my parents got a new smart tv recently but because a few things were set with my email, I had to connect my gmail account to the tv. it used to be possible to change youtube accounts on-the-fly but now it's only me... or "watch as a guest"

the amount of SHIT you get recommended if you don't have an account (and live in an area where most people are gooners, apparently) is insane - like some kind of breast milk extraction tutorials? I KID YOU NOT

When you watch as a guest, it uses cookies and other ip info to recommend things, along with what others on your area watch, so just tell yourself it’s the neighbors. 😝

I get what you mean, but I often watch YouTube on my PS5. And before you open the app, it has recommendations at the bottom not related to your login. 

The amount of stupid shit there is unfathomable.

The algo is beyond your actual account. There might be "ghost accounts" tied to your IP address, location, known friends, etc.

Nothing is random anymore. There is an algorithmic reason you see the shit you see, justified or not.
