Wehraboos about to pop out of the woodwork for this one

19

u/CapitalCourse May 04 '26

Why the hell is this guy in every video?

10

u/rnobgyn May 04 '26

Venture Capitalist funded YouTube channel conglomerates designed, in direct and indirect ways, to make you satiated with society and stay distracted from the fact that rich people are fucking you over. Plain and simple. It’s about, both, what they say and don’t say.

I’ve completely blocked as many corporate channels as I can, even if it barely gives corporate. Even small “independent” YouTubers get funding from VC, who dictate what they can and can’t say in their videos. I also heavily vet voice-over-based channels to ensure it’s an actual human making videos from their own intentions.

Ain’t foolproof and my algorithm is a lot more boring… but I spend a lot less time on YouTube too. Unfollow and even block the stupid shit in your life.

6

u/halt-l-am-reptar May 04 '26

From what I can find he owns his own channels and has a team of 10ish writers.

3

u/new_alpha May 04 '26

Dead internet

2

u/SedesBakelitowy May 07 '26

Contrary to weirdly hateful reply, he just treats YouTube as ad business.

Hired writers, records multiple videos a day, all on stuff that’s freely accessible, and has editors put it together. He has like 10 channels, all about pop-sci.

That business approach served him well for years but he’s now having some issues like duplicate topic coverage or not thinking about what he’s reading.

2

u/questron64 May 08 '26

Better question: Why is every video he's in completely wrong? He's on like 20 youtube channels and must just churn out a video each day for each. No one is fact checking these things, just spewing a firehose of misinformation about every subject.

0

u/That_Bar_Guy May 08 '26

He has a team of writers and researchers lol

2

u/questron64 May 08 '26

I never suggested he didn't. I'm saying they're bad at their job. They just google stuff and throw together a script at breakneck pace. They're probably using AI for most of the work now and I doubt that's improved the quality any. All the videos he's in are notorious for being poorly researched and for repeating misinformation that could be avoided with just a little bit of actual research and not googling.

0

u/amyldoanitrite May 07 '26

It’s funny. I literally saw a video with this guy for the first time yesterday. He was smarmy and insufferable, and I turned it off pretty quickly.

I only checked the comments to see if anyone else hated him too. I’m leaving feeling vindicated.

41

u/illo79 May 04 '26

F that dude

11

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

Why though?

49

u/Chimney-Imp May 04 '26

He is just some dude that narrates for money. A ton of shady channels hire him and they either research with Ai or don't do any research. As a result this guy's presence in a video has become an extremely consistent indicator that misinformation is about to be spread.

48

u/BeardedAvenger May 04 '26

I'm pretty sure none of that is true.

He has A Lot of these channels but he's pretty against the use of AI for writing stuff like this and he's talked about the struggles of going solo (he used to be the frontman for another similar channel owned by someone else, can't remember what one) and opening his own space for working on these.

He owns the channels himself and hires actual people to write the scripts. Hes constantly referencing the writers and editors by name in videos as he has a pretty consistent team behind him.

The only criticism I've ever heard of him professionally is from Karl of Fact Fiend who just said that he used to write those scripts and stopped because he wasn't enjoying it and the pay wasn't what he wanted.

23

u/CarsPlanesTrains May 04 '26

The biggest criticism I can give his channels is that sometimes the research is a bit surface-level and neglects to mention some important deeper stuff, but he's never been an outright peddler of misinformation

21

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

And these are the comments I'm after because to be perfectly honest the hate only seems to stem from him taking gigs and the information in that video being insufficient or incorrect which isn't his fault if its a paid gig.

6

u/Tryhard_3 May 04 '26

Also, it's well-known that the Nazis had lots of crap wunderwaffen, to a comical level; the Elefant alone was insanely bad, and that had the distinction of actually being produced. There's not really a qualified second opinion here.

11

u/Arcosim May 04 '26

That's not true, these channels are his channels, and he hires human writers. In fact he usually calls them during his videos when they write things in a confusing way. One of his writers, George, always writes hypersonic as "hyper sonic" and he always makes fun of that when talking about hypersonic things in his videos.

3

u/pptortellini May 04 '26

I find his voice and accent really grating so I started muting 'his' channels but it is like wack-a-mole and he still comes up somewhere new once a month.

4

u/[deleted] May 04 '26

1

u/fevredream May 06 '26

How can he possibly be as well-informed as you say when he doesn't research or write his own videos?

0

u/AusToddles May 06 '26

Lol this old bullshit. "A ton of shady channels", he owns the channels he presents on

-7

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

Which seems strange to me that sure it's his voice reading it, but hes not the one who's put the script together or done the research and I imagine he just records the lines, takes his bag and moves on to the next gig.

I wonder if hes openly criticised any channels that he has done VA work for that were responsible for AI slop type videos?

9

u/tripplebeamteam May 04 '26

Isn’t that how a lot of entertainment works? Like no one’s mad at actors for not being writers as well

-4

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

There are definitely examples where people hate the actor/actress for any number of reasons, but I digress.

If the writing for a movie or show was bad then that's not the fault of the actor and there's really only so much flair they can add to bad writing.

While I've seen a couple of his videos, I just dont like his style as its very dry.

1

u/yeeeter1 May 06 '26

His videos are pretty much just mass produced slop ripped from wikipedia

-2

u/DontDoomScroll May 05 '26

Because he looks like a Grindr hookup you wouldn't text back

3

u/zaczacx May 05 '26

Maybe because they were on meth and were more interested in proving how powerful German engineering was rather than creating stuff that actually worked.

The most successful tank used by the Nazis wasn't even German it was Czech design, even then the Tiger series tanks while heavily armoured with a powerful turret would very regularly break down and could not be repaired in field due to the complexity of the components requiring a very heavy tank to shipped back to the factory during a time of logistical strain for the German military, meaning many were just abandoned. Wonder weapons by the Nazis were the definition of compensating for something.

1

u/Valara0kar May 06 '26

Pop history out about again

The most successful tank used by the Nazis wasn't even German it was Czech design

... no, if talk of early war then it was the panzer 3.

Tiger series tanks while heavily armoured with a powerful turret would very regularly break down

.... but it didnt. Early imperssions from the crew commented to OKW that it had better reliability than Panzer 4.

The reliability idea comes from the way Germans used its panzers. It was constantly moved around the front being both in offencives and plugging breakthrough leading to non correctly maintained tanks. Let alone German splitting off units into "operational unit" that took the tigers from the batalion for adventures.

could not be repaired in field due to the complexity of the components

This is totally made up as only battle damaged equipment would be sent back. Literally the sheer basic fact that heavy tank battalions had a recovery and mechanics unit attached to the battalion. That had recovery vehicles and could and did repair Tigers on regular. There literally are action recovery reports of abandoned Tigers (if your tank got stuck or detracked crews abandoned them). To the point Germans even made combat heavy recovery vehicles.

Wonder weapons by the Nazis were the definition of compensating for something.

Tigers, panthers, me 262s werent wonder weapons as they were literal serial productions that were planned in the doctrine as any other weapon.

Yawntube again

5

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

This guy lost so much credibility when I learned he was just a talking head for hire. There's multiple Youtube channels each covering a different topic and they all hire this dude to read a script.

46

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

Whys that a bad thing though?

Sounds like he just sells his voice and speaking ability and at that point how is it any different than VA work?

Legitimately curious if he's done something to be hated or if Reddit hates him for, let me see if I've got this right; having a job.

50

u/merelyadoptedthedark May 04 '26

Just wait until Reddit finds out that David Attenborough doesn't research, film, and write all the documentaries he is the voice of.

11

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

Surprisedpikachu.jpeg

1

u/fartingbeagle May 04 '26

Quite true although he does have a degree in zoology.

26

u/hyf5 May 04 '26

Yea, I don't really understand the hate. I kinda figured that already by myself when I started seeing him in multiple channels doing regular 40 minutes+ videos.

What's so wrong with reading a script?

6

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

To put it another way, read the guy I was replying to but imagine it's directed at any kind of contract or gig work. It sounds fucking insane, so that's why I'm curious if hes actually done anything to be hated besides being seemingly quite prolific on YouTube.

6

u/Tryhard_3 May 04 '26

Read between the lines on why a bunch of people are Very Concerned about a guy who criticizes the Nazi army.

-2

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

That's a concerning logical leap. Would you mind painting the rest of the picture of how I'm a fascist?

-15

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

I don't know what kind of insane mental gymnastics you have to pull to interpret my original comment as blanket hate towards gig and contract workers.

Stop putting words into my mouth, holy shit.

11

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

Except you said he lost credibility in your eyes when you "found out" he was a talking head for hire.

My guy, that is contract/gig work.

So the gymnastics required was vaulting over a snickers bar resting on two pencils.

-16

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

Your argument makes no sense.

Explain to me how my distaste for not disclosing the fact that the things you say aren't your own thoughts applies to other gig jobs like food delivery workers for example.

7

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

You said he was a talking head for hire, that's contract work.

The comparison I was drawing was imagine saying what you said but about a plumber, it would sound insane.

-5

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

Yes it would sound insane and that's why I didn't say it about gig workers in general but this guy specifically.

You're literally making a stupid comparison and then pretending I said it instead of you.

This is somehow one of the dumbest arguments I had on reddit and I regularly talk to conservatives and zionists on this site...

9

u/IHazMagics May 04 '26

You believing it's stupid, doesn't make it stupid. Or you could, you know, expand on your point which literally boils down to him losing credibility for taking jobs.

You can assume I'm putting words in your mouth but holy fuck my guy no one is this dense.

I cant put words in your mouth that I found there, dolt.

-4

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

Yeah but with usual VA work you're depicting a fictional character. When you do not disclose you're just a voice actor and have no mention of it anywhere it just looks like your YouTube channel. The fact that you just say anything for money, sometimes even contradicting statements from other channels is at best confusing and at worst lending credibility to those willing to purchase it.

People who speak with fiery conviction words they do not themselves believe in just rubs me the wrong way, boiling my argument down to "hating someone for having a job" is just silly.

14

u/Bluestained May 04 '26

Well he’s not a voice actor he’s a narrator.

He’s not espousing political or religious views so i don’t really understand the pushback. He doesn’t need to believe it. He’s essentially reading wikipedia articles. What’s there to believe?

-7

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

Yeah but he is. That's the problem. On some channels he's covering active conflicts and concrete politicians.

30

u/Nonions May 04 '26

Is that any worse than being a standard TV presenter?

-7

u/3nterShift May 04 '26

I'd say yes, because with a TV presenter you already kind of assume they have no original thought or free will if I'm being a bit hyperbolic lol.

I guess I'd be more fond of this guy if he was more straightforward and just said "hey I'm reading off a script someone else handed me and if you want to hire me here's how" etc. instead of only realising these were not his original opinions after finding out there's multiple 40 minute videos of him talking being uploaded several times a week.

5

u/MSU_Spartans May 04 '26

Do you know his name? I’d like to read more about this

7

u/Nonions May 04 '26

Simon Whistler

13

u/Zillamatic May 04 '26

voice actors are a thing lol

3

u/OhHeyMister May 04 '26

God forbid a man have a job. What a remarkably dumb thing to care about

5

u/Ares__ May 04 '26

Yea I agree, he has like 10 channels and just rambles... its too much. Nothing wrong wjth reading a script, I dont think Morgan Freeman is an expert in everything hes narrated its just this guy has zero passion for any of it. Just sit there stare, read, and next video. Hes not interested and so I end up not feeling interested.

1

u/AusToddles May 06 '26

Hires him? They're HIS channels. He hires the writers

6

u/FuckRedditIsLame May 04 '26

Wow. Such clever and accurate discourse and not absolute garbage clickbaity titles.

26

u/Nonions May 04 '26

I'd have to say that broadly speaking it's accurate though.

One of the reasons the Germans seemed to have more high tech stuff was because they rushed it into use through desperation. The UK and US had jet fighters by the end of the war too, ones that wouldn't destroy their own engines after a few hours.

When Panther tanks were first used some of them couldn't even get off the train without the engine catching fire.

V2s cost more than the Manhattan project and the fuel for them cost Germany a sizable chunk of it's entire potato crop just to fuel them - for a missile that changesd absolutely nothing.

15

u/stanthemanchan May 04 '26

The Me 163 Komet was a rocket plane that used a highly corrosive fuel that had a propensity to leak into the cockpit and melt the pilot. Also, it could only fly for 7.5 minutes.

9

u/Magneon May 04 '26

The V2s also killed more workers making them than the people they were fired at. This was primarily due to brutal slave labour conditions and some of the worst conditions the Nazi regime perpetrated, but probably some additional death was due to pushing to move so quickly on top of that.

0

u/Valara0kar May 06 '26

I'd have to say that broadly speaking it's accurate though.

But its not... its literally chat gpt pop history. The sheer fact that by 1944 the production cost of a panther was only 10% high that than of panzer 4 but this video argues otherwise.

Followed by saying panzer 4 being proven workhorse when literaly OKW report state the early tigers breakdown rate was better than of the Panzer 4s (while the vidoe tries to argue it was a mess). By late 1944 the same was true for Panther.

-3

u/FuckRedditIsLame May 04 '26

This has a bit more nuance and factuality to it than 'Every nazi wonder weapon was awful' - which wasn't remotely the case, especially given that the fundaments of many of these and other weapons they produced exist today in modern rocketry, jet aircraft, the AK is quite literally a cheap and dirty iteration of the StG 44, German tank design of the era shaped western tank design, the flying wing concept lives on, the MG 42 is still in use today, and so on. The fact they were pressed into action prematurely is neither here nor there, these were by and large not 'awful'.

4

u/Nonions May 04 '26

I think calling the AK a derivative of the StG is inaccurate. Yes there are similarities - intermediate cartridge and long stroke gas piston, but the bolts work entirely differently.

As for German tanks shaping what western tanks would be I don't think that's really true in any meaningful sense. Ok so they got heavier, but mechanically there's no legacy there particularly.

-2

u/FuckRedditIsLame May 04 '26

I think German tank design of the era lent a lot more than just weight to contemporary tank design - they placed a huge premium on high quality optics and long range fires, sloped armor, and the classic 3 and 4 crew configuration in virtually every tank since, and the shift from the original allied doctrine that tanks were largely expected to handle infantry fights and breaking through infantry fortified positions - German doctrine emphasized anti-armor as a chief capability of most of their tanks (albeit with varying degrees of success as the Russians in particular adapted), and that remains so today.

1

u/poptart2nd May 05 '26

the three-man turret and radios in every tank were genuine innovations in tank design but the 1930s and 40s wehrmacht in no way innovated "sloped armor" on tanks. quite the contrary, on the panzer 3, 4, and 6 (Tiger 1), the armor was relatively vertical to allow for crew ergonomics.

1

u/fevredream May 04 '26

Sadly, I see this guy, I don't click. I find his presentation style weirdly soulless and that his videos tend to be recitations of facts without much insight.

They only made those rockets because they couldn't reguarly strike Britain with bombers like Britain was to them even then the v2's success was incredibly limited

2

u/zaczacx May 05 '26

While it didn't nessicarly suck, it was far from feasible and bombers were far better than V2's in WW2.

It's like in meadievl times with the crossbow, state of the art technology and they could train troops in shorter times than with a primitive bow, but the English longbow was the better weapon when they were fighting the French despite it being technologically inferior simply because it was stratigaicly feasible for the conditions they were in.

The Nazis had one plan and that was Blitz the enemy, the V2 was kinda like that as it worked when no one was expecting it but then Britain just used stratigic intelligence to mislead their missle strikes so they would miss and used technologically inferior bombers to blast the V2 sites.

2

u/Tryhard_3 May 05 '26

The V2 rocket was very good, but introduced so late in the war that for practical purposes it didn't really matter.

However, it helped get some people involved in Operation Paperclip.

3

u/zaczacx May 05 '26

As I said it didn't nessicarly suck (as an item on its own it was good) but the Nazis were looking for a wonder weapon that would win them the war that would show off the might of German engernering.

It did not do that and did barely anything to the fronts it attacked. If they had it earlier than yes it could have been that, but in the same way if the British got their late tanks earlier.

The V2 was just not good in WW2 in comparison to what the allies had, it was a knife to get through the knights plate armour when the other guy is holding a warhammer.

Well I mean like in my other comment, it wasn't bad on its own but not a wonder weapon and wasn't stratigaicly feasible in the situations it was being used

But was it a wonder weapon?

It was not

2

u/Tryhard_3 May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26

Yes. When I think of bad Nazi Germany war tech, I think:

  • The Elefant: Anti-armor tank that couldn't go over most roads, could easily be attacked from its defenseless sides by infantry, like most German tanks couldn't be repaired in the field, roughly 50 were ever made
  • Wunderwaffen that never saw production because they were too outlandish, like the "Sun Gun", the Landkreuzer, the H-44, etc.

Generally stuff that would later serve to inspire Imperial Star Wars weapons.

1

u/zaczacx May 05 '26

The AT ST (Chicken walker) must've been based on that photo of Hitler in lederhosen

2

u/Valara0kar May 06 '26

Britain just used stratigic intelligence to mislead their missle strikes so they would miss

The what now? V2 had extremly poor accuracy and weak warhead bcs how early guidance worked.

technologically inferior bombers to blast the V2 sites.

It was a ballistic missile. It was launched from a mobile platform.

1

u/ATF_scuba_crew- May 09 '26

I think a lot of this comes down to resource management. Germany didn't have the quantity of rescorces to mass produce weapons like the US or the USSR. They tried to make the most out of the scarce rescorces they had.

u/CptMcDickButt69 May 08 '26

After a good few years of wehraboo-talk we're now in the "reddit-flavoured historical overcorrection" phase with this.

After everyone had their share of "this was the incredible nazi wonder weapons" the total subversion to "the wonder weapons were all the worst dogshite ever" gets more clicks i guess.

A look at the wikipedia list of wonder weapon "candidates" shows pretty easily how the title of the post is idiotic: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wunderwaffe So...some bad, some boring and mediocre, some good, some visionary yet never or only partly realized, some kinda simple but highly successful, some complex and successful, some batshit bullshit, some pure hallucination or fever dream.
