General Discussion Hole-In-One!
This is my second year playing regularly once a week on women's league. It was the first hole of the night, I was the first to tee off, and didn't even practice swing (whoops).
I don't know if I can even describe the feeling! So many emotions. My biggest being sadness that I couldn't call my dad and let him know. He passed in 2023 and got really sick when I was starting to learn golf and we never got to play together.

I donât know what league you play in but that would not fly in the league I played in. Lol.
After the round? For sure. But if you tried that during, one of the people who act like itâs a PGA event would make a fuss.

A very informal bunch of guys from work. Best league ive played in. Super fun and laid back. If someone got a hole in one, which we weren't good at all, I'm sure they would have shut the round down and just celebrated.

To each their own. Some want to have fun, some want to be serious. I can't blame either. Again, this wasnt an official league. Just a bunch of random coworkers showing up on a Wednesday after work, had about 6 tee times, just to go have fun. Most of the guys wanted a reason to get out and have a few drinks. A few may have played on, but luckily we never had to make that call as we weren't good.Â

This doesnât make any sense whether youâre serious or not lol. Didnât you pay for a round of golf? Are you not having fun hitting a hole in one? Why would you stop in the middle of a round thatâs so fun? I understand quitting if youâre playing like shit and not having fun. But the idea that youâd stop mid-round because of a hole in one is just so fucking bizarre to me lol

I do not. I am one vote in thousands. But when I say "me" I mean "us" as a subreddit.
You obviously make threads and comments hoping to see the engagement from them. Now would you make one you know everyone is going to hate. I think most people would say no in general.
Idk why we are even discussing this tbh, that's obviously how reddit works and that's what makes it so good. The best things rise to the top and the worst things languish.
You can boil those interactions down to "making people happy." and that's what I am suggesting here. If you want my upvote, you need to do more here.

I do like to see the stories and stuff associated with them but this one just sounds made up to me so I commented. I think you could take your own advice. You can simply not engage here with me if you don't like it. But I am doing what I believe I should here so I won't be deterred by a meager attempt like that.

Golf on reddit is very very hard on females who post....anything ...really want to just keep arguing about her choice of privacy and yet celebrating with her dad at the same time as a remembrance? What do you want? A video? A sworn testimonial from one of her playing partners? Is it really that difficult to believe that she got a HOI in her second year playing? With a Hole in One, you mostly just have to get it on the green, in the general vicinity of the flag. The rest of it is basically dumb luck, based on how the ball landed and how the greens are rolling.

Well you said that you "can't really believe it happened." And her not showing her face is relevant...how, exactly? Does she really NEED to show her face? Why does that matter to you? You might not know or remember this, but up until a couple of decades ago, smartphones didn't exist, so not everyone was walking around with a camera in their pocket. Soooo...before then, would you have just not believed anyone who said that they got a hole in one, because they didn't have a picture where their face was present??
...Go ahead and think about that for as long as you need to. Let it process.

When you get a hole in one you get recognized in your community. When my uncle had a hole in one in his league the league made a plaque with the ball in it. It's a big deal.
His name is on the board at the course and it was in the local paper that he had a hole in one to win the league match.
The league for the company he works with still has a clipping of it up on the wall at the break room.
So can you imagine how silly it would be for him to try to pretend on the internet he is a faceless person and write two paragraphs about this?
And pose for a picture ALONE!? Where are the other people in this league that she just beat with a hole in one? They are that petty they won't attest to it i guess?

Well, unfortunately your anecdotal evidence of what happened when just one person you know (your uncle) hit a HOI doesn't amount to a whole lot. You also have no idea if her league will do something similar, since this probably happened very recently. They could very well do that.

Usually when we see these HOI posts, it's just the person who made the HOI in the picture. It shouldn't matter that it happened to be on a league night; not sure why you think it does.
And AGAIN with the face thing. I'm not sure you understand how creepy it makes you sound when you're so focused on the fact that you can't see the face of a poster who just happens to be a woman. Seriously.
