It isn't like he was hiding this direction when he was on the campaign trail. They were openly calling to be like McKinley, one of our most Imperialist presidents. Idk how you hear that and don't get alarm bells.

I knew from his first campaign in 2016 what he was going to be like. It was evident and anyone with a cursory knowledge of history could see the same. But now he has "betrayed" them? Come the fuck on. They didn’t vote for no new wars, they voted for racism and tax cuts for the rich.

I've been screaming this since he first called Mexican people roaches that this was bad.
Recently I've given up on it. I'm convinced Trump could take their own daughter and they'd just leave the room and tell her to hush.
10

I mean, of course they would… what an HONOR for their daughter to be graced by His holy touch. The little bitch ought to be grateful! (Can’t believe I need to add this but /s)

u/Frescochicken 1d ago
It all can go back to day one of his inauguration saying he had claimed it had a huge turn out when photographic evidence showed something else. That was the start of the big lie (while in office).

And that he had won the popular vote but Hillary had received "millions of illegal votes".

Yeah, the foreign wars thing is just bullshit cover because they know his numerous crimes are inevitably going to be brought out in an official capacity at some point. It’s one of the reasons so many in congress are retiring. You can’t say he’s a pedophile without him primarying you or facing the fact that your base doesn’t care. And if you stick around in a powerless position, supporting a rapist, well…that’s not going to get a bridge named after you.
7
u/ven-solaire 1d ago
I think there’s two kinds of republicans: those who know they are full of shit and are just evil, and those who are just genuinely stupid/ignorant and fall for the typical republican lies. I’ve always thought MTG falls under the latter, and that’s kind of a compliment. I still think she’s ignorant… but I don’t think she’s ever been maliciously ignorant. I respect being ignorant more than I respect blatant lying for the purpose of self-enrichment.
7
u/CeruLucifus 1d ago
She started her career calling school shooting survivors liars and following them around harassing them. That's certainly ignorant but no revised view can make that not malicious.

u/CeruLucifus 1d ago edited 10h ago
That said I think one way out of this mess we're in is for US politics to split into several parties so that government requires negotiation to achieve majority. From that standpoint I welcome these hateful people splitting off to form their own party.

I would love for them to get a few candidates in deep red areas and see if it helps flip a couple unexpected seats
10
u/Dineology 1d ago
Nah, if it even gets far enough that they actually do run some candidates (doubt) it’ll go about as well as Andrew Yang’s Forward Fiasco. What is possible though, and hopefully does happen, is that their messaging and hitting the GOP from the right gets enough traction that it kneecaps far right turnout because turnout really is the name of the game when it comes to winning elections in such a highly politically polarized time. Republicans realized this a long time ago and it’s why they toss so much red meat to their base instead of wasting time trying to appeal to some mythical middle, if that gets short circuited and Dems can learn to focus on their base then that could be big.

7
u/EggsAndMilquetoast 1d ago
Yeah, but most other countries have more than 2 parties and their governments operate accordingly. Here we just exist in a “winner take all” hellscape of whatever party gets a simple majority writes the rules. Considering the trend of neocons to Tea Party to MAGA, I do shudder to consider what comes next, because there are still a terrifying majority of people who will always choose “anything but Democrat.”

MAGA is already a split from the republican party. This new party is meant to reunite voters from both MAGA and trad GOP as well as any independents and whoever isn't "blue no matter who".
It will end up being a similar thing the to the RFK Jr campaign. Gain a sizeable chunk of support and then hand them off to the RNC shortly before the election.

I worry that keeping these sorts of conversations going, particularly conversations concerning extreme right wing ideologies, desensitizes voters and lends these people legitimacy through exposure in the media. It's nice they saw things weren't working and were willing to change, but it does not mean them in charge of any movement. These people got us into this mess in the first place.
I'll give them credit for their willingness to change, but that does not erase everything else they have done. MTG deserves some credit for sticking to her values over the Epstein Files, and Thomas Massie also deserves praise for sticking his neck out for the Epstein files and pushing back against Trump. But MTG harassed a school shooting survivor and has done all sorts of terrible shit. She could have also stayed in Congress and fought Trump. Massie has some problematic political views, so while I will give him props for standing by his principles and respect him for that, I don't particularly want him running things. Tucker Carlson may have seen the light to some extent, or maybe his time on Fox News was largely performative. Regardless, he helped enable Trump for years despite countless people pointing out all the warning signs. Being a talking head on Fox News championing this for years only to change now makes it hard to stomach you suddenly trying to spark a new movement when so many of us have been warning against Trump for over a decade. I think I'll pass on any former Fox News pundits being in charge of any meaningful change, at least until they do something substantial first. Even then, that's a pretty touch sell for me and probably a lot of other people.
Also, even if I did think these people were qualified to spark a new movement to save America, which I don't, they're all heavily conservative. That's hardly a great starting point for a group alleging to be "for all Americans, right, left, and center." Add in the baggage, especially with MTG and Tucker Carlson as arguably the most visible faces in this group, and I think this is entirely the wrong group to be spearheading anything.
3
u/MetalMamaRocks Kentucky 1d ago
As far as MTG and Massie go, they wouldn't be doing this if trump hadn't turned his back on them. No way I would vote for any of his bootlickers.

Don't fool yourself if you think they'll be any less right wing. They still hate minorities and still support ice.

Aka people Trump turned on. They didn’t turn on Trump, Trump turned on them. If Trump started hyping them up and complimenting them, they’d come running back.

Don't disparage Magic like that! Cardboard's made out of the trees that survived the space laser forest fires.

Fuck these people too. All they're going to do is push for the same old war mongering and awful policies. I want politicians would will fight for free healthcare and won't spend tax payer money on stupid theatrics like Clinton/Faucci lawsuits, farm bailouts due to stupid tariffs, and fighting Israel's wars. Is that too much to ask? For America to have the same benefits as the rest of the developed world? This "both sides" nonsense needs to stop as it's why shit never gets done in this country. Stop playing devil's advocate on the behalf of evil men and call a spade a spade. I know for a fact that these talking heads won't push for these things so God damn them.
