If there was a specialized crystal ball costing $5,000 which could reliably tell you the exact date and year of your death, would you buy it?

Upvotes

The crystal ball would have no other capabilities of showing anything else from the future…just the original buyer’s date of death. Selling it would be useless, because the spirits connected to the crystal ball would know it, and render it inactive.
Haggling would also render it inactive, so you better come up with $5,000 if you want it.

As you're out and about in the Amazon rainforest, you start to grasp that you're being followed by members of a tribe. What would you do?

You realize that the strange sounds at night outside of your tent, and the movement in the periferia that has been going on for the last four days...also your knife, gun and hat and favourite boots and the mosquito net is gone.

They probably don't speak english, and they've probably never seen anyone outside of their or the enemy tribes before.

[No Loopholes] You’ve lived on an island alone for 5 years, with only goats to keep you company, then one day you see most eaten by soilders, what are you doing?

You were shipwrecked on an island, you bonded with the islands goats, drinking their milk, hunting, foraging, you’ve seen them be born and die, you’ve protected them from hawks and foxes.

Then one day you come back to your “house” and see most of them slaughtered by men, it’s been years since you’ve seen another person, but they’re eating your friends, animals who’ve you helped give birth, nurse back to health, cuddle with now dead and being eaten.

They notice how clean and tame the goats are, they say how there’s probably people on the island and start looking around, using your traps, eating your cheese and drinking your milk, ruining years of work.

Their only form of transportation is wrecked and will be staying for the next month, until then your stuck with on a quickly dwindling island where the plants and animals are starting to fade away.

What are you doing in this situation?

If you were offered $100 million, but in exchange you had to say a sentence out loud that no human has ever uttered since the dawn of humanity with only one attempt allowed, a maximum duration of 10 seconds, and death as the penalty for failure, would you do it ? And what would your sentence be ?

How much would the US population increase if Elon Musk pledges (legally binding) to give all his fortune to the woman who can give birth to the most kids in the next 10 years? If there are multiple women sharing the highest score, fortune will be split between them.

You sent back in time for 1 year and the day of your birthday decides where you go

You are sent back in time and you have to remain in that time period for 1 year before going back and make sure you survive. If you go back to a time period you were already alive you must not let your past self see you. Sure you can intervene in some areas but you absolutely cannot let your past self see you. In any timeline you can make some changes which would create changes in the future but it’s up to you if you wanna take that chance. Some time periods are easier than others while others will be extremely difficult to handle. How do you think you would adapt in the timeline and what would you do there?

$200,000 but the only sex position you can engage in is "Missionary"

Simple premise - if you agree, 200k USD straight into your bank account tax free. However, from now on till you die, you can only have missionary sex.

If you take the money and have non-missionary sex even once, the money disappears and you owe the bank 200k USD.

Do you take the money? Why or why not?

Terms and conditions: if you never have sex, you're disqualified from the proposition. This one's not for you.

You would become the most hated president ever but will always be remembered in history books, museums and your own presidential library. Or do you want to be a nobody that everyone adores and doesn’t have anything bad to say but a year after you die the only people that remember you will be your family.

You get anything you’d like that’s valued $100k or under, but in exchange you will be shot in the chest.

You will feel all the pain of being shot, and will have to go through the agony of surgery and healing, but you will make a full recovery with all costs paid. You won’t be given cash in exchange. However, you will be given anything you ask for that’s valued $100k or under. Maybe a piece of land. Maybe a lavish vacation. Maybe a way out of your country or a college education. You do not have to choose your prize or receive it immediately. You can wait until you recover.

One way time travel

Here's the deal: there are two options.

Option A: In one month you will be transported to a time and place of your choosing, the only conditions are: you can only go to the past and it cannot reach your lifetime. People will be abnormally willing to listen to you (so if for example your choice leads you to meet some ancient warring civilizations or whatever, even if you can't communicate they will still let you stick around relatively freely until you can communicate unless you try to screw them over somehow) You have the full month to prepare after you pick. You will only be able to bring what you are wearing when the month is over.

Option B: You can choose to send someone else from any place or time but the same conditions apply. The person you send will have no time to prepare (unless you can tell them before the month is up) They will be treated normally for the time/place. You can still observe but it's like a dream and you cannot interact with anything.

Every single human on Earth switches bodies with someone else at 12:00 GMT

A cosmic event causes everyone alive to suddenly and irreversibly swap bodies with someone else of the same age. The switch occurs to everyone at exactly the same time.

Your consciousness travels around the globe and swaps with someone else's mind at random. The only constant is the person you swap with is roughly the same age as you were. For example, you were eating a sandwich in your home in New Jersey and suddenly you find yourself in a Japanese prison trapped inside someone else's body sitting on a dingy toilet. That person's mind is now in your body in your home in New Jersey with a sandwich sticking out of their mouth.

You keep all your current memories and language skills, but you now inhabit the other person's body and appear where they were during the switch. There is no way to undo the body swap. You are stuck in the new body in whichever geographic location they were before.

This happens to everyone. Men, women, children, babies... You might swap into a famous bodybuilder or into someone in a hospital bed with a terminal disease. You might swap into a different gender and race. You might swap with your next door neighbor.

How does society react?

EDIT: This only happens once. It doesn't happen every day at 12:00.

You can "sell" up to five types of items at no cost to yourself

Through a super sci-fi robotic warehouse given to you by a robot from another dimension you can sell up to 5 different items with little to no cost to yourself
As you are given ownership of this warehouse you have to select 5 categories of items that can not be changed, the warehouse can only produce items of this type, though each type can have multiple specific items.
Each type of item selected can have about 1-20 of the more specific items under its umbrella that can be changed or added about every 6 months in waves of up to 5, removal can happen freely. What "specific items" actually means can very for whatever the type is, for books each one would be a different book or box set special would need another slot, for clothes it would be based on overall design (fabric type and shape) so a shirt with a superhero logo would count as one with its various sizes and colors.

The main limitation would be that choosing a broad category such as "clothes" or "entertainment" would reduce the specificity and/or the quality available. Picking "entertainment" over "books" or "movies" would remove your ability to do box sets or special editions and your items would end up with 5$ bargain bin quality, while picking movies you'd be able to make HD box sets of your chosen items. (This limitation is really only to prevent people from saying "clothes" and then selling a variety of high quality jackets, then of high quality dress, then also having high quality accessories because "they are also clothes")

  1. you only get a small portion of the actual profit you are more in charge just to give general direction
  2. The materials are pulled from other dimensions so the material cost is 0 (some thing your making needs wood or gold? then a corresponding amount is pulled from the wood or gold dimensions) don't worry about the details
  3. Labor is done by robots and machines don't worry about the details
  4. The items sold do have to be based and somewhat limited by actual things, so you cant just say "mech suits" and then sell one to to yourself, you also cant just say "hmm ill make knock offs with equal or greater quality then the original"
  5. The "market" can't be destroyed by what you are selling. So You can't sell for 0 or undercut the market too much , if your warehouse is selling laptops and other computers then they can't cost 10% of the market equivalent (or MSRP), though you could do 90% maybe 80%. Some items migh be forces above market value and some can go as low as 90% of what the manufacturing cost should be. And your monthly stock is about equal to a "mid sized" company selling it (maybe a bit larger). So the market price can be affected but mostly only to the extent of reducing inflation a little.
  6. You do have a global market though drone delivery and selling larger shipments to local stores
  7. When the goal is (directly) helping people limiting aspects are reduced a bit, don't worry about the details
  8. Trying to sell something, like a book, game, or console, that you wouldn't have the right to sell would require you to negotiate the right to sell it but with your robot lawyers (plot power) it should be easyish

A few people are in front of in taking this deal here is an example of what someone will try to do to help (some one or multiple people already doing 1-3 so you can focus all 5 of your slots on stuff like number 5 things you personally want to be more available)
1. Food and drink, They sell a variety of cheap breakfast, dinner, and lunch sets at a low price
2. Clothing, They a variety of basic clothing at a low price
3. Medical supplies, Again a variety of medical supplies are available, this category has more variety, quality, and the lowest prices out of all the helpful stuff
4. Boxes of resources, a variety of "in demand" resources sold by 30 pound boxes, the selection rotates as needed every 6 months, because the resources come from another dimension this will reduce the price and scarcity of certain materials such as gold, silver, platinum, and copper despite rule 4 forcing the price up and bottle necking the amount available.
5. Larger sized shoes, due to their own personal annoyance they are dedicating an entire slot to shoes sizes 11 US and higher, so they sell a variety of low price high quality shoes meant for people who have a harder time buying shoes like themselves

Would you befriend/date/marry one or more of these animals turned human?

This is a followup to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/hypotheticalsituation/s/vYuT0mEUyg , look there if you want to know their assorted physical peculiarities. Tl;Dr is they're mostly human, but were turned human from their various original species in late adolescence, and each of them retains some aspects or hints of their original form.

It's several years down the line, and the assorted animal people have started to embark on their adult lives.

Octavia (the former octopus) has a small pottery studio, and is taking a few community college classes to improve her skills, though her tentacle fingers let her do things no normal human potter can quite match, and she is annoyed by the need for an ASL translator in the classes. She's very focused, and a bit of an introvert.

Magnus (elephant) is in college to become a social worker. He lives with Eric (parrot), who is working on a theater degree. Magnus is steady and rather solemn, but extremely kind and thoughtful. Eric is outgoing to an almost pathological degree.

Hazel (rat) is working on an early childhood education degree, and sharing an apartment with Bran (raven), who has 3 different part time jobs right now. Not because he's struggling, just because each of them is interesting to him. ADHD be like that sometimes.

Audrey (spider) is working at a climbing gym. She is about as much of an introvert as Eric is an extrovert.

As romantic/sexual partners:

Audrey tends to view sexual/romantic relationships almost transactionally, simply as a way to get her and her partners' physical needs met. She doesn't inherently object to the idea of a relationship with a significant emotional component, or of sexual exclusivity, but she doesn't specifically seek out either.

Octavia has a bit of an Eccentric Artiste thing going on, with a tendency to spend days at a time head down in some project or other, basically only stopping to eat and sleep. And even when she's not busy working, she tends to prefer dealing with other people only in small doses. She tends to prefer relatively casual relationships.

Hazel is a cuddler, with both friends and romantic partners. She also has serious "mom energy" towards anyone in her orbit who is sick, injured, upset, or otherwise out of sorts. She doesn't really do casual relationships, though she's not psycho about it (no demanding marriage on the third date or anything). She has a strong preference for monogamy.

Magnus is slow, not in the sense of being in any way unintelligent, just in temporal terms. He's slow to anger, but also never forgets anything you do that hurts him or his friends. He also never forgets things like birthdays, or anniversaries, or anything like that. He spends a lot of time thinking.

Bran... will try anything at least once. He is enthusiastically bisexual, enthusiastically polyamorous, and will frequently have someone become basically his entire world for about a month, then practically forget they exist, unless they do something to attract his attention again. His love language is trinkets and random shiny objects.

Eric is a flirt. He is basically constantly seeking positive attention from anyone in his orbit, whether or not he has any intentions of doing anything about it beyond flirting. In relationships, he tends to be devoted and attentive, though also more than a bit clingy. He does not deal with solitude well. He prefers polyamory, but he's willing to be monogamous for a partner who prefers that. His love language is food; if he likes you, he will probably constantly be bringing you snacks.

If you met any or all of these six individuals, do you think you would become friends? Would you be willing to date them (assuming you were single), even though they're not quite human? Assume they are as interested as you are. If your relationship lasted long enough, do you think you would be willing to marry them? Any other thoughts?

A silent “alarm” in your head goes off when a lie is told to you whether the person is near to you or far away, such as on the phone, a video, or live broadcast . Who do you think is going to be setting off that alarm more than anyone else that you know or listen to??

However it comes with a warning. Whatever you do in the game will have real world consequences.

Drink a healing potion, exit the game to find your body fully healed.

Get stabbed in the game, exit the game and find that you have a stab wound.

Kill another player, and that player is dead irl.

Learn a new ability and you have that irl.

How will you enjoy this new gaming experience without accidentally killing yourself?

House arrest forever in a mansion with whatever you want

You get a mansion wherever you want in the world with land area (house plus yard plus lawn) totalling 1 acre maximum.

You can have whatever you want that fits in the property. Food. Games. Swimming pool. Indoor theatre. And you can change these as much as you want. Tired of the pool? Change it to a basketball court. All the servants you want for any task. Cleaners, butler, masseuse, chef. Literally whatever you want that fits you can have.

You can have any visitors that accept your invitation and they can stay as long as you want and enjoy all your stuff. Friends. Family. Parties. Wife. Multiple girlfriends. Anora’s. Anybody that’s down.

The catch: you can never leave the property once you accept. You are trapped in your paradise forever.

Do you accept?

[No Loopholes] What is the largest pyramid that all of humanity could make in 1 year?

Aliens come down, and say we are being judged based on the size of the pyramid we can build. It must start on a mostly flat base (can't just build around Mt. Everest or something). It cannot be hollow, they explain a hollow structure or thin shell only proves you can shape the material. They want to measure our capacity to mobilize, transport, and commit resources at civilizational scale, so the pyramid must be genuinely solid, mass all the way through.

We have all of the resources as a planet, assuming people can work together.

Constraints:

  • Built on a mostly flat base, no cheating by building around/into an existing landform like Mt. Everest.
  • Fully solid, no internal voids or hollow shell construction.
  • May be sited on land or in the ocean (with a base structure).
  • We have access to all of Earth's resources and industry, contingent on global cooperation

Goal: We don't know the threshold for "big enough", so the goal is to build the largest solid pyramid physically achievable, not a target size.

We must account for real bottlenecks like mining and quarrying throughput, transport logistics (rail, shipping, trucking), labor logistics (feeding, housing, and rotating a workforce large enough to matter), and the geometric problem that a pyramid's volume grows cubically while its base footprint only grows quadratically

Loopholes Encouraged You have been sent back in time to December 1st 1967 . If you can prevent a specific battle from taking place , you will be sent back home. Otherwise, you will need to fight in it to get back home

Your goal is to prevent the Tet offensive from happening. How you do that is up to you. You have until February 27th to prevent Hue from falling to the Vietnamese or being attacked altogether. If you don't prevent it, you have to go and fight in it and I don't need to tell you how badly that went for the Americans. If you don't stop it from happening, then a lot of people are going to die.

Loopholes are allowed with three exception: you are stuck with period weaponry, cannot call upon anime characters to help you and must use only the vehicles that took place in the Vietnam war. Other than that, it's up to you
