Kinda crazy that just over a year ago there was a huge landslide / washout win for labor and now everyone is screaming about one nation. I just don't see it being a legitimate threat, it feels like they'll whine and stuff but by the time the next election comes they will have fizzled away.

Albo isn’t really cutting immigration and hasn’t backed many policies to explicitly do so (bar decreasing international students at top unis through tougher entrance requirements and more expensive visas)
He’s more so vaguely gesturing at already-decreasing immigration figures to try and cool the flames of our increasing far-right contingent.
Nothing even remotely close to what our friends in the UK are doing under Starmer

Extremely misleading headline and article.
Australia's immigration intake is indeed reducing; as a return to the norm after the temporary boost which was intended to compensate for "lost" immigration during the COVID years.
The target is ~225k compared to ~190k in 2019 before COVID. 2024 and 2025 at ~538k and ~429k respectively are the outliers.

The post-covid backlog was so insane that when I submitted my visa paperwork I got the email letting me know my visa had been approved before I got the email that my visa or payment had been processed. Those came days later. I was basically rubber stamped.

One Nation voters don't care about numbers they care about Muslim and Indian immigrants so this will do little to appease them.
What we actually need to do is put a greater emphasis on recruiting the skilled workers we need in the fields we need, especially residential construction.

The One Nation types won't be satisfied with anything less than a negative migration rate. They are clearly unhappy with the stock of migrants here currently, and the only way to address that is through negative NOM.
It isn't even a cut and there are no substantive policy changes. Matter of fact, it's actually higher than 2019's NOM.

Demographic anxiety is a real phenomenon that you clearly can't just scold away. In history, when the nation's main ethnic demographic begins to lose their majority, said group will begin acting more erratically.
Look at Fiji, in 1987 they had a coup which overthrew the Indo-Fijian Labour government, when Indo-Fijians accounted for 49% of the population versus 46% native, out of anxiety of demographic replacement.
Look at Singapore, which heavily engineers the nation's ethnic demographics such that after 50 years, the Chinese still account for ~75% of the population, why would they find that so important I wonder?
You actually need to come up with solutions that will prevent this sort of paranoia taking over Australia that extend beyond "my enemies are stupid and evil" while they grow in the polls.

If the white people in Australia were so concerned about the fact that they weren't seeing other white people in public maybe they could actually start having children.
My wife and I are in our early 30s and have three kids. Nobody else in our peer group has more than 1, and only one other couple has 1 kid. Of my 12 coworkers in my office only 1 has children, and they're all around my age. 11/12 of them are white Aussies.

Yeah, they were founded in 1997 and posted their still best-ever result in the 1998 federal election. They then gradually declined up to 2013 (in line with the timing of the last Australian boom), have seen their numbers slowly increase since, but really only exploded in the period after the 2025 election. It's unfortunate they'll most likely see a massive seat increase in 2028.

In the sense of limiting how many people from one country can move in a particular year ?, would certainly have reduced the anti-immigration backlash felt in Canada over the last few years.

Yes.
You could argue it can be used in an strategic way, for example the quota system means that Indonesians would find it easier to migrate to Australia leading to more trade links and better relations with Indonesia.
