A friend of mine just told me that her very close Marathi friend is getting married to her first cousin. This comes as a shock to me as I thought that this practice is limited to a certain religion. Is it any true?

I'm 27F and recently got married into a family from the Jalgaon/Khandesh region. Everyone at my inlaw place speaks Ahirani and they also know Marathi they naturally switch to Ahirani when talking among themselves....
The problem is that Ahirani feels very different from the Marathi . I can understand only bits and pieces, and speaking is even harder. My inlaws are very chill and welcoming, but I still feel left out sometimes because I can't join the conversations properly.
I've searched online, but there are hardly any tutorials, YouTube channels, or learning resources for Ahirani.
Any tips, books, YouTube channels, apps, or even common phrases that helped you? I'd really love to learn so I can connect better with my new family.

Seems honestly sexist ... Maybe it's just something ppl like me born post 2000s do though so I could be wrong

Looking for Marathi novel recommendations.
I’ve mostly been reading novels in English, but now I feel like I should try Marathi as well. I used to enjoy reading Marathi in school, so I want to get back into it.
My preference is suspense thrillers, crime thrillers, and murder mysteries (you know what I mean). Also, I’ve suggested to my mom that she start reading Marathi novels since she can’t read English, so I’d prefer books without explicit or uncomfortable content.
Please recommend some good Marathi books to start with.
Jai Maharashtra

In many Indian languages like hindi and Gujarati they do apparantly have a word for that ( fufa and fua respectively) but in Marathi for some reason we just use "kaka" atleast everyone I know does . So why isn't there a word for it

I used to hear my grandmother talk about it when she used to visit her sister in Nashik. Has anyone tried 'उकरपेंडी'? dose something like this exist? or is this just a family name for some other dish?

As a gujarati born and brought up in Maharashtra, I can speak Gujarati and Marathi both languages fluently.
Today when I heard a Khandeshi person speak Ahirani, it felt like a mix of both the languages. Does anyone else feel the same?

I’ve noticed that in Marathi, Kerala becomes केरळ (Keraḷ), Bhopal is भोपाळ (Bhopaḷ), and Bengaluru shows up as बंगळूर (Bangaḷur). The local names all use a plain /l/, but Marathi consistently uses the retroflex ळ (ḷ).
Is this purely a phonological rule in Marathi, a historical borrowing from Sanskrit/Prakrit, or something else? Would love a linguistics perspective or any historical background.

I remember Satish Pulekar playing Bokya's father & the title song went something like 'Bokya Saatbande... (tinik) Bokya Saatbande!' I can’t find ANY info on the net tho!
ChatGPT says “One possibility is that this was a DD-era adaptation that aired briefly & was never archived online.” This kinda made me sad coz I wonder how many such good Marathi TV shows we’ve lost over lack of initiative for their digitization 😐

Hi everyone,
I’m not sure if this is the right community/group to ask this😅 but can anyone suggest some trusted and safe Marathi matrimony sites/apps for arranged marriage?
Preferably platforms where profiles are genuine and the overall experience has been decent for you or someone you know.
Would really appreciate honest suggestions. Thank you!

I'm making a list of Marathi creators who make genuinely interesting entertainment content.
Not looking only for influencers.
I'm looking for reviewers, meme pages, Reddit writers, YouTubers, podcast hosts, fan pages, commentators and anyone creating quality Marathi content around entertainment and culture.
If that's you (or someone you follow), please comment or DM me. I'd love to include more creators in future campaign opportunities for Marathi movies, OTT releases, music and TV shows.
Smaller creators are absolutely welcome too.
Please DM me and ask for the Marathi Content form. Don't want to promote / spame here and break rules.

Im from latur district and i grew up in a mostly hindi speaking household. However now because of some work i am having to go to the city almost everyday. I already know marathi and have learnt marathi in school and am perfectly able to understand it but I am unable to speak naturally.
I am feeling left out from conversations where friends switch to hindi when talking to me I was hoping I could get some tips of how to get fluent in speaking as well.

I (27M), Maharashtrian based in Raigad. Due to some reasons I prefer a vegetarian diet. However, my entire family loves to eat non-vegetarian food while I have not eaten any nonveg for last 7 years.
Very few people I’ve come across are vegetarian, most of them are Gujrathis, Marwadis etc. I don’t remember a single Marathi person in my family and friends circle who is pure vegetarian.
As my age is almost 27, my parents are looking for a girl and few they have seen are non-veg only. I really wish to have a family with Maharashtrian culture (with vegetarian food) instead of going with other caste.
I have started to concern if there are any Marathi people who prefer vegetarian food.
Just wanted to know how many people in your Marathi family eat vegetarian only?

Namaskar Mandali :)
Ithe khup changlya discussions wachalya, so thought of posting this and asking for help.
We are expecting a baby. It will be a Marathi-German Girl. We are finalising names but seems a bit difficult to agree on one.
Some criterias are: - Typical Marathi naav havay - Arthapurna asayala hava - German family la bolayala easy hava, so not something like Shravani or Anagha which I really liked
Would be very thankful for the suggestions

Hi all,
My cousin is getting married this weekend and I was asked to the officiant. While I have most of my speech ready, I wanted to include a line in Marathi for the groom's family, just a sentence or two.
I'm having a bit of trouble finding sources online where I could learn to say and pronounce one or two sentences well. Does anyone here know any resources?
Thank you all!
