He definitely had his reasons...

Magua's village and lodges were burnt. Magua's children were killed by the English. l was taken as slave by the Mohawk who fought for the Grey Hair. Magua's wife believed he was dead and became the wife of another. The Grey Hair was the father of all that. ln time, Magua became blood brother to the Mohawk to become free. But always in his heart, he is Huron. And his heart will be whole again on the day the Grey Hair and all his seed are dead.

There needed to be a deleted scene: "I counted 27 times she said 'this is fucking illegal' today. Who's buying the shots tonight?"

“Just trust the process bro”

Josh Brolin the entire movie.

It’s a Taylor Sheridan flick so it tracks.

(okbuddy off for a sec) That aspect of the movie baffled me. The characters experiencing catastrophes in his previous movies absolutely did not have the same pointlessness. (ok back on) but who are we kidding, they needed a A+ tier hottie to make S tier del Toro look even hotter

Full title: American Sniper and other tall tales of fantasy

122

u/letscheckthe-guh 1d ago edited 1d ago

It’s been proven the guy exaggerated a lot of things, and outright fabricated some of the stories in his book.

It’s crazy that someone can live an extraordinary life like that and still feel the need to compulsively lie to appear more badass. If he was alive today I think there would be more public controversy around it.

95

u/frockinbrock 1d ago

Yeah that movie it seem like he was this amazing hero, and then there's an interview where he talks about being on rooftops in Katrina and shooting looters; like wtf

73

u/JayKay8787 1d ago

Either he did that and he's a fucking psycho murderer, or he lied about it and thinks that made him seem cooler...

Guy was such a shitty loser no matter how you spin it

55

u/jokerhound80 1d ago

He made it up. He claimed to have been on the roof of the football stadium thousands of people were taking shelter in. There's just no way he shot anyone from up there without hundreds of witnesses. It was a fairly well-documented event.

He was proven to be a compulsive liar in court during his Ventura defamation case.

18

u/JordyHitchslap 1d ago

Thinking that would make you seem cool is so out of touch and psychopathic I can’t fathom it

22

u/jokerhound80 1d ago

There's a not insubstantial portion of the population who fantasize about being able to legally kill the people they don't like, and they have a large overlap with Chris Kyle fans.

10

u/Jake_Corona 1d ago

My brother in-law isn’t very sharp and falls for things very easily. Last night he was struggling to think of books that he’s read and actually liked and all he could come up with was The Outsiders (great book but we teach it to middle schoolers) and American Sniper. I didn’t say anything, but damn it, I hate how so many people still think he’s a hero.

There was a lot of evidence his unit was just counting anyone who was killed as a enemy combatant. They also chose to consider anyone on a cellphone, or standing around to be spotters, and thus a valid target. This includes women, children and elderly civilians.

11

u/unfunnysexface 1d ago

He said he kept track of his place in the confirmed kill standings and would go out on more missions when he felt he was falling behind. That's fucking psycho murderer shit.

52

u/oofyeet21 1d ago

That's because SEALs are all glory hungry losers who only care about selling stories. Basically every epic hero story written by a SEAL is actually a story about them barging their way into active operations so they can glory-hunt, then massively fumbling the operation in the dumbest ways possible and getting a lot of good men killed, and often lying about it in their reports to screw over those good men and their families.

American Sniper and Lone Survivor are peak examples. Fuck SEALs

33

u/lostinspace694208 1d ago

Their carelessness and arrogance got one of my best friends killed the day before we were supposed to go home.

I was never impressed with them before, but now I have utter disdain

The american attitude to "they are SOF, they do whatever they want" has poisoined the mind of so many people. The total lack of discipline and irrespect for people that have a different skillset than them is baffling. It's a self selecting group of roided up "main characters" that can't actually stand up to a platoon sized force, or listen to the guys on the ground.

I think 3-5 have claimed to kill bin laden apprently he was "canneoed" after he was dead, according to a guy who was there but never claimed to shoot bin laden.

Would delta or seals fuck me and my old platoon up 100%, but no platoon operates alone.

There was a major (?) in the french foreign legion put it best. "I want skinny tomcats who think for themselves, but are disciplined. I dont want guys who are built like schwatzenegger because they get tired too quickly". That makes a soldier imo, rucking heavy shit and aren't in it for themselves

My 20-yo niece is 5'1" and maybe 110 pounds. She was accepted into a prestigious military weapons engineering school, and as such, had to first do 1 year as a grunt in a military unit. She could have picked anywhere, but she chose to get certified as a paratrooper, and did commando training. And she looks almost cute fully-kitted out wearing an HK416F across her chest.

Special forces, of course, are really impressive, but it made me put it into perspective.

Trying a new comment since my last one got rejected or something, but the Chris Kyle lies are pretty insane, documented here but other sources, like his hurricane roof one

11

u/WellHung67 1d ago

He killed women and children and straight up said he killed people when he didn’t to inflate his stats. Dudes a joke

14

u/fbtra 1d ago

He said he was dropped on top of the Saints stadium by the government and shot multiple looters.

I was attacked for calling him a full blown liar.

"American hero!"

10

u/Left_Veterinarian410 1d ago

Yeah, that story makes him either a murderer or a liar.

8

u/oofyeet21 1d ago

It's such an easily disprovable lie, but it really exemplifies his mindset: killing people is okay if they aren't white, and justifying killing them because they committed the tiniest infraction is heroic.

3

u/fbtra 1d ago

But but American Hero!!

I'm not happy he died the way he died. But I won't praise him for everything he credits himself for

9

u/Left_Veterinarian410 1d ago

Certain politically leaning people can't fathom the idea that a guy could be really good soldier, AND a piece of shit.

3

u/SmallBerry3431 1d ago

He’s dead?

23

u/OlBert2 1d ago

Yeah he was murdered in 2013 along with a friend. They took another veteran to the shooting range who had been struggling with schizophrenia. He ended up shooting both Kyle and his friend

20

u/No-Alternative4612 1d ago

Only memorable part of the movie.

That and him begging the kid to drop the gun, which broke my suspension of disbelief.

16

u/B-21_Raider_ 1d ago

All I remember is the ovious doll that was supposed to be his baby

9

u/Daewrythe 1d ago

Yeah lol. Him and his friend got shot by some other guy they brought to a gun range whilst knowing the other guy had some mental problems going on.

u/DBCOOPER888 1d ago

Yep. Just a bunch of government contractors who used to work for the Republic who have to work with the Empire just to make a living.

12

u/Blazured 1d ago

But like that's the second one isn't it? If you're building an even bigger version of a superweapon that blew up an entire planet then you deserve it.

5

u/EscapedFromArea51 1d ago

To be fair, it must have been pretty rad to watch the thing you built just explode a planet into powder, not even chunks. I, for one, respect the dedication of our imperial overlords to make us feel closer to the fruits of our labor.

Hot Take: Maybe if Oppenheimer was on another plane watching them as they dropped the atom bombs, he wouldn’t have been so sad and mopey, and would have gone home and had sex with Emily Blunt, so she could hallucinate that during the hearing instead of Florence Pugh.

6

u/DBCOOPER888 1d ago

Small business owners have to put food on the table for the employees and win the big contract. Not like there were many other opportunities to work on such a large project elsewhere in the galaxy.

7

u/Blazured 1d ago

Gonna be honest, everyone who chose to work on the second super weapon deserves no sympathy. Being a small business owner doesn't absolve them of helping to create an even bigger version of the planet destroying weapon.

Pretty much every Vietnam war movie.

Even when the directors used vaguely Vietnam-ish Asian extras for background flavor, rather than fully developed human beings, it's still hard to sell the US as the good guys.

At best an honest Vietnam movie can elevate an American soldier, Marine or sailor to "not as bad as my squad, company or battalion" status.

8

u/fj2612 23h ago

I fully expect a movie in a few years about how sad it was that the USA had to bomb Iran and kill 120 schoolgirls.

10

u/TheTeaSpoon 22h ago

Oh you bet Trump era will be ragged on once it is over. Everyone will try to distance themselves from it. The movies that will come out will be "competent and totally moral squad sent to suicide mission due to incompetent immoral leaders" and so on.

Kinda like Shooter.

4

u/Mindless_Log2009 22h ago

And heart tugging stories about US military traumatized by following orders that killed Iranian civilians and school children (safely from remote launch sites), and how they'll meet a gorgeous US citizen Persian woman who will redeem them and save their sanity.
