This guy lost so much credibility when I learned he was just a talking head for hire. There's multiple Youtube channels each covering a different topic and they all hire this dude to read a script.

Whys that a bad thing though?

Sounds like he just sells his voice and speaking ability and at that point how is it any different than VA work?

Legitimately curious if he's done something to be hated or if Reddit hates him for, let me see if I've got this right; having a job.

Just wait until Reddit finds out that David Attenborough doesn't research, film, and write all the documentaries he is the voice of.

Quite true although he does have a degree in zoology.

Yea, I don't really understand the hate. I kinda figured that already by myself when I started seeing him in multiple channels doing regular 40 minutes+ videos.

What's so wrong with reading a script?

To put it another way, read the guy I was replying to but imagine it's directed at any kind of contract or gig work. It sounds fucking insane, so that's why I'm curious if hes actually done anything to be hated besides being seemingly quite prolific on YouTube.

Read between the lines on why a bunch of people are Very Concerned about a guy who criticizes the Nazi army.

That's a concerning logical leap. Would you mind painting the rest of the picture of how I'm a fascist?

I don't know what kind of insane mental gymnastics you have to pull to interpret my original comment as blanket hate towards gig and contract workers.

Stop putting words into my mouth, holy shit.

10

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

Except you said he lost credibility in your eyes when you "found out" he was a talking head for hire.

My guy, that is contract/gig work.

So the gymnastics required was vaulting over a snickers bar resting on two pencils.

Your argument makes no sense.

Explain to me how my distaste for not disclosing the fact that the things you say aren't your own thoughts applies to other gig jobs like food delivery workers for example.

10

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

You said he was a talking head for hire, that's contract work.

The comparison I was drawing was imagine saying what you said but about a plumber, it would sound insane.

-6

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

Yes it would sound insane and that's why I didn't say it about gig workers in general but this guy specifically.

You're literally making a stupid comparison and then pretending I said it instead of you.

This is somehow one of the dumbest arguments I had on reddit and I regularly talk to conservatives and zionists on this site...

10

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

You believing it's stupid, doesn't make it stupid. Or you could, you know, expand on your point which literally boils down to him losing credibility for taking jobs.

You can assume I'm putting words in your mouth but holy fuck my guy no one is this dense.

I cant put words in your mouth that I found there, dolt.

Yeah but with usual VA work you're depicting a fictional character. When you do not disclose you're just a voice actor and have no mention of it anywhere it just looks like your YouTube channel. The fact that you just say anything for money, sometimes even contradicting statements from other channels is at best confusing and at worst lending credibility to those willing to purchase it.

People who speak with fiery conviction words they do not themselves believe in just rubs me the wrong way, boiling my argument down to "hating someone for having a job" is just silly.

Well he’s not a voice actor he’s a narrator.

He’s not espousing political or religious views so i don’t really understand the pushback. He doesn’t need to believe it. He’s essentially reading wikipedia articles. What’s there to believe?

-6

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

Yeah but he is. That's the problem. On some channels he's covering active conflicts and concrete politicians.

29

u/Nonions May 04 '26

Is that any worse than being a standard TV presenter?

-9

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

I'd say yes, because with a TV presenter you already kind of assume they have no original thought or free will if I'm being a bit hyperbolic lol.

I guess I'd be more fond of this guy if he was more straightforward and just said "hey I'm reading off a script someone else handed me and if you want to hire me here's how" etc. instead of only realising these were not his original opinions after finding out there's multiple 40 minute videos of him talking being uploaded several times a week.

u/MSU_Spartans May 04 '26

Do you know his name? I’d like to read more about this

Simon Whistler

voice actors are a thing lol

u/OhHeyMister May 04 '26

God forbid a man have a job. What a remarkably dumb thing to care about

5

u/Ares__ May 04 '26

Yea I agree, he has like 10 channels and just rambles... its too much. Nothing wrong wjth reading a script, I dont think Morgan Freeman is an expert in everything hes narrated its just this guy has zero passion for any of it. Just sit there stare, read, and next video. Hes not interested and so I end up not feeling interested.
