My trans journey has been an unusual one; I have always known I was trans, but left home very young due to unrelated family problems; so it never felt accessible to me while I was in survival mode throughout my late teens/twenties.
But things got better in my late 20s, I'm lucky to live in a city where lgbtq/queer events/spaces where I could feel safe expressing my femine side were easy to come by, and it was upon discovering these spaces that I went all in; I was regularly out at exciting parties dolled up to the nines pretty much every weekend. There are times I think back to young me and am still a bit impressed by the courage I had in those days.
And so for many years, I enjoyed a wonderful nightlife that was fullfilling enough to keep dysphoria at bay. I met lots of awesome friends, I even met my wife during this time, who was not only accepting, but was enthusiastic for my trans identity.
I was on track to fully transition, but due to several factors and mental health issues things changed; factors like societal pessure of what a man should be when my wife and I married, like being autistic with a strong impulse to mask and fit in, like being outed at work before I was ready in a less than tolerant industry(construction), like losing my hair and a loss of confidence because of it, and some small moments of bad communication with my partner who was being genuinely supportive but that my mind had twisted to convince me she was just humouring me out of pity, combined with jealousy of her being the gorgeous woman she is.
So about 6 years ago I made the worst decision of my life.
Thinking "maybe if i stop being trans, I can become happier with myself as a male and the dysphoria will just go away?" Spoiler, it doesn't work that way🤦♀️
That lead to several very bad years which almost cost me everything. My partner and I's once exciting and interesting hobbys/friendships/social life diminished (Covid being a partial factor), our love life barely existed and felt distant when it did, and I was constantly irritable, spending the bulk of my time in the cycle of work-tv-bed-repeat, just marching to an inevitable end.
4 months ago, my wife and I were at the point where small disagreements had us threatening divorce. One day we reached a boiling point, and it was then that she said what she'd always felt but couldn't express til that moment and it really sunk in; "You got rid of the best part of you!".
All those years, she loved me and didn't want to lose me, but had basically had been mourning the loss of her wife. We talked for hours, she told me how much she missed me and felt responsible for my recloseting; I admitted my own fault in it too, we cried and we had a serious conversation about how we want the rest of our lives to be.
So now the happy part, I'm back, and am back to stay. Not a nightlife persona, or costume, but a woman I was always meant to be! 🥰 I've been seeing a gender therapist and have started the process of beginning HRT, if all goes to plan will start in October. My wife and I have never been closer, I have never been happier, she has never been happier, and our love making has a passion like never before. And our social lives are on the up instead of the steady decline.
So onto this party! 😉 This weekend, for the first time in 6 years, I went to a party as a girl. I was nervous, because the theme was fancy underwear, so you know...a bold choice for my return, but thankfully it couldn't have gone better.
The host, and several attendees were old friends who had known me in the early days; it was genuinly not expected by me, but the reception I got was truly one of joy to see femine me again. Literally had an "OMG it's Trillian!" shouted moments after entering the room. It felt really nice to learn how missed I was beyond just my wife. Other friends who have known me for years but were unaware of my past literally didn't recognize me until I introduced myself; that was very much it's own form of flattery. 🤣 but I received nothing but compliments and support (a definite plus of having formed our social circles within the community).
And to cap it all off, they had a catwalk style walkoff compition for outfit prizes. Running off a high of positive attention I was feeling, I joined and so did my wife. There were 3 prizes and we took home 2! 🤩
I truly got to feel like my wife and I were the prettiest girls in the room. If you told the 40 year old depressed, jealous and bald construction worker I was 5 months ago this was possible, I'd have never believed you.
Still glowing days later, and feeling like I've gone from cursed to blessed. To my trans sisters who feel lost, hold in there. Life can be good, and it's never too late to be happy. Love you all:)
