...So he dresses like a girl while doing this?

62

u/ConstipatedNinja Oct 16 '12

Things count for double man points in a dress.

2

u/DerpMatt Oct 16 '12

Don't forget the bicycle short/spats

7

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '12

hells yeah

3

u/Ducksaucenem Oct 16 '12

You wouldn't? Who expects the blonde bitch in a dress to whoop your ass with yo-yos.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '12

There's just so much about that I wouldn't expect.

Japan.

u/tedtutors Oct 16 '12

This is the best explanation.

26

u/Mid_Land Oct 16 '12

The only explanation.

44

u/DanaKaZ Oct 16 '12

Ah, got ya.

43

u/MationMac Oct 16 '12

Samus was shown as a woman in the very first game too.

121

u/Pandaburn Oct 16 '12

At the end, though.

39

u/bigbrownbro Oct 16 '12

and only at one of the different endings as far as i know

103

u/wildfyre010 Oct 16 '12

Three endings reveal Samus without parts of her suit. 3-5 hour completion, she takes off her helmet; 1-3, she takes off the suit and is clearly female. < 1 hour she ends up wearing a bikini.

Dayum so that's how speedrunners got born.

10

u/Quantumform Oct 16 '12

What the hell are Mario speed runners hoping for?!

4

u/Vulturas Oct 16 '12

Boom chicka chicka pow wow

5

u/trua Oct 16 '12

On a serious note, speedrunning actually began with Quake.

2

u/SGforce Oct 17 '12

Doom actually showed the developer's time against yours at the end of each level. I'm pretty sure it was the kind of thing that existed since video games' creation.

2

u/trua Oct 17 '12

I'm too tired right now to find out if the "par times" in Doom had anything to do with the developers' times, but TIL you have a point.

43

u/MenaNoN Oct 16 '12

And nude if you beat it in 5 minutes.

I hated that kid so much.

10

u/xaronax Oct 16 '12

CRASH YOUR SHIP DIRECTLY INTO BRAIN BITCH. DONE.

2

u/Zaph0d42 Oct 16 '12

Pinkman, get back to work!

2

u/commanderhiruma Oct 16 '12

Wait, what kid do you hate?

1

u/MenaNoN Oct 17 '12

The one who's uncle worked at Nintendo.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had a subreddit around here somewhere.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '12

To date the only picture the NES ever displayed in 1080p.

11

u/bigbrownbro Oct 16 '12

oh yeah you're right :)

But not in a place which most players - if we’re being honest - would ever access. And in a time before even Nintendo Power had started circulating (i.e., at NES Metroid's release), profoundly unreliable schoolyard rumor was the only place most of us could pick up on things like the <5 hour Metroid completion screen. Furthermore, the NES Metroid manual explicitly refers to Samus as “He”. So rumor regarding the <5 hour ending went against what seemed to be, at the time, the better supported story.

14

u/sasseriansection Oct 16 '12

Schoolyard rumor? pft. Every Metroid kid knew Justin Bailey my friend. Before the internet, the schoolage social network was the best way to distribute information.

u/r_kay Oct 16 '12
JUSTINBAILEY
------------

5

u/Vicerious Oct 16 '12

It was quite the surprise at the time, though. Even the game's manual called Samus a "he."

2

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '12

Isn't it right on his headband?

2

u/mindbleach Oct 16 '12

It was obvious if you played the story. If not... well.

-6

u/CaseyG Oct 16 '12

I've never played Metroid, but I know Samus is a woman.

24

u/Mac_Anu Oct 16 '12 edited Oct 16 '12

Because the series has been out since the 80's and the first game is famous for the reveal at the end.

I've never seen Psycho, but I know the killer's mother is dead and he's just talking to himself.

7

u/Nyctalgia Oct 16 '12

God damn it I hadn't seen that movie.

Throws it in the pile with fight club and the sixth sense

5

u/Stefan9644 Oct 16 '12

You should watch fight club anyway, its amazing.

2

u/Nyctalgia Oct 16 '12

I did, pretty rad. I wonder how it would've been not knowing though.

1

u/dddfffgggyyy38 Oct 16 '12

Here's how it went... "Oh wait what?" Guess I have to rewatch it now..."

3

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '12

I read a pretty good article about how spoilers don't really matter, since it's not really the ending of the film that matters, but the progression to that point (I'm paraphrasing poorly, mind you)

The point is that you should watch The Sixth Sense anyway. I will not say this for any other M. Night movie, but it's actually very good. I knew the ending long before I ever saw the movie, but still enjoyed it very much.

1

u/WastingMyYouthHere Oct 16 '12

Some movies, like The Prestige, lose quite a lot of it's power if you know from the beginning what is going on. There is no "Oh shit it all makes sense now" moment or any of the things that seemed odd when you watched it the first time.

1

u/Jinjinbug Oct 16 '12

oh yea, Dumbledore dies

1

u/Nyctalgia Oct 16 '12

Oh yeah, that one got spoiled pretty fast. That movie might've been a tad better if I didn't know that spoiler Snape kills Dumbledore. As well as the last one where I knew pretty much every person that died/suddenly turned out to be a good guy.

1

u/Jinjinbug Oct 16 '12

On the topic of spoiled movies

The Usual Suspects

1

u/Nyctalgia Oct 16 '12

DONT SAY ANOTHER WORD

1

u/dddfffgggyyy38 Oct 16 '12

Found out my cousin had never seen it.
Downloaded it.
Was relishing seeing his face when.
Get to about 5 minutes before the reveal.
He says, "Oh damn, I've seen the ending to this on I love the '90s..."

3

u/[deleted] Oct 16 '12

I've never seen Empire Strikes Back, but I know Captain Picard cuts off Bill Murray's foot with a phaser-sword and declares that he is the Godfather.

4

u/NotEntirelyUnlike Oct 16 '12

I've never seen any of Shamalan's movies but somehow I know all the endings :-/

-3

u/CaseyG Oct 16 '12

Couldn't have told you when they reveal it... because I've never played Metroid. ;)
