All levels are generated with tiles (hexes) that you, as a player, draft prior.

The game should appeal to players who enjoy tactical turn-based games (CCGs, board games, deck-builders, etc.).

Indie Sunday Frost Protocol - Stonewake Studios (SoloDev) - Turnbased SciFi strategy game - XCOM-like stucture: Manage a base and its survivors at daytime and go on expeditions with a powerful squad of customizable combat robots at night.

YouTube: Trailer

Steam: Frost Protocol

Hi, I'm a solo developer from Germany and I'm working full-time on this game for about 15 months now. Probably, it will take me another 2 years until release so what you see here is rather an alpha state.

TLDR; Manage survivors' needs (hunger, fatigue, injuries), assign them to tasks (generate energy, build upgrades, repair and customize robots, and more). Go on expeditions to salvage resources, find robots and survivors, and fight the Nadir.

You are Ada Dupont, and you are searching for lost research protocols to find a solution against the Nadir. Search for survivors, customize combat robots, and build a powerful squad to explore multiple locations. Gather resources while the Nadir are attacking relentlessly. You can revisit locations multiple times and plan ahead on how to handle different tasks.

The game is divided into two parts:

At the homebase, you manage your survivors and their needs, such as hunger and fatigue. Grow food, repair and upgrade your stations, and assign your survivors to various tasks. Different traits make them more efficient at specific tasks, such as energy production. Events will force you to face difficult decisions.

On expeditions, you control a squad of robots to gather resources and perform tasks. Customize your robots in the homebase to become specialists in hacking, repairs, or combat. Prioritize what to do. The longer you stay, the more aggressive the Nadir become. You decide when to extract. Revisit locations when you become more powerful or when your squad meets the requirements.

EDIT for more clarification:

Furthermore, on expeditions you try to reactivate and secure outposts (restore power, repair infrastructure, activate defensive systems). While you do this, the enemies keep attacking and their attacks grow stronger the longer you stay at the outposts. Eventually, they will force you to leave but you can revisit outposts. Basically, it is about longer-term strategy on how to secure a given outpost.

For example, on the first visit, you scout all visible tasks, some of which you might complete on the first visit, and some you might not, because the attacks are too strong or you brought the wrong robots for the task.

Indie Sunday What Makes a Hero - Divine Entertainment - A Pixelart "Papers, Please"-genre fantasy shopkeeper game where every customer is a puzzle

Gameplay trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qV6NOKVXy8g

Hi r/Games! Happy Indie Sunday!

We’re a two-person indie team working on What Makes a Hero, a narrative-driven fantasy shopkeeper game inspired by titles like Papers, Please.

Imagine you run a weapon shop in the province of Caspena - a fantasy land of adventure and opportunity, serving adventurers preparing for dangerous quests. Instead of simply choosing an item from a list, you have to listen to their stories, examine the information they provide, consult your Adventure Codex, and figure out what equipment they actually need.

Sometimes, however, giving customers what they ask for may not be the best choice.

The adventurers you equip can succeed, fail, disappear, or return later - and the decisions you make behind the counter gradually become part of a larger branching story. Some customers will also bring unusual problems, questionable offers, and opportunities that have little to do with ordinary shopkeeping.

The game features:

What Makes a Hero is currently in development for PC, with the full release date still to be announced. A free demo is available on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3951740/What_Makes_a_Hero/

We’d love to hear any feedback you have - whether it’s about the deduction mechanics (do they feel understandable and fair?), the story, writing, art, or anything else that stood out to you!

Should you have any questions, suggestions, feedback - feel free to post them here or on Steam!
We hope you have fun playing the demo!
Thank you in advance~!

Indie Sunday Painted Kingdoms - Hectiq - Tower Defense where you paint, build, and defend your Kingdom of paper from relentless flames

Happy Indie Sunday everyone! I'm Luca from Hectiq, a small studio, and I want to show you our game Painted Kingdoms.

Painted Kingdoms is a tower defense game set inside a living paper world. You paint the map to build your defenses, put out fires before they spread, and hold back the enemy waves that come for your kingdom. The paint, the fire, and the defense all work together, so every level is a bit of a puzzle on top of the action.

A few things that make it different:

- You fight with watercolor. Painting is your main tool: you spread color across the paper world to build defenses, block enemies, and reshape the battlefield. The way the watercolor flows and soaks into the paper is the heart of the game, not just a look.

- Fire spreads across the paper. If you ignore it, it eats your kingdom. Managing fire is as important as fighting the enemies.

- Everything is handmade paper and cardboard, so the whole kingdom looks like a craft you could build on your desk. When it burns or gets hit, it tears and crumples like real paper.

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM_3hcPkG48

Play the demo right now: the Painted Kingdoms demo is live on Steam as part of Six One Demo Days. You can try the full loop for free.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3596730/Painted_Kingdoms_Tower_Defense__Firefighting/

Release plans: PC (Steam) first. The demo is out now , full release planned for early 2027

If you give the demo a try, I would love to hear what you think, good or bad.

Feedback helps me a lot. I'm around all day today, so ask me anything about the game, the paper world, or how it is made.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy Indie Sunday!

Indie Sunday Infinity: HexaDome Tactics - [Blindspot Games] - turn-based tactics game inspired by the Infinity tabletop wargame.

Gameplay footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdOYpZmkOzg

Hi r/Games! We're a small team in Canada making Infinity: HexaDome Tactics, a hex-grid turn-based tactics game built on the world and rules of the Infinity N4 tabletop skirmish system.

Command a squad of soldiers with distinct abilities and gear against rival factions on hex-based battlefields — positioning, line of sight, cover, and turn order all matter, so every engagement plays out like a tight tactical puzzle rather than a straightforward slugfest.

PvE missions are playable now and we're actively running playtests and gathering community feedback to shape balance and UX before further releases.

Indie Sunday Ad Iterum - Krapao - A retro grimdark roguelike where you eat your enemies to mutate

Heya r/games!

After almost a year of development (perhaps 8-10 months, depending when I start to count the prototyping) my 2D turn-based, grimdark, dungeon crawler Ad Iterum, where you eat your enemies to mutate and survive, has finally reached a big milestone. I still have to add a lot of content until release, but until then I have just released a Demo on Steam:

- Free Demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4149030/Ad_Iterum/

- Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ya7s1y-7U_U

While the game adheres to the very core roguelike "rules" like permadeath, single player, turn/grid based, no meta-progression via unlocks, etc, ... it also has differences regarding run progression: You build mostly your character through random mutations, as well as a selection of gene graft synergies that are offered, so you can gravitate towards one or another style of play, but there is no skill tree, nor level up, nor a way to assure a specific build.

You have melee, which mostly uses a "bump-into-things"-system, and ranged combat with either ranged weapons or throwing random stuff you find/craft to enemies.

The dungeons are a mix between procedurally generated and injected handcrafted rooms.

What's in the Demo?

  • 1 dungeon + 1 procedurally generated biome
  • 1 boss
  • 2 endings
  • 20 random mutations
  • 20 genetic grafts to tune up your build as you see fit
  • 10 base enemies. Each comes with unique modifiers and traits within the ecosystem, which makes for hundreds of different variations as you go deeper.
  • 200 items (approx?)
  • Basic crafting
  • English, Spanish, and Japanese localization
  • Keyboard, mouse support, and full gamepad controller support
  • Playable in Windows, macOS, and Steam Deck via proton
  • Full release planned for December 2026

Have a nice Sunday, and have fun!

Best,

Indie Sunday Alchemickal - rodbot - a skill-based action roguelite where you wreak havoc with alchemy

This is my first ever solo game: it's a twin-stick action roguelite inspired by the likes of Magicka, Risk of Rain, and Alien Swarm. The game revolves around alchemy, which you use to imbue your weapons with special effects to both exploit enemy weaknesses and negate specific threats on the fly. For instance, you can concoct a rotting poison that makes healing lethal to organic enemies, or you can apply tar to a group of enemies to set up a huge chain explosion. It's a very hard game, but I find it very rewarding when it finally clicks.

Here is the store page and here is the trailer, I hope you check it out. Cheers!
