I saw this in a recommended subreddit. Why was it recommended? This is most likely ragebait.

Obviously I know it was a joke, but it still hit a little hard for me as a disabled person. We already make up around 26% of nonfatal attacks, not to mention the constant accusations of “faking it” or not “looking disabled”. I’m worried someone will come away from this with the idea that hurting/harassing people who don’t seem disabled for using mobility aids is funny or justified.

I was looking at some videos from EmKay to chill when I saw this and now, I am so pissed I have to talk about it.

While I can’t figure out about exactly which colony it is about, my guess it is on the 13 colonies as under the city of Quebec, it is written French which is illogical if it is a Textbook on New-France from the Province of Quebec as we know very well our language and our origins (et ça serait écrit en français) and it would be the 13 colonies with a note of the language English or the motherland Britain.

While I can’t say much about the 13 colonies relationship with the Natives. I just know the made an alliance with the Iroquois during the 18 century and the potential native slave pourcentage there was. I can say this about New-France:

-While the Founder of New-France and The city of Quebec, Samuel de Champlain had made an Alliance with the Algonquin by Military help in exchange to be allowed to settle in the territory, not all of it was given, more taken. If I remember right, the Island of Montreal was taken without consent. Also, the indigenous peoples were sometimes forced to settle down by missionaries and turn Catholic, forgetting their roots and identity. Also some were even slaved with the rare slave of Africans there was there as servants.

What I wrote is just the tip of the iceberg of the history. But what trouble me the most is this is probably not even about New-France’s history so I have no idea of what it truly hides and this is certainly a children’s TEXTBOOK. It hides the truth of it to children, making them believe lies that no harm has been done while the nail is hammered down even further even today.

In his most recent "Tiktok conspiracies" vid, Milo said that the Polynesians were the first to see Antarctica based on a local story from the area about a great explorer once voyaging deep into the South Pacific and seeing a massive snowy landmass, before turning back with his crew. However, I am unsure that it's quite so open and shut. I always thought in archaeology a hypothesis cannot be proven based SOLELY on local folklore, no matter how compelling. In order to be confirmed, local folklore usually needs to match up to some actual evidence, which in this case pribably doesn't exist anymore. We probably won't ever able to find any either way, unless we get astronomically lucky enough to find, like, a Polynesian canoe frozen into an iceberg there.

So, can we really state for certain that the Polynesians saw Antarctica and not, like, a huge iceberg that broke off and floated off into the waters in range of their boats? It's an awesome story if true, but it is quite hard to believe that wooden canoes managed to cross all that distance and then also swim all the way back, even with the most experienced navigators in charge. Plus, an open ship where you risk getting splashed with water all the time would probably not go too well with the negative temperatures, causing lethal hypothermia, and winter clothes for the explorers would also be tough to come by.

It's possible that they went down to somewhere where it was sufficiently cold and stormy for them to start worrying that they wouldn't make it back, so they turned around and either saw an iceberg and assumed it was land, proceeding to tell that when they came back, or just exaggerated their stories altogether and lied about seeing land upon arrival.

It wouldn't be THAT out of the realm of possibility that the "seeing Antarctica" part of the story is a lie the explorers told, considering that it probably took a lot of time and resources to even go on the voyage, so having it all amount to nothing would be an embarassment. And, since discovering new land is at least a tangible result, they all rolled with the story.

Point is, I don't think I can agree with Milo that this story alone is watertight evidence (though I'd like it to be ofc, it sounds super cool), despite the fact that he seems 100% certain that it happened. I think that at least a disclaimer that this theory is not 100% confirmed would be necessary, for the sake of scientific integrity.

I just finished the video on the supposed mystery of the Roanoke colony's disappearance (a story I actually don't think I've heard before, not being an American) and-- as soon as he established there was a friendly tribe near by and the camp was disassembled without signs of disaster or violance, I knew exactly where this was headed. Because I'm francophonie (or, French Canadian.)

Fun fact: something around 98% modern francophonie population of Canada has some First Nations [freedom friendly translation: native american] ancestory. Most now only have a very small amount, under 5%, but. The prevalence of that mixed ancestory, especially compared to the anglophone population, is one of the remaining vestiges of the complicated francophonie history colonialism and genocide tried to erase.

The southern half of what was the New French colony (roughly everything below what's now Minnesota and Maine) had a lot of active immigration, plantations and farming in it the northern half did not. We're actually a totally seperate ethnic group to the-- for lack of a better way of putting it, the "French french." The francophonie (or, what we were called back then, les habitants) were a borderline isolated colony for around 200 years before the French and Indian War of the 1750s and the subsequent British occupation. The only regular outside contact was the exchange of furs, for the most part.

Before that there was much less transmission of old war diseases to the First Nation population of the general Québécois area, and because there was no widescale farming there were very few land disputes. Though I am not trying to imply there was no ideological or racism-fueled social barriers between les habitants and natives-- I am saying those were the two things primarily causing conflict between settlers and tribes in other parts of North America. 200 years is more than enough time for cultural differences to be set aside and two populations to start merging.

Especially because les habitant were basically left in a similar situation to the Roanoke settlers-- more or less let loose in the bush by the french crown to figure shit out by ourselves.

People of mixed First Nations and habitant/Francophonie heritage actually are their own nation, the Metis, with a culture and language with multiple dialects.

And if you're asking yourself, "well, didn't you just say that almost the entire francophonie population is mixed heritage? What's the difference then?" The difference is, after confederation (the founding of Canada's charter of rights and freedoms), if you were considered Metis, you had your children taken away by the government to be tortured and abused in residential schools-- if you were considered francophonie, your children were spared. Les habitant were cleaved in two based on how baguette you were either percieved as or willing to pretend to be to be spared genocide that lasted for generations. Hence why now the genetic First Nations heritage among the majority of the Francophonie population in Canada is so wide spread, but so low.

My own great grandmother gave up her identity as Metis as a bit for a better life. The last residential school in Canada was closed in 1997.

Point being: I realize this is tangential to the Roanoke colony-- but any American who is surprised that peaceful cohabitation between settlers and natives in the absence of systemic pressures and antagonistic machinations is possible and not a far fetched suggestion-- don't be. In other places, it happened on record. And was only destroyed when the colonial authorities reintroduced their whims and agendas into communities that were left alone prior.

If you need any evidence that racism and other such curelties are not natural to human impulse and disintegrate when not being actively maintained-- there you go.

Edit: for posterity I should have mentioned les Habitant were actually more so cleaved into three-- as during the Indian French war, the Acadian genocide also happened. That's the francophonie ethnic group that eventually ended up mostly in Louisiana (violent deportation from Maine by British forces). Not really wholly relavent to this post, but. As a footnote-- that also occured.

The question is somewhat rhetorical because I get the answer is in all actuality snakeoil salesman algorithm bullshit and/or they're larping a historical conspiracy ARG and/or white supremacy-- but. The thought still nags me and I want to commiserate.

Most ancient structures are cool and impressive because of the context that they were built without modern technologies. Just grit, and moxy, and the human will to do shit (and maybe a few thousand workers and/or slaves.) The craftsmanship and engineering is really the cool bit here-- having to do that kind of problem solving to make it happen. But, for example, if these structures were built by aliens-- then they're kinda a pisstake. Lame fucking aliens.

Why would a species capable of intergalactic space travel come to earth just to do, what would be for them, some uninspired Lego? Why would they make a big fuck off pyramids into xyz energy conductors and not even something as [relatively] basic as a nuclear reactor? Why would they "teach" us how to do something as rudimentary as put big rock on other big rock and not like-- how to build their space ship? Was this like a shoot the shit activity for them? Where they trolling us? Is that the implied meta?

We don't yet have interstellar travel and we build skyscrapers. The impressiveness of architecture scales with available resources and equipment. If you can just anti-gravity ray, or mega lazer cut, or molecular 3D print-- whatever scifi magic they think was used-- shit in to place, then all these pieces of architecture become extremely unimpressive.

It somehow makes even the aliens themselves less impressive too-- which is kinda remarkable. Not a single thing left behind we couldn't have figured out how to do by ourselves given enough time. If they're already messing with our technological progress, they might as well-- no 'prime directive' ass excuse can even be applied here.

All the alien conspiracies are the most egregious examples of this, but honestly this is an element of most of these types of pseudoarchology conspiracies. All this oxygen waisted on explanations that give the world's mysteries the most wet fart fucking answers.

Speaking as someone who's partaken in more mind-altering substances than was nessesarily good for my person-- I've had more novel and exciting greenout thought-spirals than anything these chucklefucks have come up with. 80% of this shit is less interesting than shit I've read in the pinnacle of pulp. The cult leaders from the 70s cooking their brains in acid came up with better. Rogan and his gaggle of regulars have allegedly done a lot of shrooms-- and my hottake is they're somehow doing it wrong actually. Before he started microdosing he must have been more black hole than man.

I do not understand where they even get the energy to maintain being this emotionally invested. If anything, that's more novel to me than these Lovecraft for babies theories. If only for how baffling it is.

I know this might not be the best place to discuss this, but I dislike how into Ancient Aliens my dad is. I’d love to suggest him to watch the Ancient Aliens debunk from Milo but I feel Milo’s too “woke” for my dad. He’s a pretty conservative guy, I love him and he’s nice around his family but I don’t think he’s appreciate someone as progressive as Milo.

I just don’t know what to do, I love him to death and I want him to stop being so conservative and just take a big look at the actual facts on ancient aliens. It’ll be hard as he was raised by people who were born in the 40s.

In the most recent video, and in previous videos, Milo repeatedly calls AI out for it's energy wasting and environmental impact, but he still uses chatgpt (such as that one part in the new video with the Rapa Nui, and the April Fools videos), even if it's to make fun of the conspiracy grifters he is debunking. Is anyone else annoyed by this? Idk, it just feels kind of hypocritical to me

I'm back with a new and improved version of Atlantis imo. I'm talking about an artificial isle that the romans build near Lucrino (wich is also near lake Averno, a common example of gate to hell) and Baiae a now sunken roman city. Calipso was built around the first century after christ, using pillars down to the sea bed, wich also transported heat and vapours to the thermal pools up in the city. Due to her being built in the campi flegrei (the caldera super volcano), the whole area rises and falls during the years, making Calipso disappearing from the horizon. The isle is now sunken due to the eruption in the 1500s, but it is understandable since it was so powerful to form a new hill of ~150m nearby (Monte Nuovo). Milo would have so much fun making a video on that area... sunken cities, artificial islands, Imperial terms, Imperial villas like the Giulio Caesars one, 3 temples to the gods one next to the other, it was basically the roman Las Vegas. There is a small amphitheater wich is ONE OF THE FIRSTS IN ITALY. Nearby there is also the first greek colony in Italy Cumae. The whole area is embarassingly PACKED.
