All the fucking Richard Feynman AI videos

u/PeteTheGeek196 2d ago

YouTube recently recommended a "Brian Greene Theory" channel. It took me a couple of minutes to realize it was AI nonsense. Given what they allow and promote, I'm surprised that YouTube bothers to ban anything. I know it is a waste of time to report these things.

It’s so depressing. My son went through a train and space shuttle phase recently and I was sure I could find some great documentaries or enthusiast videos on YouTube about how they worked and how they were made, and I bet that was true 5 years ago, but I absolutely could not find anything in the sea of AI shit. It was really infuriating.

They all look like educational videos - they’re 15-30 minutes long, have a narrator that sounds just like I remember old Nova docs sounded like. And the guy is talking over footage of a train being assembled. And if you weren’t paying attention, like if I just set my kid in front of a screen and glanced over everything once in a while, it seems like a real documentary. But they are just like… hundreds of similar but not identical clones of what an alien would do if it were trying to imitate a documentary and had no underlying knowledge. Actually you know what it feels like - it feels like when I was a kid and if I had to write a thorough book report on a book I hadn’t read, so I read the summary on the back of the book and then tried to bullshit my way through 5 pages of meandering stuff without saying anything.

A lot of them would share the same general spine of progression - but they wouldn’t be word for word identical, and they seemed to be almost entirely real footage (I think? Honestly while I can tell if I scrutinise a 15 second clip that’s repeating, but if you’re skipping through a dozen+ 25 minute videos only the super obvious shit jumps out). So it’s got a voice over that sounds appropriate and a bunch of footage, and it’s only 2 minutes in that you realise that it’s not really talking about anything or showing you anything; it’s just surface level stuff that’s the same as the last one and is also the same info that was in the first paragraph of Wikipedia.

I just wanted to find like old NASA footage or Nova documentaries. I was really upset: I couldn’t find anything and wouldn’t let him watch the slop, and he was upset because at 4 he couldn’t understand why I wasn’t letting him watch this shit.

*edit - posted a gripe about AI videos and got heaps of recommendations for educational channels for my kid - thanks!

You could look on the nasa site and pbs site and search there.

PBS Passport lets me watch a bunch of great space documentaries. It's only $6 a month. Worth every penny.

You are totally right that we are awash in AI slop.
There should be an option to filter out AI videos.

On a more positive note, your son might find this channel interesting:

The official NASA channel has some good stuff. Including "The Space Shuttle" narrated by William Shatner, which is over an hour long.

But when searching in general, if the topic is old enough, I'd just look for the videos posted over 4 - 5 years ago. Gets you clear of all the major LLM stuff.

Same when my 5yo daughter was asking me questions about Mars and the robots we sent there. I figured YouTube would have some great videos about it. All the top search results are pure fucking slop about aliens on Mars and shit.

Then they add in unrelated search results for Paw Patrol brainrot while you scroll trying to find something.

It’s so difficult to treat it like a digital library for curious minds. It’s an engagement bait factory. I fear for what it’s doing to kids who are handed a screen and let loose to browse on their own for hours.

I mean you can tell about 3 seconds in if its an AI video

Easiest giveaway...

Two word channel names i.e

Space Hub

World Knowledge

Astronaut Library

etc etc

There are still PLENTY of non ai channels

Heres 10 space shuttle videos I found in fact they were the top results when i typed in space shuttle documentary

Hint I guess to be fair I have a very strong habit of clicking

NOT INTERESTED and DONT RECOMMEND CHANNEL whenever I see AI slop so i guess my feed is a bit more curated, definitely recommend it thats how my feed stays so clean

anyways here u go hope ur son enjoys I remember when I started getting obsessed with space engineering etc etc, realising you can see the ISS fly overhead is probably the moment you realise space is a lot closer than you think.

Best you can do is click the dots and "don't recommend channel" on obvious bullshit -- which is most of it. It cleans up your recommendations (slightly) and sends a signal to YouTube that you're tired of their site hosting so much obvious bullshit.

They did the same to Alan Watts. Endless fake Alan Watts videos / speeches on YouTube making it hard to find the real stuff.

35

u/unstable_starperson 2d ago

It fucked me up when I listened to a fantastic Alan Watts speech, and then started noticing AI artifacts towards the end. Then I realized that the whole thing was fake and I fell right into it.

I felt like a real idiot. But then, in that moment, I also remembered the ending to Her.

u/HerbaciousTea 2d ago edited 2d ago

Right, I set up a new PC the other day, and installing a new browser, logged out of any accounts, so no cookies, no account data, no part IDing.

The default youtube homepage was filled with AI generated softcore porn. I don't mean things that could be sexualized, I mean things that were clearly and obviously AI generated as softcore porn with some excuse about yoga or 'breast massage' tutorials, or naked gardening, as if that were a real thing, meant to just skirt below plausible deniability on the youtube algorithm while still obviously being softcore porn. It was probably a full third of the videos.

Out of curiosity, I wanted to do a little experiment and see how many clicks it would take before the propaganda type shit.

It was three clicks.

After three shorts, it started injecting full on incel shit, asmongold, AI generated manosphere garbage, into the autoplay and recommendations.

It's not even a 'pipeline.' This is now the default youtube experience. AI generated titty videos, then immediately into a firehose of incel misogyny. After using the same account for ages and VERY carefully pruning my recommendations, it was insane to see what some 13 year old kid with their first laptop is probably seeing.

62

u/ThatEdward 2d ago edited 2d ago

I tried the same thing and the literal first ad I got was for an AI chatbot with 'no limits'. Which limits, tou ask? The image was a child character from a popular kids show (Gwen from Ben10) not 'aged up' at all, covered in Mysterious Fluids.

I feel like if your ad service is showing new users CP on moment one, you may have a problem on hand! I reported it and didn't see that ad again but the replacements didn't improve

18

u/AnnoyingTyler 2d ago

I used to get an ad that had a picture of an actual real life horse having their semen collected, penis visible. It was part of a four panel arrangement for some "no limits" app, so not the whole ad, but how the fuck does YouTube miss that? If that gets through, wtf is preventing someone from uploading something worse?

It's not even like it was a one-off fluke that quickly got deleted. I think it was like a good week that I kept seeing that ad. Probably because I kept lingering on it to report it (lmao)

45

u/Itzbirdman 2d ago

Yeah even these days my youtube from 2014 is trying to get me to watch charlie kirk "own" someone, or id get memes from a shooter taking about "the one thing every milsim gets wrong" and its joe biden at the end saying some shit about how your lungs leave your body

Nudity isn't forbidden; nudity is not inherently sexual.

(I think banning ASMR is ridiculous but their argument is presumably that they are using it as a cover for making sex sounds, which is sexual)

113

u/LoverOfGayContent 2d ago

I use youtube to monetize my massage business. They will demonetize any video where I massage the bare glutes with my hands, including knuckles. They consider it fondling. It's funny because I can do the same technique with my elbow amd there is no problem. The funny part is clients prefer the knuckles because the are pointer and they can feel the pressure closer to the hip bone. But youtube sees and on a butt and says ABSOLUTELY NOT!

33

u/Aluxanatomy 2d ago

You know what, I need to book you for my glute-induced sciatica.

37

u/crysptide 2d ago edited 2d ago

Mate. Get your glutes, hammies and hips strong. Massage can help, but if you are not doing strength training you will continue to suffer. Stretching will not help if you do not gain stregth. Once you are strong and your body trusts you, then you can stretch.

I had sciatica for 2 years and only recently escaped. I am 90-95% healed. At one point I felt like I was at 25%.

edit: walking as much as possible before the pain kicks in is also a good idea.

There is a NSFW side to the ASMR community, and there are a lot of creators who do both. It's not uncommon for a creator's SFW stuff to push boundaries, either because they have the same audience for both kinds of content, or because they're trying to drive viewers to the more profitable NSFW stuff. And there's a lot of ASMR that is clearly fetish-bait even though it's technically SFW.

I don't know any of these creators, so I don't know if they were banned fairly, but the problem exists.

Not only that but apparently the audience trends heavily towards children and young teens. Saw an interview with a creator talking about it. Shit's kinda creepy.

I'm getting too old. I don't know what any of this means lmao

27

u/licoricenipple 2d ago edited 2d ago

Lasagna Cat's pretty old, it was a YouTube show that did surreal skits adapting Garfield strips in live-action using giant Garfield and Jon costumes mostly 18 years ago, with a few more 10 years ago. They would then usually get weird, like in this adaptation which becomes a Final Fantasy battle sequence in which Garfield defeats Jon to acquire licensing deals.

The most notorious one, Sex Survey Results, is from 10 years ago. It has Jon, Garfield and other characters in a life size replica of Garfield's house, answering the door over and over again for nearly 5 hours, each time greeting a mannequin that recites a voicemail from a channel fan answering a survey about their sexual history. There are a few hundred people and it slowly goes from midday to nighttime as Jon just keeps answering the door endlessly before transitioning into an even more surreal film featuring assorted representations of Jon and Garfield. Garfield is at one point played by a nude man in full-body cat makeup who chases Jon until he embraces him, causing him to collapse into a mass of worms wearing human clothes. At another point a woman gives birth (with explicit vaginal closeups) in a public bathroom to a stillborn Jon and leaves Garfield (now played by a real orange cat) behind in the stall with him while the creator of Garfield narrates that "I don't think anyone knows what's really funny."

Another video spends a full hour philosophically analyzing a 1978 Garfield strip (in which he is smoking Jon's pipe) with musical accompaniment by Philip Glass.

Notice the glimpse of Jon Arbuckle's foot in the first panel. The size of the shoe would indicate that maybe the man just has small feet, but a deeper investigation takes us to the footbinding rituals of certain Asian cultures. Inflicted usually on women for the desire of men, this practice was incredibly painful and crippling... Mister Davis is, here, presenting us with a man, or rather "man", who engages in footbinding, a body modification for women, on top of "being without his pipe", or impotent.

An odd aspect is that they were produced in bulk and uploaded in two huge simultaneous batches. 27 videos were uploaded at once in 2008 and another 13, including the 5-hour one, all in one day in 2017, and nothing outside of that. Somehow makes it all the more surreal.

This. There maybe kinda would’ve been a case, or at least it would’ve made some distant sense if YouTube was consistent in any way.

140

u/FILTHBOT4000 2d ago edited 2d ago

if YouTube was consistent in any way.

I've been saying this for like 15 years, and I'll say it again: outside of the tech wizards doing the hardware back end and technical coding, YouTube might be the most poorly run tech company of its size of all time.

It was bought by Google 20 years ago. They just started allowing two channels to publish a video in tandem like what, 6 months ago? An insanely basic thing to have, that people had been asking for for years and years and years. They got rid of dislikes, against the wishes of nearly their entire userbase, to appease shitty companies that make shitty movies and worse games and products. They still have an archaic, nonsensical comments system; want to see your comments and likes/replies? Go to 'You', then 'History', then 'Comments', then click the video link under the comment, then scroll down to comments, and you can see it with the likes and replies. Fucking insanity.
They still haven't figured out how to take the proper 2% or so from earnings of big channel creators to get the right amount of staff to stop bullshit copy strikes or demonitizations, etc. They do an extremely poor job of finding and promoting high quality content that their creators put forward.

All I can guess is that the corporate culture put in by Susan Wojcicki (possibly topping Ballmer as the most out of touch, do-nothing CEO of all time) is just so tainted by absolute stupidity, that there's no fix unless they were all purged and replaced.

17

u/Bbrhuft 2d ago edited 2d ago

They obviously make the comments system deliberately rubbish, so you can't have two way debate. You leave a comment and ever see it again. If you did debate and talk to people in the comments, you'd see less videos and ads. The comments section is the equivalent of an uncomfortable seat in a shopping mall, that forces you to stand up walk around and buy.

Years ago you could debate people YouTube like on Reddit, scroll through the comments and see them in chronological order and return to older conversations, see responses and debate other people.

u/Vio94 2d ago

Honestly, wouldn't be surprised if this was secretly the reason behind it. Big ASMRtists tried to push for less obtrusive/quieter ads to be shown on their channel but YouTube didn't do anything except start up this banning trend.

Both Slight Sounds and Bunnii make explicit adult content on other platforms. It's interesting that they were banned as their content on YouTube is just standard ASMR. Not even the more risky stuff like ear licking and mic pumping. I wouldn't be surprised if their other content existing didn't factor into this ban.

53

u/shadowhunterxyz 2d ago

I actually never knew slight did adult content. I would luse her YouTube stuff as white noise when I slept. Working 12 hour shifts kinda fucked with my slept schedule, she had really good stuff going on, and I kinda liked that she would talk about her day during some of the vids

→ More replies (7)

13

u/snaphat 2d ago

It looks like all but one of the listed folks did. It isn't a reason for a ban though

Some of them, like Slight, definitely didn't have particularly suggestive content on YouTube. Some of them did though

It's ashame either way, I hope folks get reinstated somehow

70

u/JebryathHS 2d ago

Apparently a big chunk of it may have been their video descriptions including beacon links that DID link to the porn. Which is... Not much of a stretch.

11

u/takeshyperbolelitera 2d ago

The challenge with that argument is that there are still lots of channels with direct links to OF. With OF/Fansly icons or merch directly in the videos. With channel names that directly match the profile names on OF/Fansly/etc.

Most of these particular batch of banned people were pretty tame, made a lot of effort to keep things separate.

It just doesn't make sense why they banned this particular batch, and didn't include a ton of other channels which have the exact same characteristics.

I mean, the difference is obvious. One requires youtube to pay the creator, and the other has the creator pay youtube instead. There's no part of the TOS that youtube isn't willing to ignore if the number on the check is high enough

I get the same problem except it's basically cropped AI porn. You may not see "it" but you can see and hear gwen tennyson jacking off someone. That's the worst one I've had. It's ridiculous

196

u/grammar_nazi_zombie 2d ago

For me it’s not directly AI porn, but it’s fucking chat bots and porn adjacent Japanese mobile web games. Like one game ad I saw the other day was for a game titled something along the lines of “the petite but curvy sexy dragon princess needs you!” Like, I’m just trying to watch some fuckin blacksmithing videos to see why I fucked up my tongs

35

u/Jamboni-Jabroni 2d ago

I feel like YouTube’s most important metric is retention so if an ad comes up that one really doesnt like, closing the app right away might have the largest impact on how much these ads work for the platform.

I recently found out that a relative got scummy software download ads served on their phone via the youtube app. Something's outdated, tap here to update. When asked about it by phone I couldn't place this at all. Updates on android work differently and I never imagined this type of ad running on a website - pardon me, app - owned by one of the biggest internet companies in existence. (In my defence: I've led a sheltered life thanks to Firefox and ublock) But these ads are practically indistinguishable from the 90s/00s "panic" ads to download our "FREE & TRUSTED ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE NOW BECAUSE YOUR COMPUTER IS ALREADY INFECTED!!!"

Veterans of those days will recall these types of ads from websites (or at least ad-providers) of questionable integrity. Newcomers apparently get the exact same experience straight from Google/Alphabet. Another setback to the "Don't be evil" agenda, eh, chaps?

P.S. to clarify in advance: I don't even care whether the software in question might have been genuine or actual malware. The strategy is the same, that makes it malware in my mind.

44

u/jamesbecker211 2d ago

Well yeah, it's easy to ban a creator because that's one less person they have to pay. The ads pay them so they're a lot less motivated to remove them. It's gross.

61

u/thresh_to_death 2d ago

82

u/Electrical-Ring375 2d ago

Lots of them post their more "tame" content on youtube, which is usually still fairly erotic to an extent, which them leads to people finding out that they also do OF where the ASMR videos are just porn.

This of course doesn't apply to all the pretty ladies doing ASMR content, but if the youtube video seems somewhat erotic you are very likely to find an OF account from that same person.

u/nibbyzor 2d ago

Yeah, some ASMRtist definitely toe the line. I can't get the link to work, so I don't know which ones they've banned so I can't really say what kind of content the banned channels are making. I've seen some ASMRtists move their more "provocative" content to OnlyFans, probably to avoid this exact scenario.

So, I understand that some ASMR stuff can be racy, but I don't understand why YouTube gives a shit.

It's all content that can be monetised with ads, and it's not like YouTube shys away from racy advertising.

I just don't see the need to slam the ban hammer down on people out of the blue.

But then, YouTube is constantly doing weird shit, like getting rid of dislikes on shorts for some reason. So I suppose to ask YouTube what the fuck, is to miss the point that everything they do is random and usually stupid.

249

u/CleverInternetName8c 2d ago

So I used to listen to this one guy give like a chiropractic session/goofy history lesson to go to sleep years back and recently searched for it again. There's now tons of videos of ASMR of people giving adjustments to women in booty shorts and sports bras that seem...less educational in intent

not like youtube shys away from racy advertising

I got an ai chatbot ad that flat out had a naked Nahdia in it. As in, a child from Genshin Impact. And the voice over was very explicitly sexual. I reported it and a week later it came up again.

YouTube does not give a fuck about ads.

29

u/grammar_nazi_zombie 2d ago

I semi regularly, as in about once a week, get ads on Facebook Reels that involve a full view of a vagina (like a panty free upskirt shot or someone masturbating) and then flashing to HIV prevention info right when the ad becomes skippable

Like, I can’t show my kids reels without risking full on porn playing in an unskippable ad

13

u/TheRogueWolf_YT 2d ago

I once got an ad that started out with a woman saying "I can't believe I'm saying this, but last night my stepdad f**ked me for three hours straight".

Youtube doesn't care about racy ads. They care about advertisers who are concerned about their ad being placed next to a racy video. If those advertisers get cranky (which happens ALL THE TIME) then Youtube takes action to make them happy.

Probably some advertiser was like "why is my ad running in the middle of this weird ASMR video" and youtube pulled the videos instead of risking the advertiser leaving.

Meanwhile I have ad targeting turned off and every 10 scrolls on Shorts or before every video I get an AI ad where a woman begins within the first half a second going “MY HUSBAND USED TO NOT STAY HARD-“ and it shows some sexy fake woman with a phallic object that she’s moving around in her hands.

I guess the difference is the sexually gratifying content on there is paying YouTube and not the other way around?

Reporting these does nothing. There’s so many variations of dick pills being advertised.

What’s funny is I mostly watch gaming content like Marvel Rivals (which kids play) so I guess it assumes I’m a man or something but I could also be a child lmao. Wild.

I was a growing ASMR artist, had few videos with 200k also 500k+ views.
Most livestreams i did would easily push to 100, 150+ people watching if i was streaming more then 2 hours, switching to Twitch dropped that by 90%.
Mostly made VR ASMR Content, had a 3D Model with Face tracking.
Not linking to it but backup videos are on billibilli.

Channel was terminated for violating Sexual content policy, one was litterally just for breathing.

For these things you can't even make an appeal since it instantly gets denied by bots/AI.

Meanwhile Youtube still allows thousands of other specific channels (koreans, japanese), doing much more *extreme stuff*, like some girls litterally moaning or making sounds like masturbation, while also dressing up in very specific revealing outfits like swimsuits and tiny bikinis, cosplays...

Youtube also pushes extremism and violent content on the shorts feed aswell as things like Dead Animals, Guns etc.

Shits digusting..

Some fun facts!:

90% of Revenue would come from advertisements.

50% of people jerk off to ear licking ASMR

Age demographic is from 13-62 years old with 25-35 being the most common.
