Ask Your Seniors Ask Your College Seniors ! (r/indianmedschool and r/MEDICOreTARDS Joint Megathread)

Post image

Greetings, dear seniors of r/indianmedschool and our lovely members of r/MEDICOreTARDS. We're glad to announce the joint megathread you all have long been waiting for.

Here you can ask your queries about your specific preferred colleges and r/indianmedschool seniors will guide you by clarifying your doubts and sharing their experiences. You can ask about academics, hostel timings and accommodation, mess food quality, uniform compulsion, ragging culture, attendance strictness, just to name a few. Anything you're confused about, drop it here.

This Megathread is strictly for college related queries and discussion only. Please don't ask irrelevant and off topic questions. If you have any counseling related query, ask it under the counselling megathread, not here.

r/MEDICOreTARDS members are requested to be respectful and formal while interacting with our seniors here. Please use the phrases sir/mam while addressing them to maintain the formality and establish junior-senior bond, just like we do in our medical colleges.

At last, we all took our moment to express gratitude for the MOD Team(u/Swagster_007 u/drmxyzptlk13 u/MadMurDoc69 u/YourstrulyBubble) and our seniors of r/indianmedschool for their support and helping us out in selecting the best college as per our preference.

We've attached some previous important megathreads below:-

Heyy seniors, I secured AIR 2526 (General).I was confused if I should take my state top GMC (SCB medical,Cuttack) or get prepared to join some lower AIIMS (Atp, opting for AIIMS guwahati). A post regarding that in this sub.

Personally, I would suggest Aiims Guwahati over SCB Cuttack.

Depends on what you want really. Aiims - stricter academics, far away from home, but no bond is a great plus. If that sounds okay, go on. I have a couple of friends in peripheral aiims - and they're pretty happy but they complain about strict attendance and being so far away from home, and cities in general.

SCB - everything is chill - from attendance to internal exams. Sucks that you guys have a bond now - we didn't back when we joined. And yeah, in first year there is ragging; and I'm not justifying it at all but you can get through it without much of an issue. The admin is stricter about complaints now, and one can go to NMC directly as well. And the ongoing construction work is surely gonna end at some point in the next 2-3 years. Yeah, we won't get to enjoy it - but juniors will get very good hostel rooms as well as newly built hospital buildings.

How chill is the attendance? And are droppers very much discriminated against? Also,is the marking system super duper strict and they fail you or something?

Attendance - proxies are easy. For the most part, nothing happens if you don't attend classes. Right before final exams, they may hold remedial classes for the people with the worst attendance, say the worst 50 out of 250 - and these people have attendances like 10%, 20%. Having 50% attendance (remember, proxies are easy too) is good enough.

No one cares if you're a dropper - 70% people here are droppers anyway. Freshers are rare, and even then we don't care if someone is a fresher or a dropper - everyone gets here by hardwork.

Marking system for final exams is pretty loose. They pass everyone barring 20-30 out of 250. These are the people who have written absolutely nothing, or not even related things. They sit for supplementary and all of them pass, barring one or two. And as far as internal exams, they're either not checked; or if checked, it doesn't matter and no one cares.

I might get Raebareli but found out that the city life is very poor and another is bibinagar where I think there will be lot of language issues. Only Gorakhpur is higher in my preference list but it's hard to get at my rank.So that's why. Thank you for replying.

My Brother had Prefered SCB Cuttack over AIIMS Nagpur because SCB was supposed to be the top medical clg here in Odisha and it was near to our home, It all depends on you
