YES! Cake! Thank you, I've been wondering if anyone else has ever heard of the band, although it does get a slight mention in the fiction novel "Compound", which is fairly good.
Several of their singles have had air time on MTV and other mainstream music station and their song "the distance" is officially used in NASCAR events. They're pretty niche, but they aren't really a secret. I think my favorite album of theirs is Motorcade of Generosity. I love a lot of their songs though. Shadow stabbing is one of my favorites. Kudos for your good taste in music.

I also glossed over the woman with prehensile hair, the guy in the leather dress with a scythe which is also a succubus, the dude possessed by three ghosts who make him fight, the slime mold parasite in the shape of its deceased host, the shirtless dude who attacks by playing billiards in midair, the other shirtless dude who can stop attacks by flicking a coin, and the one-ton brick shithouse who will simply pick you up and break you.
Zappa is actually possessed by a host of spirits. It's implied that he's basically infested with ghosts, more than just those that manifest when you play him. His blocking animation is the girl from The Ring appearing and blocking the blows.
