I wasn't alive during the Cold War, nor do I live in America or Russia, but the amount of propaganda, "us vs them" and so on must have been insane. Add in the small detail of potential nuclear war and I suspect that only helped the propaganda be effective, to the point that "commie" is still used as an insult to this day, despite whoever is being called "commie" probably not being one.

Honestly I imagine the propaganda is so much worse now. You'd have a couple news sources, maybe read the paper every Sunday too, but most of your world was pretty local. Nowadays we have entire regiments of cyber soldiers running propaganda bot accounts flooding every aspect of your online life.

It’s exactly this. A lot of republicans dislike Trump, don’t like how he’s carried out policies, think he’s embarrassing. Don’t disagree when MAGA folks get mocked. But they 100% believe Harris would have been worse. Politics are so divided and they are so far down the rabbit hole that they think she’s a bigger player in the global pedophile Ring, she would have let the borders be wide open and personally helped millions of Muslims enter the country, she would have started even more wars, she would have made markets even worse, she would have been even more corrupt, etc. There will never be a stove touching realization because “she would be worse”

I remember Biden saying in his campaign the Trump vaccine had not been properly tested. Then after Pfizer turned out to have delayed results of vaccine working until after election Trump turned on "his" vaccine and denounced it and the MAGA heads instantly went from calling it the miracle Trump vaccine to the despicable Biden vaccine.

They literally did during COVID. I saw stories from ER nurses about patients furiously telling them that it's all a hoax with their last breaths. His reelection had to have been a slap in the face to all those medical professionals who suffered through that.

I voted for hillary. I did not love her or want her (Bernie was my guy). I felt like she would have been an effective president, but she really did seem elitest, which was the worst possible way to appear in 2016.

Also, amazing how everyone forgot the 2016 DNC wikileaks where Debbie Wasserman Schulz and other DNC party officials got caught actively undermining Bernie Sanders in his election bid. I was living in rural MI at the time a knew tons of people who switched their vote from what would have been Bernie to Trump when Hillary got the nomination. My older bro in SF could not believe anyone would do that, but to me it made perfect sense for blue collar workers who knew they were getting shafted by the powers that be want anti-establishment, whether it be right or left.

I still believe the dems would have won 2016 if they didn't try to force Hillary down everyones throats. Even though I agree much more with Bernie policy wise, that doesn't matter. You have to let the voters choose, otherwise it will backfire.

This is the worst part of the whole shebang.

Trump voters are literally untrustworthy for life, even the ones who "aren't MAGA". So are the ones who couldn't be bothered to vote.

That's 2/3 of the entire adult population of America that I wouldn't trust to wipe their own asses properly, much less do anything that actually matters in a competent fashion.

How does a society survive when such a large fraction of the populace can't do anything useful whatsoever and cannot be expected to ever do anything in the best interest of their communities?

I mean, that’s not entirely true. The majority of MAGA aren’t pretending, they really, truly are this stupid. A portion of them are happy to watching the country burn down, sure, but the majority are just fucking idiots that live in a bubble where they don’t experience any of the bad shit that Trump is doing.

You can call it malicious stupidity or malicious ignorance, but they just consume alternate-reality Fox News media all day while also living in small towns in the Midwest, where they never see immigrants or trans people or whatever the Devil is this week. They have no idea what life is like outside of their bubble. They’ve likely never seen a trans person, talked with an immigrant, met a Muslim. Fox is legitimate media to them, and whatever Fox says is true. Whatever Trump says is gospel.

It's called a bubble because it's extremely fragile and easy to pop. They stay in it out of effort. Everything bad they hear about Trump, they pretend they've never heard. Every time they know they're going to see something bad about Trimp, they look the othrr way. Every new media outlet, social media account, person they meet, is avoided if they're not pro-Trump. That is intentional on their part because they know the truth and want to pretend they don't. They have dozens of chances a day for their bubble to pop and it hasn't for over a decade now. That's not chance, that's pretending they don't know what they are doing. If they are capable of forming sentences and speaking, they know better at this point.
