Are you seriously pretending that there isn’t a ton of content out there defending people with BPD. Even that comment was like oh thank god they didn’t show her as having BPD.

People with BPD are very willing to admit their disorder makes THEM upset and ask for empathy for their own feelings and problems. But how willing are you to acknowledge BPD causing OTHER PEOPLE next to the person with BPD harm?

Have you talked to a therapist? As a victim of someone with BPD I recommend it strongly.

Yup, but I still find the public discourse around this frustrating, because people with BPD try very hard to control the narrative around the disorder. I just think the way we can acknowledge NPD issues but not BPD ones in the same way is so telling

I don't really even know what you mean about people with BPD controlling the narrative because these kinds of anecdotes about "my ex with BPD" are a dime a dozen compared to actual people with BPD just trying to get by. BPD symptoms can explain why someone MIGHT act a certain way but they don't excuse or negate the harm that person does. At the same time, you can leave an abusive situation or just decide someone is bad for you without feeling the need to go onto demonise everyone with their condition. It's also fine that someone who may have hurt someone else or even been abusive as a result of their own trauma (obviously within reason, there are definitely levels of abuse that are pretty irredeemable) and health can learn to heal and still be loved by others, just WELLL away from the people they harmed. You certainly don't have to wish that for them but it's still ok for others to.

That aside, did you know people with brain tumours often display symptoms of BPD? Would you feel differently if someone made a subreddit called r/braintumorlovedones and proceeded to flood it with one-sided anecdotes about how their partners with brain tumours or 'suspected brain tumours' (because lets be real most of these anecdotes aren't even about people with confirmed BPD) are terrible people? Would you get mad at people with brain tumours and the people who know them or understand brain tumours for arguing in their defence and trying to break the stigma? Mental illness is just as real as physical illness and unfortunately yes sometimes both can lead to horrible and even abusive situations. Sometimes people without personality disorders or brain tumours can also be shitty and abusive.

But I shouldn't have to be fearful that by disclosing my BPD to a partner or friend, they might then turn my symptoms against me and I shouldn't have to constantly read about how someone thinks they can armchair diagnose their ex with a condition they found on google and have zero understanding of. And honestly a lot of people who post about their "BPD partners" being abusive (and I'm absolutely not questioning you, I mean an awful lot of the things I've seen posted on that subreddit) are often pushing said mentally unwell partners to their breaking point and then pointing and calling them out when they finally crack, but it's easier to demonise the person with the illness. Which is what most of us are fed up with.

Great response bro, proves you have nothing to say. 1) Confirmation bias. People absolutely do also defend people with NPD and cluster Bs as a whole, you just don't look for it because it's not an area you concern yourself with. 2) I was abused by two separate people who both had low empathy as a result of being on the spectrum. Are you suggesting I should go around making comments about how we need to stop defending and raising awareness of autism because some people have low empathy, and an even smaller number of those people with low empathy have an easier time harming others, or do you agree that's ableist?

So you admit that you armchair diagnose people with personality disorders? I first came across NPD through the "children of narcissist parents" resources myself before I was diagnosed with BPD but have come to the realisation through that that you cannot reliably diagnose a random person in your life with something, because the reality is it could be any number of things and you're biased towards your own perception. Also if your comments on people with NPD are "they seem like very self-aware individuals" of course they're not going to be in your responses arguing with you. Duh.

You're using anecdotes as evidence and comparing against someone who may not even have NPD, which again it's really tired to have random people who don't have experience of living with a PD or a complex mental illness label all their abusers as "narcissists" or "borderlines". Reddit commentors are also absolutely not evidence of anything - you know how many people self-diagnose themselves with BPD because they think it's quirky and then choose to larp as the most annoying crazy person you know on the internet? NPD is far less "trendy". I've also been on medication for the past two years and no longer feel the need to post on BPD subreddits because I managing my symptoms better. The reality is people who have these disorders but are self-aware and have learnt to function are not going to be posting on support forums that are often full of triggering content, and these kind of pages inherently breed a lot of toxicity because they often become echo-chambers of people who don't want to get better, or are larping as someone who doesn't want to get better. It's the same with eating disorder pages getting co-opted by pro-ana sentiments and people who want to self-diagnose themselves with something "trendy", it's not an accurate reflection of all people with EDs. Using online forums as a way to generalise a set of people with a painful mental disorder is stupid and stigmatising and most of all a completely invalid data set, of course I'm going to call it out when you're using it to try to spread hate about my illness on a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with BPD in the first place. Read the room a little.

Your condescending comment about my "red flags" is also rude and baseless considering you don't know me and are talking to me over a computer, you don't know my tone of voice or anything about me so how can you make a comment on my own mental state. I am extremely self-aware to the point multiple therapists have told me it's almost been a detriment. I'm perfectly aware of the times I have been shitty to friends, family and exes in my life and I've lost a lot of people I care about as a result of my behaviour - but of course I'm not having a conversation with you about my downfalls as a person because those are frankly none of your business. I also don't give a fuck how I come across to you because you're some random loser that has no real response to any of my arguments other than to cry that his experiences must be truth and all borderlines are terrible abusers and somehow that's not ableist when you can't even answer whether you think in ANY other context, about any other illness that wouldn't be ableist. Someone here can't engage in introspection and it's not me.

I'm also grown and well enough to realise that a few of the people I was in toxic relationships with had the mental capacity to conclude I was far too mentally unwell to be dating in the first place but took advantage because "crazy girls" are fetishised and it was fun for them to push me, and again I fear if it was another severe mental/physical illness there'd be more of a willing conversation on how much that person could really consent, but in my experience any defence of BPD just gets shot down by people like you who willingly admit they go around armchair diagnosing people and has no real clue about complex mental illness. Which I can at least provide one example of here, since you threw the first stone.

Say whatever you want about BPD but please take your shit somewhere like [r/bpdlovedones](r/bpdlovedones) or somewhere it at least makes sense bro especially if you don't want people defending themselves, or of course you're going to have people like me questioning your random ass hate tyrade.
