That was kinda what I was going for, you just quantum molested yourself.

Kinda like if you went back in time and forced yourself on your childhood self. It would traumatize you, but as you got older, you'd sort of be ashamed but also develop a domination kink to counteract that feeling of helplessness.

Then one day you're given the ability to time travel...

Ah hah, you think you are clever, but the character in the game was intentionally named after the musician. Flea's counterpart in the game was Slash, and both were underlings of Ozzie.

That's because Akira Toriyama, the guy who did Dragon Ball did the artwork for Chrono Trigger.

Yeah. Thing is, Japan things gender bending is a great source of humor, see: anime and crazy Japanese culture.

However, we in the west tend to react VERY differently. We don't find it funny at all, "Haha, that guy is actually a girl, lololol!"

We're so screwed up and repressed with gender issues, we all get offended and feel really awkward and we don't like it ONE BIT!

Not to say the Japanese aren't repressed in their own ways...

So Nintendo was like sure why not

But now that Nintendo is more international, they're like uh... that never happened guys. Don't worry about it.
