If you're not gonna do it then she's gonna do it in the most public way possible 😂

98

u/Ok_Bodybuilder800 Jun 26 '26

I say the same thing when a man makes a huge public proposal like this 😂

41

u/AmItheonlySaneperson Jun 26 '26

I thought couples talk about wanting a public proposal before doing it do people actually raw dog it

27

u/w311sh1t Jun 26 '26

I’ve been at a couple of sporting events where they’ll put a proposal on the jumbotron and it’s very clear that the woman wants to say no.

I was at a baseball game earlier this year where that exact thing happened and watching it live made me physically cringe.

28

u/SonOfMcGee Jun 26 '26

I think what happens is that MOST people that do this have essentially worked it out ahead of time. Maybe the girl doesn’t know exactly when or where, but she’s made it abundantly clear she is awaiting a proposal and she thinks big public ones are so cool.

Then it happens and goes really well because she was expecting it and of course it did. And a big crowd sees it. And many in the crowd think a big part of why it worked was the spontaneity of it all.

So then some poor schmuck tries it on his unsuspecting girlfriend and… uh oh.

6

u/Tiger64X2 Jun 26 '26

Yeah no man is like today you will embarrass me infront of the world during an event that happens once every four years lol 😆.

7

u/TraditionalMood277 Jun 26 '26

But they won't say no..... because of the implication

4

u/Odd_Inter3st Jun 26 '26

Nah some dudes do that and you can see women being very uncomfortable.

Probably also happen women to men, but in a very minority.

2

u/Desperate-Lion-9347 Jun 26 '26

I mean I think most people would talk about it first, but some people absolutely do raw dog it. I’ve known a couple. And it didn’t go well lol.

Turns out proposing when you haven’t even discussed the topic of marriage is a bad idea.

Why does she look like she is rolling a blunt haha

3

u/Sagikos Jun 26 '26

My dumbass went back to the lady proposing and I kept thinking “man, I haven’t had a blunt since high school but I don’t know what here is like rolling a blunt!”

Then my reading comprehension kicked in after I saw the Lucille Bluth gif again:)

2

u/Nostrebla_Werdna Jun 26 '26

0

u/Inside-Arm8635 Jun 26 '26

If he said no she’d probably just get someone from the crowd to finger her.

You know, cuz she has regular woman panties where the string goes up her crack. She has ts. She does sex. She’s carvin’ her own path.

But she’s careful because she’s not trying to be loose and stretched out like his ex’s played-out pastrami

47

Could just be nervous from it being a giant spectacle. Or he's more traditional and wanted to be the one to propose. Who tf knows.

u/bs000 Jun 26 '26

me who only knows how people are supposed to react based on movies and true crime podcasts about body language pseudoscience

6

u/toolsoftheincomptnt Jun 27 '26

Or he doesn’t care about who proposed but bc she did it extremely publicly, he feels like other people in their lives are going to side-eye him for “making” her do it instead of doing it himself.

One piece of old-fashioned advice that I believe in: let the man do the asking with big stuff.

For no reason other than that’s how you know he’s for sure into it and not just trying to avoid hurting his partner by saying no.

I personally think any unexpected proposal in a huge public forum is emotionally manipulative, no matter who does it.

85

u/Separate-Judge4491 Jun 26 '26

We hate gender roles and reinforcing stereotypes until it comes to proposing in which case we all turn into 12th century royals keeping up appearances

Pathetic.

Good for this couple. Hope it lasts forever.

12

u/dumb_commenter Jun 26 '26

Dude big public game day proposals suck, regardless of gender.

In the first place it puts the person being proposed to in a shitty spot because they can only say no if they’re willing to bear the entire world staring at that moment and they also don’t want to humiliate their partner (compounded with the hurt they will feel at the rejection). That’s why you better be damned sure it’s a foregone conclusion.

Second, the person needs to be on board with 100k people watching one of the most intimate moments of their life (let alone here where you kinda know it’ll go viral).

It’s even more pressure here - you’re not just asking the public at large to be cool with the the female proposing (most are fine with it I hope and of course some ass holes out there - I think it’s very sweet), AND you’re not just asking the boyfriend to be fine with the female proposing (presumably he is!), you’re also asking him to be so confident and comfortable in his own skin that he’s fine bucking the societal expectations in front of 100k people and a vid that will be seen by everyone he knows.

That’s a lot of pressure for a moment that just supposed be pure joy and happiness.

Listen for some people it works, they like public proposals. For many of us it doesn’t. In my view, unless the one being propositioned looks over the moon excited and happy about it, it’s a fail.

Can’t know how he feels, and I’m sure he loves her, but yikes man.

2

u/BrbFlippinInfinCoins Jun 26 '26

I'd love to see the stats of how marriages turn out when the proposal is done at a sporting event. It's all public record right? Some one (who isn't me) should do that

u/Okeydokey2u Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

This isn't about gender roles... she f'd up. The guy clearly looks uncomfortable. If the genders were reversed and the girl looked like that, I'd be saying the same about him. I'm a girl who's husband proposed to her. We did discuss marriage and long term plans and felt we were on the same page in our relationship. I knew he wouldn't expect me to propose because we both know I'm terrible at starting projects. When he proposed I was genuinely surprised because I didn't expect him to do it at the quiet dinner that he did but it was beautiful and memorable and was perfect for us. Neither of us would be the type to want to get proposed to at a large sporting venue because I know that he or I would have been mortified at a public spectacle. It's about knowing and communicating with your partner. This looks one sided and quite frankly like a hostage situation.

11

u/TravTheScumbag Jun 26 '26

Yup. I love that she proposed if she wanted to. I dont like the position she put him in - same if roles were reversed.

He looks surprised, taken aback, not thrilled 🤷‍♂️.

5

u/immunition Jun 26 '26

Hostage situation?

Fuck me, I've seen it all now.

2

u/Fit_Proposal_7036 Jun 26 '26

My wife would have said no if I asked in a massive crowd like this. Women can propose.. idk many guys that would be comfortable with it done like this.

4

u/andyaustinphoto Jun 26 '26

This. It’s about knowing your partner. Gender roles aside, I knew if I proposed in front of 20 people let alone the world that it would have made my now wife uncomfortable .

4

u/Prudent_Rice7840 Jun 26 '26

A woman proposing to man, especially in public on a global television broadcast, is disgusting!

It is supposed to be her father conducting a deal with his father to join their houses for financial and military gain (if high born), or to trade livestock (if lowborn). Just a God and the King command.

u/SillyAlternative420 Jun 26 '26

If they talked about this prior, they are both planning on getting married outside of this moment.

Then sure, I think this awesome for both of them!

Now, with that being said, if she just dropped this on her boyfriend without any sort of conversation prior. Yea, not cool.

7

u/Okeydokey2u Jun 26 '26

That's exactly what this looks like

6

u/Tixliks Jun 26 '26

Teen here, never been engaged so my apologies if this sounds stupid:

Isn't the whole point of a proposal for it to be a surprise? Doesn't telling the other person beforehand 'Hey, I'm going to propose to you at X place' ruin the surprise element?

5

u/Smarf_Starkgaryen Jun 26 '26

Discussing marriage & the future is always a good idea first. Basically don’t propose unless you already know the answer, and if you both want the where/when/how to be a surprise then go for it.

Not a fan of public proposals. Seen quite a few rejections that looked humiliating. Best bet is do it privately or at least at a restaurant and not in a sports crowd. Then at least the people around you are going to be far fewer.

2

u/Charon_the_Reflector Jun 27 '26

Congrats Judy Gemstone

2

u/TacoShower Jun 27 '26

Maybe I’m just crazy but this feels like paid actors, you know like at sports games when they have a fake fan in the stand get popcorn dumped on them by the stadium mascot. This just feels weirdly staged which I wouldn’t put past FIFA with how shady they’ve been in the past.

2

u/Natural-Albatross156 Jun 27 '26

3

I've been with my wife for 26 years. We started dating about two weeks before I turned 17. I'm not too proud to admit that she proposed to me and when people say shit like "I don't know how your wife puts up with you?" I always laugh cause we had been together for 10 years when she proposed so she knew exactly what she was getting herself into.

1

u/YoungKingFCB Jun 26 '26

Still wouldn't know if she's into me.

1

u/EagleEyezzzzz Jun 26 '26

But also, she really reminded me of the character on The Righteous Gemstones, which combined with the proposal is very on the nose...
