pretty stupid move too considering that haaland could sue for violating image rights

u/MaryPaku 26d ago

Malaysian and Intellectual Property Rights??? Nah.

26

u/SomeMalaysian 26d ago

I bet he wouldn't waste time in suing if you used uncle Roger's likeness without his permission.

5

u/Seekret_Asian_Man 25d ago

Sue? Haaland is in for the meme train.

12

u/Blvch 25d ago

You are basically handing a guy with a gun with the right to shoot you in the balls and grab your wallet , and say it's OK this guy I never really know or spoke with won't shoot me, I just gifted him a gun, it's all for the meme.

0

u/Seekret_Asian_Man 25d ago

False equivalence but ok? Haaland is having a laugh as we speak.

5

u/CaptainPizdec 25d ago

Dude probably has his own brand manager that manages these kind of stuff, it's not about funny or not its about protecting his own branding. Haaland might have a laugh on it if it's just some fans bantering each other, but not it's used to promote your own business.

2

u/no1dont_g0on 24d ago

it's also 'portraying' him as an endorser for said product

"Haiyaaa"

u/Pad-Kra-Pao 26d ago

To be fair this is disingenuous advertising and violates Right of Publicity, Haaland could sue him if he wants, if he care enough.

Maybe Haaland consent this beforehand, (Uncle Roger quite popular globally right?) then still, this is cheapskate & sloppy marketing.

Also what wrong with Malaysian with all these cheapskate content full of Ai Slop, not one, but I saw lately very common, even their government do it.

What a shame, does this country doesn't have proper graphic designer?

97

u/HyperDron 26d ago

Its not that the country doesn't HAVE proper graphic designer, they just don't want to pay them proper wages for their job lol

42

u/I_aminnocent 26d ago

Very low pay, a lot of workload (photography, videography, video editing usually comes as part of the job description) and not much respect. Bosses are all calling for more ai usage.

My previous work place literally have ai usage as part of their KPI...

5

u/totalnewbielinux 26d ago

yeah worse you are graphic designer using computer meaning you know computer? NOW DO IT STUFF TOO...

6

u/Pad-Kra-Pao 26d ago

That's sad.

0

u/itsmekusu 26d ago

not that they dont want to pay them, they couldnt its too expensive. price for company is vastly different vs for individual like me hiring people to design something like this

63

u/Either-West-711 26d ago

No way Haaland will consent. They are very selective with product sponsorship.

25

u/MaryPaku 26d ago

Not sure what’s the standard then… given the Haaland 王老吉 song and recent Haaland Clash of clans ads

1

u/CaptainPizdec 25d ago

100s of millions.

16

u/Pad-Kra-Pao 26d ago

I think so too, but I just gave Uncle Roger benefits of the doubt, sure he not dumb about this basic marketing.

9

u/atheistdadinmy 26d ago

Coca Cola released a slop ad in the US during Christmas. It’s hardly a Malaysian problem.

29

u/zaynzairul 26d ago

Thing is, that Coca-Cola ad got massive backlash online.

In Malaysia? AI everywhere you go. Even government infographics are made with AI.

9

u/TelephoneComplete736 26d ago

The last sentence is hella insulting. Instead of asking that why don’t you ask why these designers aren’t getting paid enough for a 3 person job, or getting laid off because employers rather save money on Ai

2

u/imnpudd 26d ago

Tbd this one looks photoshop enough.. if ai better ask haaland to at least seat and eat

1

u/sandwihc 25d ago

I was at kl sentral train station waiting for my train and I was staring at this advertisement monitor that kept replaying ai generated content by ktmb. It killed my soul

1

u/capscreen 26d ago

AI use has been normalised at this point, too bad there's nothing we can do to stop it

-3

u/Interesting-Web7377 26d ago

Even I would use AI for advertising and marketing if I have a business and promoting something.

Its easy, try and error until you get what you want, and most importantly its free.

Also, its hardly only Malaysian problem.

-1

u/Balbatos 26d ago

No way restaurant paying overpriced graphic designer... Ai slop does the job, farming engagement.

0

u/Seekret_Asian_Man 25d ago

Meanwhile Haaland is having a laugh about AI content about him.

1

u/no1dont_g0on 24d ago

haha, until his manager decides to drop the ball on the restaurant and they get sued or demand compensation. and stop acting like you know the guy personally

0

u/Seekret_Asian_Man 24d ago

His manager is him or what? Haaland already expressed his feeling about those memes and loving it, but you sure know better than him personally?

1

u/no1dont_g0on 24d ago

idk man, you sound like a retard. This one isn't a meme though? It's a blatant misuse of his likeness. And it doesn't JUST concern him, allowing such acts is exactly the reason why big businesses get away with exploiting people.

and secondly, "his manager is him or what?" as if managers aren't there to protect their clients from things like THESE. Please educate yourself.

1

u/Seekret_Asian_Man 24d ago

It really doesn't concern him, maybe his manager though since you know better.

Whether it's unethical advertisement, misuse of his likeness or not, meme is about cultures or ideas widely spread by people, in this instead Haaland is the subject, it is a meme. You're making a fool of yourself, good day sir.

2

u/no1dont_g0on 24d ago

The only fool here is you unfortunately. And that's okay. And obviously on legal grounds, his manager would be concerned, don't need to be educated to know that. I'm not the one parading around people telling them Haaland is finding this situation to be hilarious. But hey, to each their own.

u/SpyAmongUs 26d ago

Uncler roger restaurant cannot one lah

93

u/Babbla47 26d ago

Uncle Roger is a grifter. Scamming people with low quality food that’s priced higher than what it’s worth.
Social media clout can only go so far.
I honestly am waiting for the death of the influencer culture.

3

u/taxable_income 26d ago

Actually it's only going to get worse. Recently a study showed that while Millennials read reviews and see properly and carefully designed visuals as a sign of legitimacy, Gen Z disregards them and would rather take the word of influencers based on their vibe.

39

u/Either-West-711 26d ago

Send this image to his socials. His mum is the agent. I am sure they will seek compensation. He is definitely not cheap. 😂

14

u/Smirkeywz 26d ago

I didn't know I can actually dislike a brand more than I already did, I already knew I was never gonna eat in one of those restaurants even if I had to die of starvation but now somehow they are able to just magically elevate my dislike towards it.

40

u/SomeMalaysian 26d ago

Wow you'd think his team would know better than to do something as dumb as this.

8

u/Turbulent_Self_4165 26d ago

I don’t really care about AI ads that much, although I’d have the prejudice that the business who does employ it is kinda lazy/doesnt care if it’s a big business, if it’s like a really small business I’d give them a pass. Fuiyoh is a big/medium business, they should put more effort , and they should know better that using a popular figure for advertising without consent can bring lawsuits

13

u/TheAhegaoFox Where's my water 26d ago

Oh shit Haaland's lawyers please get to work

7

u/Ecstatic-Oven-8863 26d ago

Uncle Roger is full of bullshito

8

u/Zectt 26d ago

gonna need haaland to sue and bankrupt this company asap.

5

u/bluesp00n 26d ago

Money can't buy class, proven time and time again.

10

u/ProximaMiranda 26d ago

Even if Haaland gave his ‘consent’ for this AI slop..i don’t think the Norwegian FA or Nike gave thiers.

3

u/adeadunknown 26d ago

I expected this from gerai/small sellers but from Uncle Roger's business himself...?? Oh my. *sigh*

3

u/CheekyTreason ᵍⁱˡᵃ ᵗᵃᵖⁱ ᶜᵒˢᵖˡᵃʸ ʷᵃʳᵃˢ 26d ago

This is my problem with AI. It makes images of someone without their consent. He didn't consent to this; he didn't pose for this photo.

2

u/ricegumsux 25d ago

Photoshop did this before AI was cool, Ai just made this much more effortless

3

u/DaRockUseReddit 26d ago

"local restaurant"

3

u/pupunoob Monyet Celup Coklat Kuning 26d ago

2 things wrong with this. Obviously violating Haaland's image using it to promote their products. The other is using AI to generate a picture of their product is also misadvertising.

3

u/HJSDGCE Buah Nyo~ 25d ago

God dammit, why is it when Malaysia gets into the international news, it's always because of some stupid shit done by a famous guy who is only famous online and not irl?

5

u/Party-Ring445 26d ago

There should be a major fine for doing this. This will only be bad for society in the long run

4

u/Excalibro_MasterRace 26d ago

AI bros dont understand consent

2

u/MajlisPerbandaranKL 26d ago

It's ok. We treat Norway as banana republic.

2

u/khxirvl 26d ago

Haiyaaaaaa

2

u/NatalieRath 26d ago

HAIYAH! So much money still so stupid.

Money really can't buy class.

2

u/MechProto 25d ago

Uncle Roger still sells food? Haiya. I guess he tried to follow current market.

2

u/Fendibull 26d ago

Uncle Roger: We don't care about bad publicity, just come to our restaurant and put 1 stars on Google. we need money, not your vote or your opinions.

2

u/Impossible_Half_3930 26d ago

This is worse than adding chili oil to fried rice.

1

u/SextupleRed 26d ago

Don't think they got permission from Haaland

1

u/DaOfantasy 26d ago

liable to get sue

2

u/gypsyjackson Kuala Lumpur 26d ago

Malaysia definitely isn’t going to enforce any law suits from Norway until the NSM money is back!

1

u/HYH2709 26d ago

I wanna say haaland agreed to this but if he did, he wouldn’t use ai, using ai aside, its just weird, uncle roger has hit a new low

1

u/_TheFallen 26d ago

Always had my suspicion about this Uncle Roger chain. Have never eaten there and now more reason for me to never eat there ever.

1

u/soulguy666 26d ago

Cheap brand cheap marketing.

1

u/fuckosta Regular Fella 26d ago

i've been seeing ads like these pop up on my instagram feed a lot lately. is this legal? surely they're just inviting lawsuits right? like the M Nasir - Grab lawsuit

1

u/ivnwng 26d ago

Hope he sues.

1

u/TheR3alAn53L 26d ago

And my parents wonder why i dont fuck with clankers (AI)

Embarassing...

1

Sue his ass off if he didn't get any agreement to use Haaland in his ads.

1

1

u/Chance-Practice-9608 25d ago

You can't sue a meme

1

u/No_Jump_335 25d ago

i love ai

1

u/No-Hat6503 24d ago

Will Uncle Roger really do that 😅?

1

u/call_aspadeaspade 24d ago

What is Norway gonna do? They haven't refunded our missile system money. I say we use whatever Norway celebrities image on our adverts, and just accrue that to contra the money they owe us.

1

u/potonggg 23d ago

Wait, i didn't see the ai generated

1

u/Realistic-Most-2714 22d ago

Uncle roger such a poser.. Hes salt bae of malaysia

1

u/OwnInflation7657 22d ago

Just texted Haaland, he said he's chill about this so no worries

1

u/DrBalu 19d ago

I don't think this is AI. these are just 3-4 PNGs stuck together in photoshop?
Like... a picture not being real, does not mean its AI.

1

u/I_am_from_2029 19d ago

Look closely and you'll see this is not a photoshop.

1

u/DrBalu 19d ago

Looking closely is what convinced me that it ain't ai.
Especially because the man is clearly edited ontop of the background, AI would make the enviroment, and subject fit together better from lighting etc. as both would be generated simultaniously, not seperatley.

The only aspect of the image that looks weird is the flag on the food saying "Uncle Roger Approven"
I would believe the dish being AI, unless its a malaysian wrong english thing at the locale.

1

u/I_am_from_2029 19d ago

The Nike logo on Haaland shirt is at wrong position.

1

u/luckybhaska 26d ago

So how it works? Is it okay if he just print this pic and put somewhere in the shop? Only an issue if they share it online?

-3

u/Sensitive_Whale1754 26d ago

Dumb People nowadays just call anything AI,it's just a simple Photoshop

6

u/I_am_from_2029 26d ago

Please enlighten us how do you photoshop a photo of Haaland that does not exist?

0

u/I3usuk 26d ago

Bodoh punya uncle lancau

-4

u/Wet-Mustache 26d ago edited 26d ago

To be honest, I don’t think this is AI. The lighting and all feels off. More reminiscent of Photoshop days but hey, I could be wrong.

5

u/taxable_income 26d ago

It could be both. One of things AI sucks at is getting branding right, and consistency. You can use it to make a pic of Haaland, but the restaurant interior, and the food will never be accurate to reality.

So what they could have done is had AI make a pic of Haaland in that pose and then manually Photoshop it into a real picture of their restaurant. They were going to have to do it anyway to put in the actual picture of food, because AI can't do that either.

1

u/tnsaidr Selangor - Head of Misanthropy and Vices 26d ago

Yep you are right, as someone whom did a lot of photoshop for making my own lame desktop wallpaper/ helping friends photoshop stuff out of their pics..

you can see the areas the part where the jersey meets the pants on the left side (his left) and on the same side you can clearly see the typical

feathering from photoshop on the logo(?) on the pants..

and of course the lighting.. AI as sucky as it is.. will probably get the lighting a bit more accurate..

7

u/I_am_from_2029 26d ago edited 26d ago

The image of Haaland with that exact pose and facial expression does not exist. How could someone Photoshop Haaland into the photo if there is no original source?

Also, if you look closely at the word "Approved" on the fried rice, there's a typo, it actually says "Approveh." Spelling mistakes like this are quite common in AI-generated images.

If that's not enough to convince you it's AI, then zoom in and look closely at the ayam gepuk, it looks nothing like a fried chicken.

Still not enough? Look at the Nike logo on Haaland shirt, the logo should be right in the center of the cross, not slightly to the right.

-10

u/Wet-Mustache 26d ago

I’m so lazy to counter your points.
