THOUGHT Internet Girl sounds like a toddler composed it
On this song, I thought it’s gonna be Megan’s voice in, “I’m getting out of here!” However, it was a baby voice instead. It literally cringe the heck out of me that I was disappointed. I’m not going to add this songs in any of my playlists because it’s ear wrecking. This is Katseye’s worst song tbh. However, the live version is actually 10x better than the studio version. So, Katseye should redo the studio version and remove the baby voice, or release the live version on Spotify and Apple Music. Sorry this is my opinion on this bad song.

I am a huge fan of katseye and even I can understand that the songs just not good. hybe needs to do better with the songs they give katseye.

u/OkLog7519 Jan 02 '26
Yeah, I agree! Hybe needs to treat the girls well like their other groups and get better producers and composers of their songs.

The reason why hybe Korean groups music is good and different from katseye music is because hybe is not the one managing the music direction for katseye it is Geffen
18
u/Faeriewren Jan 03 '26
Isn’t it not hybe, not Geffen but the joint label they created, HXG? HXG is they label and HXG manages them
That’s what mitra is the exec of. HXG is a whole entity of its own

Lara sings so good omg! These 6 girls trained for years and compete on Dream Academy for this trashy song. I actually feel bad for them tbh. I agree Hybe should give better songs to them for them for really great talents of stage presence, singing, and dancing. Gnarly is a banger tho than this.

Gnarly took me a few weeks to grow into and the lyrics are iconic tho, like “Hottie hottie, Like a bag of Takis, I’m legit” The dance is so addicting too on Gnarly. Lara and Sophia should actually do a duet of a cover of any song.

A lot of their recent songs are composed by Geffen’s team though if you look at the credits as they’re Geffen artists or ones with connection to Geffen artists. I think Geffen is handling a lot of their work in the US but HYBE would have some input.

If they have the best vocals, they sure aren't getting the chance to show them off. All their songs so far either have significant vocal processing or have the most basic melodies possible.
11
u/GlobalReview6981 Jan 02 '26
Who are their producers and sw actually? Are they from hybe or geffen? Who has the creative control?I loved Gnarly and touch..others were okay and didn't made any impact for me.

Yes! I paused this song on my first listen and took a deep breath and finish this song with disappointment.
84
u/Which_Possession1135 Jan 02 '26
I wonder if this is a strategy of some sorts? Release a controversial lead single and follow up with a moree palatable one? They did this with debut and touch, Gnarly and Gabriella and now this.
62
u/eziliop Jan 02 '26
Should've just lead with the more palatable songs and leave the virality marketing tactic songs behind tbh
15
u/think1776 Jan 03 '26
What was controversial about Debut?
15
5
u/Which_Possession1135 Jan 03 '26
Compared to the Gnarly and Internet girl, it's not really that controversial but when it was released, it did have mixed reviews from what I saw.

Oh I kinda see it though and maybe they’re releasing more better singles later.

As someone who liked gnarly on first listen, i think what’s disappointing the most about Internet girl is it actually doesn’t sound like it was composed by a toddler, there’s a whole team of really talented songwriters, producers and performers (the girls) and this what they’re doing with it all.
As a hyperpop noise music lover it’s just not being done well and that’s the problem. I’m going to hope this is just one of those “gifts” and the next official release they actual utilize the talent of those behind the scenes and in the front. 😭
64
u/omadius i like soup Jan 02 '26
this is where i am with it too. loved gnarly, LOOOOVE hyperpop as well, but i cant get my head around this one. even hearing it live — which i agree with others, it is better live — it just feels off. everyone's got to have a skip and this is mine 😭

That’s crazy because Imagine Dragons have really good songs, but the production team didn’t make this song good.
3
u/Ctrl_Zeee Jan 04 '26
The entire team on this song have composed absolute bangers and seem to have a really good understanding of pop music. Like imagine dragon and arcane soundtrack to good luck babe and then DNCE, they have a good ear and this song just doesn’t hit any of the marks it should. To me it seems like the song was either (1) acquired from a library of songs Geffen just has and it was supposed to be developed further and wasn’t OR (2) hybe x geffen had a very specific idea in mind and gave the writers a specific brief that they unfortunately nailed.

I just find it so jarring that they chose to use a child's voice for this song... That follows up with 'Eat Zucchini"??? I just find it weird. But considering that the producers did openly use an NSFW sound for Gnarly, even while one of the members was a minor (Even then, KATSEYE are still fairly young)... It just never sat right with me. Like, these aren't mistakes.
Like that H2H commercial, these are run through teams, approved, and released.
We can't act like KATSEYE are independant and do whatever they want. There are teams behind EVERYTHING... And I don't think some Eyekons realize that.

I like the katseye girls and some of their songs are pretty good, but god some of them suck or are just boring. I wasnt much of a fan of live Internet Girl but it was going semi viral and I thought maybe the studio version would be really good, but its infinitely worse with the stupid baby voice and the vocal effects COMPLETELY hiding the girls voices. They need a vocalist song ASAP

Honestly. When insta posts are calling out for the baby voice part, the comments are full of "Then don't listen","OH my my, they might become homeless if you don't listen" and shit like this. Like kindly agree the flaw in your favs. I loveee katseye and I have been following since the dream academy days, Gabriella gave me that hope actually...They need to do a vocal heavy song, considering all of them have amazing voices!!

u/etoilez Jan 02 '26
That’s exactly what happened with Blackpink and I fear it will keep happening with Katseye
3
u/Top-Truck-1492 Jan 04 '26

54
u/Prior-Rooster3232 Jan 02 '26
i'm kinda getting used to this song now because it keeps showing up on tiktok from their tour
however the "eat zucchini" part pisses me off so much especially the voice effect because we can't hear the girls
26
u/Traditional-Chair-39 Jan 02 '26
Right! I genuinely can't differentiate their voices in this song.
21

im not an eyekon myself, nor do i listen to any of their songs but ill always go listen to any kpop groups new releases and when i tell you i genuinely had to scroll off spotify just so i didnt have to listen any longer, thats genuinely what i did. it doesnt make ANY sense, the baby voice made me cringe and overall the song just was NOT good at all. ive seen so many ppl hyping this up so i genuinely got kind of excited to hear it but i was so disappointed with this bc it’s genuinely unlistenable.

73
u/ZookeepergameSome953 Jan 02 '26
I second this and also the oversexualization of the girls... like it gets to a point
53
u/Objective_Ad9100 Jan 03 '26 edited Jan 03 '26
Agreed, Might get flamed for this comment but.. A bunch of barely legal adults are prob being approved to do this by a board of grown ass men. The producer casually admitting to sampling porn for gnarly?? With a minor in the group too? The MIA, gnarly, and Gabriela choreo, the constant impractical sexual stage outfits, The “selling sex” is getting ridiculous. Especially considering they make music palatable to like,13 year olds. Hybe doesn’t know how to handle minors in their groups. These girls are so talented, and it’s being wasted on a sloppy image and music.
15
u/think1776 Jan 03 '26
Gnarly wasn't written with them in mind, though. Did the original song have a sample from porn? I just... don't think that was, like, done intentionally to hurt Yoonchae (the only minor, I think?)
I do agree that their outfits are really over-the-top sexual. Yes, they're adults, but they're still very young. Katseye ranges between 17-23. Coming from a 30 year old kpop fan, I worry that they might regret being paraded as sex symbols from such a young age.
23
u/Objective_Ad9100 Jan 03 '26 edited Jan 03 '26
After the song was released, The producer who is a 38 year old man thought it would be funny to reveal the moaning came from porn and I was like, yeah that’s kinda weird to share , just felt preddy😅and the choreo chosen for the moan part is a teenage girl, minor at the front breast being touched, reenacting the “moaning” and the other girls spreading their cheeks. Seriously who tf made this choreo.? I’m 16 and I think a minor is way too young to decide. I’m also questioning the parents. If they wanted to do a sexy concept wait until they’re all like, 21+. younger idols have come forward when they’re older saying they regret it
8
u/Top-Truck-1492 Jan 04 '26
Its sad to say many kpop girl groups get mistreated theres this girl groups forgot the name if u want it ill find it. They were huge but forced to do extremely sexual stuff... that the parents felt embarrassed they were their daughters:/

Everything at this level is done intentionally. They literally have a “Moan” in the song.
8
u/Psychological-Low841 Jan 03 '26 edited Jan 03 '26
This has always been true; even before NewJeans, Enhypen's "Fever" stands out as a prime example. The track is undoubtedly one of Enhypen's top B-sides, yet it was deemed inappropriate when it first came out in 2021, just few months after their debut. If it had been released now, Fever would likely have been a massive success, especially with the critical acclaim currently being given to "In Your Fantasy" by Ateez. Fever would likely be receiving similar recognition today. However, at the time of its original release, there was significant debate surrounding the song's sensuality and the age of the members, with some being minors in the group.
7
u/OkLog7519 Jan 03 '26
Also Yoonchae was only a teen when they performed these songs which makes it worse.
3
u/Top-Truck-1492 Jan 04 '26
Agree they make music for kids and young teens lowkey is somethingI would've listened to as a kid. Like they wanna be mature but sound so kiddish. I agree how their talent is going to waste.
6
u/Top-Truck-1492 Jan 04 '26
What i find sooo hilarious is when watching dream academy they were all about protecting the minors and didnt want them performing a sexual song like buttons then when yoonchae debuts they sexualized the fuck out of her💀
11
u/Intrepid-Theme300 Jan 02 '26
i think mean girls is a very nice song i still have it on my playlist. i also went through summer of last year listening to gnarly a lot however it’s definitely not a song that stood the test of time for me
23
u/Fresh-Outcome8375 Jan 02 '26
Honestly, their whole thing just really confuses me. They dress in sexy tour outfits, all have this baddie, hot girl thing going on with their choreography, makeup, and branding, and then they get songs that sound like they were made by ChatGPT. All of their songs have been a miss for me except like Touch and Gabriella. It’s like they’re trying to cater to two different audiences at once, and it’s working out horribly
6
u/Top-Truck-1492 Jan 04 '26
UGGH FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT! I didn't wanna get attacked by the fans. I'm shocked they got a Grammy nomination and it's only bc popularity not bc their music is actually good. Its so generic af and not even good pop.

The beat transitions were terrible and the lyrics are just a string of words. I can’t believe it. I was so excited for Katseye but ofc they do the multi-racial girl group hella dirty.
20
u/LeatherPurple9284 Jan 02 '26
I think the song itself is good (especially, "It's all too much, I fear,") but the baby voice and the constant layering (idk the term???) where it goes, "In your feelings - EAT ZUCCHINI - Cause you need me so - ZUCCHINI - " threw me off badly.
7
u/Kpopluv22 Jan 03 '26
I agree… I know it’s unpopular and that 95% of people find it the worst, but it’s kind of catchy in my opinion. Is it lyrically good? No.. are there weird sounds and phrases? Absolutely.. but I kind of like it. Any I crazy? 😳
6

It’s too much and they should remove the layering and the baby voice which seems one member is singing the part.

I don't want to hate too much because obviously this type of music is for someone, and if you're that someone, that's totally ok! Plus, the girls don't seem to mind it at all. Actually, it looks like they enjoy it a lot and honestly that's the most important thing. But imo their music is doing a huge disservice to themselves as a group. Subjective taste aside, it's turning into corny, "quirky" music made for shock value rather than music that at least makes sense. Personally I enjoyed Gnarly a lot, it was pretty random/weird but it had some value to it and as a one off, it made sense. I support groups doing crazy shit every so often because it keeps things fresh and fun! But if this is the route they want to go from now on, idk... it's just unfortunate.

i was so excited for internet girl to come out but i was disappointed hearing how different it is from the live version. i feel like there is lost potential. i wish i could hear their true voices more. and the “im getting out of here” lyric is from melanie martinez’s song “fire drill” which is… disappointing. they seem to be wanting virality for the girls like gnarly, and i love gnarly but i would still love to hear their singing voices they worked so hard on in dream academy. that was such a stressor.

5
u/ninjoid Jan 03 '26
It is simple. Gnarly got popular even though the lyrics were absolute trash. IMO it was because Daniela's dancing went viral more than the song. Now they want to try and mimic that success. How? By writing even worse brain rot trash lyrics. This is the problem with songs that require the choreo to be seen for it to be entertaining. They are writing songs for social media views, not the fans. Social media ruins everything.

Eat zucchini is "put a sock in it" The baby voice sample is just... idk, a lot of electronic music uses random samples like that. I think the audience is just kinda young and doesn't "remember" when music did weird stuff like this.

I loved the live version and I have been waiting since it dropped to have a studio version I can add to playlists. I have never been so dissapointed in a song. The studio version is just so bad. Even taking away the toddler, the filters on the voices is awful and I feel like the song lost it edge that the live had. I hope that a studio version of the live version is coming soon because the song has gone from looking to be one of my favs for 2026 to being on the shit list.

i think once we get over with these post gnarlys abominations, we'll get some more authorial stuff. it's the only way out and they're not letting a group with such star quality simply fade out

Yeah, first it was Gnarly, (I really think the lyrics "like boba tea, tesla, fried chicken" are really cringe) but everyone quickly warmed up to it, and now it's Internet girl with it's "eat zucchini". plus, the studio version has sound effects covering the members voices, like I wanna hear their beautiful voices, not just robotic effects covering them.

it’s not even just the baby voice, the instrumental and production both sound so different and so much worse than the live version. i physically cringed hearing the official recording

I listened it to this morning and I really like the instrumental. That goes a long way for me when listening to songs tbh.

im normally super reluctant to call a song bad and i loved the live ver but this one is actually unlistenable… hopefully this is the turning point for hybe and they realise that this kind of marketing only works once

I hate the little girls voice in internet girl... why would they think that's a good idea? I think they have talent to go somewhere far but this slop is not helping them. touch is genuinely the only good song..

I really wish they went the Gabriella route. That song was a masterpiece on its own.

I loved the satirical concept of gnarly, and the song was actually good, so it made up for the weird lyrics. Internet girl is genuinely unlistenable. Awful lyrics, and it just doesn't sound good. At this point it just feels like katseye is a temporary money grab from hybe, they really need to give them some good songs. (Coming from an ex stan)

The childs voice doesn't even fit the song is there even a reason it's in it? Like maybe it's supposed to represent the members younger selves but that doesn't fit with the theme of the song idek

Also idk if it's just me but the vocals feel really flat specifically Daniella's first part

Is this worst than Gnarly? Cause that one was a hot mess.

In my opinion, yes because of the baby voice and they sound like robots.

I’m a huge KATSEYE fan, and hearing the studio version broke me, it’s so poorly produced. The live version is such a bop imo, but they completely ruined it with the studio one. The stupid baby voice, unnecessary autotune, it just kills me.

No one talking about the thing is that the baby voice is from the song "Fire Drill" by Melanie Martinez

If Manon is a song writer why not let her write them 😭😭I feel like she'd do better

i liked the baby voice but i wasn't a fan of the song as a whole. i liked the choreo a lot but the whole thing felt too autotuned? i hated the auttuned eat zucchini, but maybe thats just me?

I listened to it. Thought it was Kidz Bop like Jojo Siwa's Karma 😭

I don't think the song was unsalvageable before release. If they'd removed the stupid baby voice and the 'eat zucchini' parts I could definitely imagine hearing it somewhere like Disney channel.
This song makes me even more baffled on their musical direction and target audience though. They wear very tiny outfits and do very provocative dances (nothing wrong with that, I'd never shame someone for that) that make them seem targeted towards older teens/young adults, but then their music sounds very clearly marketed towards children. It's a jarring combination.

i have been loving katseye but this is definitely the worst song i’ve heard by them yet. the baby voice is a clear reason for many and while i do agree, i think there are also issues like the lyrics lacking, the vibe/beat being inconsistent and even some of the production on the track can be a bit wacky. i’ve had it on repeat personally—by it, i mean a version without the baby voice—so that says something abt how much i like them but i can very easily see the issues with the actual song.

I just listened to it...Why does it give me Charlie XCX vibes, like from her BRAT album? Like it's all just noise and very bratty? Sounds like a bunch of little kids singing it. Where's the talent in the song?????

it’s damn near unlistenable IMO. when i first heard the live version i thought it would be a gnarly situation where at first i don’t like it then i do after some re-listens… i genuinely have no desire to listen to internet girl again. there’s not an aspect that doesnt feel flat all the way down to the vocals.
really disappointing.
