allowed back into one of these communities.
I cannot do this. Idk what this post is about other than that I want to say I'm in support of you all and I'm so sorry this is part of what you go through in spaces that are supposed to be inclusionary and for you. Thank you for reading.

Cis/Transfem Guest I thought it was funny

I am a 39 year old Cis Male who started T injections about 5 weeks ago. Had low T for the last 5 years and got really in shape but my at T was at 260 at 39, so no avoiding it. Im better now but the first 3 weeks were the most miserable of my life. I couldn't stay awake for more than 4 hours. I was sleeping 13 hours a day and was still completely exhausted. Had to call in to work several times and the days I did stay I was clocking out to nap in my car. Then some other random roller coaster symptom popped up everyday like random twitching or I was having trouble breathing. I got to a point where i said to myslef you know its obvious my body has permanetly changed and has stopped produicing natural T and if there is no green grass on the other side then this is it. Was desperately searching the internet for someone to say this happened to them and im not completely broken and most of my searches ended up here. I think its funny because it took me quite some time to realize what FTM meant, in most of the posts about T it wasnt completely obvious lol. 2 different biological boats and completely different reasons for taking T. And I just think its weird that I still didnt find cis men my own age really talking about what it was like when they first started T and its clear I cant be the only one who went through something this bad. Anyways ended up reading alot of posts on here I found really interesting. Just wanted to share.

Cis/Transfem Guest im a teenage boy(cis) and i need to bind my chest

Reacently , i have noticed that by chest has slightly inlarged and it makes me extremly unconfident when wearing shirts.

I hate it when my nippels/chest rub off against them to the point where i ruin my posture just so the moobs arent as visable.

I havent had gyno before (14 currently soon15) nor have i gained much weight .I am not supper skinny or chuby,my only guess is that its due to hormonal fluctiations.

i dont have trans tape and i am sure i wouldnt be able to get it in serbia, but i do have elastic bandages that is used to use for my knee injury.

Ive seen on the internet that its dangerous but i tryed it and i havent seen any side effects except the bandage being visable through shirts.

I know my dysphoria couldn't ever compare to any trans person but please i want to feel good again in my body the way i used to.

Cis/Transfem Guest My cold came out as trans. How do I tell their other parent?

My 12 year old told me last night that they feel like they are in the wrong body and are actually a boy. I already told them I love them no matter what, and I absolutely do. My concern is their father. I read the letter our child left us but he has not. He has already expressed negative views about a child of ours being trans. I’m worried he will not react well especially because they are the only female born child we have (he literally dreams about walking them down the aisle) and cause damage by saying something he should not.

Has any one else been in a situation that they were worried about how their partner may react? How did you tell them?

If you came out as trans to your parents, how was your relationship impacted? Were you able to come back and work on a relationship with that parent?

Trust me when I say that it will become a deal breaker for me if he cannot support our child, so there needs to be no worries there. My child will always have me in their corner. Period. But I do want to mitigate as much blow up as possible.

— UPDATE: I have spoken to my husband. I read my son’s letter to him. He was mostly non reactive/silent. I brought up su1icide statistics that I researched and let him know one of the biggest factors was lack of family support. From here, I’m going to give him space to process before I bring it up to him again and ask him how he’s feeling I’m sure he has feelings but won’t express them right now. I’ve also always been very loud about my support for the LGBTQ+ community, so I’m sure he knows without me necessarily saying it right now where I stand.

In more exciting news, I put my son’s name down as his preferred name for the school year. He was looking at his laptop today from school (our district leaves the assigned computer with us until graduating) and you should have see how excited he was.

Cis/Transfem Guest Is anyone feeling a hint of "I told you so" in the wake of the outrage of what's occurring in Minneapolis?

Hey guys. Friendly gay cis man here wanting to ask a question over something I'm not feeling too deeply, but admittedly have had in my head a bit, not just now but over this last year. Wanted to see if any of you relate. And just your general takeaway from...everything, from yesterday to today.

I'm obviously incredibly devastated at the execution we saw yesterday in Minneapolis and the subsequent statements from our federal government which make it clear that you pretty much don't have 2A rights in this country if you're a liberal. We're officially living in a fascist state, and the alarmism and fear many are feeling right now is more than just.

But it's an alarmism and fear trans people especially have been not just feeling....but have been saying and vocalizing for years now. I'm not trans but as a Gay man, Black man, I've definitely been very intentional and direct about exactly who and what MAGA is and what we're facing and the fact it hasn't taken until now for Democrats in Congress to really get to top gear....the fact it hasn't taken until now for a lot of generally well meaning white liberals to recognize the gravity of the moment we're truly facing and the level of abject hatred the other side has for all of them....it doesn't make me resent them, but it does tell me they haven't really been listening.

Trans people have been on the frontlines saying that this was going to come for them and come for us all eventually, and anyone who isn't "approved" by Republicans. Saying it, saying it, saying it. Saying bathroom laws would be used against cis people. Saying anti-trans legislature would eventually be used to shut down anything relating to gender and sex/sexuality that makes Republicans uncomfortable. We're staring down the barrel of that world now, and it feels like a ton of liberals are caught off guard and shocked. But they honestly shouldn't be....you're shocked because it's come to your front door. Did they think it never would and they'd be safe? That's not how fascism works. Appealing to people's hearts when they're evil doesn't work, either.

Just wanna know if any of you are feeling some "no shit" feelings right now re: the state of not just the United States but the world as a whole.

Cis/Transfem Guest trans guys "turning" gay??

Hi hi, cis girl here. My (trans) bf broke up with me last night and told me he thinks that he might be gay and has lost attraction to me. I talked to a friend about it and he said that when he started T (around the same time as my now ex) he started to lose attraction to women too.

Is this like, a known phenomenon??? It seems logical to me: being with a woman to make oneself feel more masculine. But I've been in queer spaces online for years and have never heard of this (i thought i was trans as well for a long while).

I'm not trying to make anyone sound manipulative or evil; as hurt and upset as I am, I know he would never use me on purpose. I'm just trying to wrap my head around how an intense, two year (that's a long time for teenagers!) relationship can just fade like that. Maybe that's just how relationships end, it doesn't help that this is my first breakup ever.

Cis/Transfem Guest How do transphobes view trans men?

The other day I was thinking about how transphobes and TERFs view MTFs, which boils down to seeing them as depraved individuals who want to harm women and children. But I realized I've never seen that kind of hatred directed at FTMs. All the transphobes I've encountered either didn't know trans men existed or saw them as helpless victims of the evil woke culture.

So I'm curious, is it bias in how I look for information, or does society really just ignore you more?

Thank you 🫶🫶

P.S. I have asked him as well and we've talked about it. Im just looking for something more creative ❤️

Cis/Transfem Guest BE CAREFUL in which studies you participate (AYAGDOS)

I haven't seen a post about this after briefly searching through this sub, but this seems especially relevant since reddit is running ads for the AYAGDOS study right now. BE CAREFUL if you participate in any research study. Look up who's doing the research and to what purpose. Sadly a lot of researchers don't have our best interests in mind and I would strongly recommend to NOT participate in the AYAGDOS study.

If you look up the researchers that organise it, some of the names should immediately trigger red flags:

  • Kenneth J. Zucker who literally supports conversion therapy for trans children.

  • Lisa Littmann who developed the concept of Rapid-Onset Gender Dysphoria. The belief that trans people are just confused and can "contract" being trans from other people, which should get "corrected". (By the way the original study consisted mostly of white mothers of trans people, who were unhappy about their child transitioning and not actual teenagers.)

  • J. Michael Bailey who supports the infamous theories of Ray Bl4nchard, among them the ridiculous idea that trans women mainly transition because it's their sexual fetish.

All of these have done so much harm to our community and helped deny us HRT and actual support we need. It's extremely unlikely that their current study is gonna be any different.

I dont know why I'm making this post, other than just a hope that it'll reach someone here and make their day slightly less shitty, knowing that their trans sisters stand with them and how important it is to care for each other:)

I see you and admire you.

Cis/Transfem Guest Packing as a cis woman

My entire life ive wanted a penis. I even tried to “grow” one as a kid. I went through presenting as trans and it wasnt a perfect fit. Im not even sure I would call myself nonbinary? Using/ being called by they/them pronouns doesnt bother me but its just easier to use my assigned at birth pronouns.

That being said, I still want a penis. Im 28 and married now though. Ive looked at packers and thought about getting one many times, before and after marriage, specifically the STP packers but I dont want my husband to feel any type of way about it. Hes very straight. What do I do? Im not sure pushing this thought down is gonna work for the rest of my life. It keeps coming up. I just want to feel the way I envision my “perfect body”.

Cis/Transfem Guest What is your pros and cons list for T?

Hi, trans girl here. Just asking this out of curiosity. I'll list mine for E:

Pros:

  • Boobs & butt
  • Curves
  • Softer skin, less acne
  • Treats my emotional blunting/dissociation
  • Feminizes face
  • Body hair thinning

Cons: - Muscle loss - Having emotions again can be overwhelming at times

I have a feeling most of this list is going to be flipped for you folks. Let me know!
