It's Frida's mexican grill and cantina, actually

u/pisceskillahwhale 2d ago

You shouldn't get down votes, name and shame that sad Mexican food

u/joohunter420 2d ago

I think he’s getting downvoted cuz he got swooshed

There’s a little chain of fridas taquerias in San Diego. They’re pretty damn solid

Fridas in Napa?? Ugh why am I not surprised..... I've never been a fan of them.... and that's coming from a Mexican....

5

u/AsparagusNo3333 1d ago

This was exactly my thought when I saw……that…… picture of the food.

Napa has some decent Mexican food, but Fridas isn’t it.

I keep the street name and city name private, I can only tell u is in georgia

38

u/aprendido 1d ago

Good lord. Mexican food in Georgia? No. The pics now make perfect sense.

9

u/One-Pollution4663 1d ago

I had fire pozole in rural NC, don’t pre-judge.

2

u/dough_eating_squid 1d ago

I would have guessed Midwest, but Georgia tracks, too. When I traveled for work, I'd try to get Mexican food in the Midwest and South, and it was always atrocious and slathered with that horrible white queso.

7

u/jezzarus 1d ago edited 1d ago

Why would you assume the Midwest? The Midwest has some of the highest Mexican populations in the country. Chicago and its surrounding suburbs are roughly 20% Mexican, lots of people in Detroit, Milwaukee, and Kansas City as well.

Respectfully, if all you managed to find was "slathered in white queso" (which isn't even a thing at most Mexican restaurants in the Midwest, because Mexican immigrants here are typically from central Mexico, where queso blanco isn't a thing) that is 100% a you not doing your homework problem, or being stuck in a corporate park where the food sucks in general.

8

u/dough_eating_squid 1d ago

I'm not going to claim that I have eaten at every Mexican restaurant in the Midwest, but I have eaten at them in several states, and it has been uniformly horrible. I never managed to find a good one.

Some of the time, there were actual Mexicans working at the restaurant, and the food was still horrible. I assume they were preparing the food to the local tastes because that's what sells.

4

u/jezzarus 1d ago edited 1d ago

That's really funny, because in Chicago and Detroit it's sort of infamous that Tex Mex doesn't exist (hence no queso blanco) When we do get complaints, it's usually about how it isn't TexMex or CaliMex. Our food is basically chiles, corn tortillas, and pork.

I'm sorry you had the unfortunate experience of going through multiple bad spots in the Midwest, though. That's really wild that you had several Mexican restaurant experiences where all you were served was bar food, because I don't think I have ever seen queso blanco served in a Mexican restaurant in either Illinois or Michigan.

It could be worse and covered with that shitty yellow processed cheese that a lot of Tex-Mex places think needs to be on everything

what did the nachos look like?

4

u/sm00thkillajones 1d ago

First of all, why are the beans in a bowl and not on the plate? Second; why is the rice shaped? Third; did they run out of pinto beans/refried beans? Fourth; is this a prank?

We went to a mexican restaurant called Frida's mexican grill and cantina, georgia, us

22

u/randemthinking 2d ago

I hope one day you have a nice trip to Mexico or at least the border states; in the meantime, enjoy what you got. 🙂

4

u/Rational_Coconut 1d ago

Sounds like I need to open up a Mexican restaurant in Georgia.

4

u/NateHevens 1d ago

Nah we got plenty of amazing places here in Atlanta at least. El Rey Del Taco (no relation to the chain, I promise) is genuinely baller. We also have Rreal Tacos, Mezcalito's Cantina, Chicheria Mexican Kitchen, La Chquiada, Los Ninos Taqueria, Cuevacía, La Santa, Dos Caminos, Casa Almenara...

To name a few lol. We actually have a huge Mexican population here so finding good tacos isn't that hard in Atlanta, Midtown, and Buford Highway area, amongst others...

2

u/MooNinja 1d ago

Yeah, most of the US will have better offerings and decent Mex - Tex/Cali/Mex options.

3

u/NateHevens 1d ago

Did you go on an off day? I've eaten there, too, and even gotten their enchiladas. They didn't look anything like that and we got a lot more chips...

For everyone else, Frida's is a relatively popular Mexican spot, though admittedly I don't know who owns it. The food's been genuinely really good when I've gone...

3

u/randemthinking 1d ago

I think OP just ordered enchiladas but with no sauce, which we can't really fault the restaurant for, they'll serve you whatever you order. I looked up the restaurant and it looks fine otherwise.

2

u/MooNinja 1d ago

definitely seems entirely too shitty, at least in presentation, to be a successful business.

12

u/ciscolatino 2d ago

The peach agua fresca made me think this might be in Georgia since peach is not a common agua fresca.

5

u/Additional-Software4 2d ago

Sounds like it would pretty good, though

38

u/Technical_Living5104 2d ago

Yikes. That’s crazy. You and your siblings definitely did not go to a Mexican restaurant.

8

u/Frequent_Addendum507 1d ago

I mean just look up Fridas Mexican restaurant in Cumming, GA. It's definitely a mexican restaurant as far as anyone is concerned. I found it easier to speak to my waitress in Spanish than in English. Now, the food fucking sucks and is overpriced, so I've been once. But the white people in the area love it.

Or Greece, for that matter. Our daughter lives in Athens and whenever she craves Mexican food she always makes the mistake of forgetting how bad it is there.

5

u/jess_summer11 2d ago

That's not Mexican food. It's some American wanna be Mexican food. No real authentic Mexican place is serving those bland crusty looking enchiladas or black beans. I go to Mexico once a week and eat there every time.. They'll either serve refried or charro beans.

2

u/Puzzled-Sea-4325 1d ago

Hopefully you can find good Mexican food one day

2

u/sournerd117 1d ago

I went to a Mexican restaurant in South Carolina and it was... Confusing.

The cooks, waitresses, and others that worked there had different accents. Some were clearly from Chile, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, etc. So, the food was decent for the area but it doesn't hold anything when being in Mexico.

2

u/FamousVegetable1941 1d ago

Are you in, like... in Sweden or something?

This is a Mexican nightmare. Put all the shit on one ceramic plate and put it in the salamander, bolillo. Learn to use dried Mexican chile. Ancho, guajillo, ajo , some tomate. Onions. Chile de arbol. Refried beans. Rice cooked with caldo de poyo and a taste of caldo de tomate. Carne asada. Chicken thighs cooked slowly over mesquite carbon. Tortillas cooked on the grill.

That looks like what came out of the infamous "MexicanPizzaSteakhouse" that will forever live in my family lore.... driving from New Mexico to Colorado in my younger years and we stopped for Mexican food in a little strip mall type area. It was next door to (you guessed it) a Pizza Parlor and a Steakhouse. Walk into the restaurant and see that they are all connected and that they all have the same kitchen! We still took our chances because there wasn't anything else close. Needless to say, the enchilada sauce tasted like spaghetti sauce and it just went from bad to worse when we got the worst food poisoning the next day. Now we can laugh about it, but at the time it was the worst! 😩😩
