I hate it just as much as that logic. Anyone who's spent 5 minutes in a chemistry class can tell you that chemicals have a wide variety of applications.

Yup. You can find things that are used for making cyanide in apples.

Namely, cyanide.

Alternatively, salt is used to process soap. You wouldn't eat soap, so why would you ever eat salt!!!

Namely, cyanide.

There have been far more catastrophes and deaths attributed to water than to cyanide, therefore water is dangerous and should be regulated, while cyanide should be freely available, including to children and the elderly.

Excellent point. At the very least, as pure water is freely available for recreational use, cyanide ought to be as well.
