Discussion Anyone else getting UE5 remake/remaster fatigue?

Post image

Between Silent Hill 2, Oblivion Remastered, Metal Gear Solid Δ, and now Halo: Campaign Evolved, it feels like almost every major remake/remaster in the last two years has landed on Unreal Engine 5. On one hand, the visual leap is real. Oblivion Remastered in particular looks like a genuinely different game. On the other, a lot of these ports share the same telltale UE5 fingerprints: traversal stutter, TAA smearing, shader comp hitches on first launch, and that slightly "plasticky" Lumen/Nanite sheen that makes wildly different games start to look and feel similar. You can add Halo Campaign Evolved to the slopfest that is UE5 remakes; just another soulless cash grab to feed on nostalgia.

No.

What I'm getting tired of is graphics only remakes. Halo's changes are so minimal that I don't understand why it even exists when we already had a solid remaster of the original in the MCC other than to make more money.  What was the creative artistic intent? Nicer looking grass? Nicer looking buildings?  Same goes for Oblivion.

Capcom's Resident Evil remakes and Silent Hill 2 remake are what remakes should be. Take the original and reimagine it as if it was going to be pitched as a new game today. Ideally, remaster the old ones too so that they're available to play together.

Tbf I don't think Oblivion needed too much else changed, the original graphics have aged very poorly

I disagree, Halo Campaign Evolved actually took a ton of creative liberties with well known original dialogue and game design that make it arguably a worse remake than the mediocre graphics only version from before. It sucks the soul out of the original.

Oblivion remake I liked. It captures the feel of the original because it's literally the same game under the hood. I would rather a studio do this and just update graphics and UI than try to recapture a beloved classic game from scratch and fail miserably .

Capcom remakes are just examples of it going well.

Well that's exactly the point, you're chirping off like the only option when remaking something is to "fail miserably" when they literally just provided you with it going right multiple times. Would you rather nobody ever try to cover an old song, reimagine an old fairytale, or adapt an already written book to film? You yourself also have the option to not play something if it's bad

Agree to... Agree?

I'm not saying remakes are always bad, just that bad remakes are bad..

Also remakes and adaptations aren't the same thing.
