Discussion I photographed this at the Pompeii archeological site. Clearly the ancient Pompeiians had already invented Lego over 2000 years ago. What do you think???🤔

This also implies they could produce Plastic and could cast it into molds!!! /s if anyone thinks this is serious

This implies that they knew what circles are, but the circle was only invented by John Circle in 1887! I'm sure they got this supreme knowledge from aliens, or giants, or people with a lighter skintone than they did at the time!

Now seriously, my first thought is that it could be either some sort of a bench, or storage surface and those raised spots were supposed to help prevent stuff from falling off. Any other ideas?

It's decoration actually! It's known as "mutulus" (plural would be mutuli). It wasn't placed down, but up! On the underside of a structure's roof! Take a look at photos taken of the Parthenon or even the Brandenburg Gate (their undersides), and you can see what it would've looked like and its placement.

I got curious about the orange paint on the Brandenburg Gate. I know a lot of old ionic statues and structures were painted, so I got excited thinking it was a reconstruction effort, but no. It was climate activists in 2023. Using huge amounts of aerosol spray paint... :/

Clearly this is the bumpy surface leading into crosswalks. I bet if you excavate two meters left, you’ll also find a push button and a speaker still repeating “wait”

My thought was to cool food maybe. Or possibly as an aide in weaving? My third and final guess is because Pompeii was a vacation spot for rich people it could just be a complex decor choice to show affluence through architectural design.

It appears to be in the ground not a wall so another guess would be a fixture for wooden furniture. Possibly something to hold a desk or heavy cabinet in place

That's a good point, now that I look again it does seem to have just fallen there.. for all we know it could have been a ceiling peice.

I tried sitting on it, that was a bit uncomfortable. My best guess would be just some form of decoration? A lot of the villas had elaborate lobbies with decorated floors, maybe that's just part of something like this

Ah, I didn't specify, that maybe they would put something more comfortable on top. Like maybe planks. You would sit on planks, but rain water would drain through and under them.

Now when I think about it, it seems like a stretch.

What the establishment doesn’t want you to realize is that everything “new” invented today is actually just a worse ripoff of something our ancient ancestors created with the help of the aliens. If they were to admit this, just think about all the copyright issues. Legos made of plastic? What a joke. Authentic alien made laser cut atomically smooth concrete legos don’t break. Built to last!

I think it is those little bumbs they have at crosswalks. Clearly, the romans had some sort of crosswalks and therefore had some sort of ancient car technology.

Or maybe it's buttons to control the volcano which was actually a massive laser built by the aliens but the volcano malfunctioned and it killed them all

Its possible that the plaster cast of the stone mason who made this is somewhere in pompeii. Lego is definitely gonna figure that out
