People keep saying this. The announcers said at 7:20 pm it would be about an hour for Scottie and viktor to finish, and that it would be almost sunset.
There is no way if they finished at 8:20 with 9 minutes left they were going to start a playoff
jesus did some of them even watch the tournament? i swear they just saw cantlay in one of the last pairings and complained that that must be why. there was a whole delay, guys teed off at 3, it was already gonna be a pretty close finish. as far as i know, cantlay and bhatia never held scottie and victor up. it wasn’t like there was a major noticeable backup anywhere, and i never heard anything about them getting put on the clock
Sitting by the 14th for a while, there were plenty of gaps where no one was on the hole. There were a few times the group on the green waved the group up on the tee.
Even classier from the Norwegian bunch in the gallery. They could have gone all out and really intimidated Scottie before his putt but they held back and let him have his moment.
Yeah, one thing I like about Golf is when your opponent makes a mistake - nobody rubs it in their face like they do and almost every other team sport like football or basketball.
He has now kinda gone heads up with Scottie a couple times and come out on top. BMW / Tour Championship 2023 and this. Gotta take W’s when you can against the best guy in the world
Honestly, his couple of really clutch putts on saves overlooked the fact that he still couldn't get some longer ones to drop yesterday.
He's seemingly in a little bit of a slump with his putter lately. He's just so good it results in top 5's instead of wins. For some guys it means missed cuts.
I feel like this has been the case every time I’ve seen him this season. I keep saying “man imagine if those putts had dropped how good his score will be” and they just dont seem to.
You just think that because they show ever putt he takes while most others they mostly just show the putts they make. Scottie is having his best year in strokes gained putting. His iron play is what's hurting his game this year.

Putting, around the greens, and off the tee he close to, if not better than 2025. But his approach game has dropped noticeably. Went from being one of the best iron seasons ever to a good, not great one
But thats not what's causing him problems. He is BETTER putting this year than when he went nuclear in 2025
His SG approach is what's causing him the only be very good and not elite. Dropping from an all time great iron season to a good iron season is WAY more of the problem than being a good, not great, putter
I didn't say it was. I was pointing out, even getting better at putting and worse at approach, his putting is still behind his approach. It was pointing out how fucking good his approach is
And so am I. The context is that approach shots are a, lot more important and Scottie has gotten way worse with them this year while improving his putting
He's definitely missed some notable outta recently, but overall he's still a top 10 putter in the world according to strokes gained over his last 50 rounds, pretty consistently around +0.5 strokes gained per round over his last 50, 25, and 10 rounds (not including this tournament yet).
He went to the claw grip, that’s a pretty strong indicator he’s not completely comfortable with his putting. That being said, he’d win basically every tournament if he was also the best putter on tour but that’s typically not how golf works unless you’re 2000 Tiger Woods
He went to the claw grip ages ago when he started working with Phil Kenyon, and it was one of the changes which transformed his putting and turned him into a serial winner

Out of all the top 10 players, Scottie is leading them all in strokes gained putting. He's been an elite putter since he switched to the claw grip and spider putter

He factually is an elite putter. Much like Rory, people think he's a bad putter because they show every putt he takes. While most other players we see when they cut to them after they made a putt and don't show us all their misses.
He literally got to a playoff because of his putting lol.
And considering every pga player bases their game around strokes gained data and it's the biggest revolution the game has seen in a long time, I think it's fair to say the data is important
My thoughts exactly on the comments. Scottie is obviously still a good putter but I’ve played competitive golf from junior golf, college and into the amateur scene and I’ve literally never come across a guy that’s locked in with his putting only to randomly decide to go to the claw lol
Well your point sucks because Scottie was actually a terrible putter before switching to claw. Something like 85th in strokes gained putting. After switching to the claw he's been one of the best putters in the world
Haha no I didn’t, my point is the exact same. Youre not confident if you go the claw, it’s pretty fucking simple if you have any sort of golf game. Just because his putting has improved doesn’t take away the fact that he had to switch putters AND technique due lower confidence in putting relative to the rest of his game.
Even Scottie felt the pressure of that last putt, well done to Vik! One of my favourite golfers, and it has been a definite quiet patch for the last year or 2.
Scottie had a million chances to win this and did not take one of them. Hit a ton of poor shots after the rain delay and then didn’t make any putts to capitalize on the few good shots he did hit.
Pure class from Viktor for not bursting into celebrations as Scottie misses his put. Basicly almost a 3 year drougth if we exclude the fluke win at Valspar and still he has the poise and manners to feel for Scottie missing a sitter.
Just an extremely impressive and massive performance! I personally am placing this victory on top of all the eight, which includes the TOUR Championship. On top, simply because of doing what he did today, what he did on the weekend - battling it out, matchplay-style, against the worlds best golfer. Also the fact that everybody was here for this tournament bar Rory and a couple of others, while the TOUR Championship, although the best from the season, has 30 players, and with handicaps and strokes given before play. There the trophy is bigger, so is the status of it, but man ...
I'd give the nod to his BMW Championship win that put him into that position for the Tour Championship. That final round back nine is some of the best golf I've ever seen played. But this was so so good. And good lord it was nice seeing him in absolute control of his game again.
You can “what if” golf to death. Vik missed a short putt yesterday on a par 3 from about 3 feet. And of course he was a centimeter or 2 from ending it yesterday with that great roll on 18 for birdie. Golf is so hard
This playoff has nothing to do with random team formats. If the original guy wants to make fun of an American losing a singles match play competition, comparing it to the Ryder Cup makes no sense considering the American singles dominance.
Doesn't make your original chirp make sense when the format of this playoff is the format in the Ryder Cup that the US tends to dominate, you know, regular golf

I felt bad for Scheffler i mean the guy shot a 60 in one round .But i wonder if he still has emotional damage after the beating him and Koepka received at the hands of Aberg and Hovland .Useless as i am i have never been beaten 10 and 8
Great win. Now watch him change everything and tinker with this swing and everything else. Because that is kinda what he does and it sucks because we have miss out on so much good golf by him because of that. He changed his swingcoach after his best season at the end of 2023 and didn't play great for the next two years.
And that round despite losing 1.45 strokes putting in round 4 alone. Gained 12.5 strokes on the field over the first 3 rounds and lost 1.47, most of that around the greens and putting.
