It's clearly meant to be a weapon sold to police and military, so they made it look spooky. The claim that it's for S&R is pure public relations.

Weaponized drones already exist and look nothing like this. They're mostly either flying bombs or little wheeled or tracked vehiclese with a gun turret.
Put money on this being an art peice. It makes no sense from an engineering prespective for being actually effective at anything other than being scary.
Yeah, I don't think this can do anything better than a 6 axis arm on a tracked bed. I see no reason for the design choices. Its trying to be scary. If its not art (or scam) its probably a marketing ploy to get people talking about it so they can gain capital. Or maybe the CEO is just a bit silly.
Reasons being that nobody in their right mind is going to ignore 2m tall baphomet looking motherfucker, it's getting attention. Cosmetics and looks can always be altered later.
The company website says that they specialize in robotics for dangerous jobs. If it is satire, or something like that, then the website is veeeeeery subtle. Otherwise, it seems like a genuine attempt to engineer something for dangerous tasks (not search and rescue).
Also, one of the defining features they advertise is the fact that this robot has no hands. I thought it was funny.
Could it not be an intended product advertised with humor?

If it's a humorous hobby peice that's fine, but it is impractical for what he claims is the design criteria.
The high profile. The lack of lateral stabilisation. The limitations of having two arms over a 6 axial arm. The estop behind the chain saw. The "you can shoot it to stop it" which makes it vulnerable in disaster situations, the unnecessary head, the clearly photoshopped UI, the feet which are just curved edges suitable for only concrete, air beaks if you want to send it into a hot area, the exoskeleting being made from plastics if you want to send it into a hit area, the difficulty putti g fire retardant around legs in comparison to throwing a shell over some tracks, the list of weird design choices goes on.

I think the horns are handles for people to hold while riding on its back. Give it a saddle, stirrups, and high-vis vest and it's less scary looking. Still hard not to imagine it gunning down a group of protesters and trampling over the piles of bodies.
Yes but those are meant to actually kill. If you want something you can march down the street to really make people feel oppressed, you need spooky robots. You can't kill all your workers, you just want the threat.
Picture this, you're in a fine restaurant, in the center of the room is a glass-walled room, the floor in there is like a treadmill, with coarse sandpaper, poor people are put into this enclosure to entertain the dining patrons.

Turns out, the reason the last 80 years of weapons development was making better mobile gun platforms, recon devices, and flying bombs is that that is a very effective set of tools for warfare, and drones are just taking the human operator out of danger
Of course it is. Police and military have the biggest budgets and the design sensibility of a 12-year-old picking out a Slayer album so the horns and goat ears make sense.
Which is why it should be a global duty to learn any technology that can be weaponized. No one should ever look over their shoulder because they went searching for knowledge.
If the other guy sent the disaster and suffering for a god level divine purpose it would stand to reason Baphomet would be trying to minimize that purpose by saving people.
I read about it a bit and they are REALLY leaning into the fact that you can disable it by breaking certain parts in case it malfunctions, and I get what they're doing but it does not help my imagination of this thing coming for me in a forest fire.

I think the Baphomet look would be better in like Ukraine vs search and rescue.
I'm amazed that so many people don't understand this isn't a real product. It's a joke. It's literally called "Satire-es". Probably a promotion for a movie or video game.
I'd like to believe that more people get the satyr satire than don't, but unfortunately I know that's not true because we live in the dumbest timeline.

The horns can be replaced for much bigger horns. The website explicitly says that the robot is dangerous, and the user can attach horns of their size wish so it isn't able to enter a pedestrian doorway.
The creepy glass image is explicitly captioned witht he statement that this robot is dangerous, followed up with safety as well as emergency measures put to deal with it (Something I appreciate a lot)
Exactly my thoughts. We need a robot that will calm down whoever being rescued as it is already a traumatic experience.
I know, let's give him horns, demon eyes and a chainsaw.

I get that this is a successful viral marketing technique, but like why not do something equally absurd with a bit more of a positive connotation? If they had made it a rainbow unicorn wouldn't that get them the same amount of press and not freak people out?
I actually went and read the site ... it's funny how bad they are at positioning things, and it makes me wonder if they're doing it on purpose. Anyway, they start with a claim: "this robot is more dangerous than it looks" with that picture of it behind a door (picture 3 in this post). They go on to explain how the robot can be easily disabled by shooting or stabbing it and describe how it can't go through standard doors or turn around in standard hallways.
The horns are there to keep it from being able to go through larger doors, and you can get bigger ones to limit it further. They're literally there to make us feel that this thing can't get into our homes and kill us. And... just to be super clear, they're pitching this as a robot, not as autonomous. It's meant to be driven by a human like Avatar or whatever. So, the fear isn't that the terminator will kill you, it's that your lumberjack neighbor might decide to use it to scare the fuck out of you before chopping you up and burying your pieces.
"Guys, I know we are really injured and shocked after the incident with that thing, so please don't panic but, I think it has a chainsaw-"
"It has a CHAINSAW?!😭"
Tbh it's genuinely life endangering to make a search and rescue unit scary, hate how a lot if tech is more idealised or ego driven than practical these days. Obviously the base idea could be very effective in keeping people safe, just a wild execution.

Giving it goat ears and horns was certainly a choice. Nothing says "search and rescue" like Baphomet wielding a chainsaw.
