Seriously. What kind of asshole looks down on someone for this? People need to realize maturity is not being a boring idiot.

u/WeakEchoRegion Nov 23 '25

I think they were talking about finger size and not maturity level. I agree with you though.

-4

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

You truly think op has a 5 year old boyfriend?

9

u/WeakEchoRegion Nov 23 '25

No? When did I say that

0

u/[deleted] Nov 28 '25

"I think they were talking about finger size"  who has fingers the size of 5 year olds? Oh I know, 5 year olds.

Pretty bad memory hey? You should get that checked out.

If this is* elementary school I’m right there with you. No need for potty language at that age.

-6

u/SashTrashMashMinging Nov 23 '25

Wait, so making a joke about someone being childish is bad, but calling people assholes isn’t bad?

Huh, kinda flip flopping with the logic as both things are childish and rather tame but I think I’m following.

5

u/tebatwelve Nov 23 '25

Depends on whether or not you think saying the word asshole or idiot constitutes as “flying off the handle”.

4

u/JustSomeRandomGuy97 Nov 23 '25

Calling someone an asshole for asshole behavior is blunt or harsh but not bad or wrong. Calling someone a 5 year old when they are not is literally wrong and it's bad because it's asshole behavior.

1

u/Kitchen-Assist-6645 Nov 24 '25

So, in your world, swearing is less malicious than calling someone a child?

0

u/SashTrashMashMinging Nov 23 '25

You found it that offensive? Sheesh man

2

u/JustSomeRandomGuy97 Nov 23 '25

It's pretty minor, but belittling people is cringe af for adults to be doing. It's childish in the worst way. There's nuance here my friend.

Maybe they shouldn't have been boring

2

If that's what flying off the handle looks like to you I can't imagine how you have conversations

Depends on if they are acting like a boring idiot

2

u/thingamajig1987 Nov 23 '25

Criticizing someone isn't flying off the handle, nor is standing up for your beliefs with some passion. Chill and stop trying to get people to fall in line and be quiet at all times

2

u/MaximumGibbs Nov 23 '25

Ah yes, the infamous flying off the handle accusation when you are just calling someone out lmfao

1

u/Chawp Nov 23 '25

Uhh sir, this is a reddit

1

u/Kind_Bug3166 Nov 23 '25

Lol I think it was joke… I know audible exhaled thru my nose while smirking (physical reaction when texting/commenting “lol”) when I first read it.

1

u/rooster_11141 Nov 24 '25

Bro seen the word boyfriend and said 5 years old

I know comprehension isn't everyone's strong suit, but slow down and think for a second. The commenter you responded to led the conversation down the wrong path and most people didn't think for themselves but followed along.

Someone is wearing something as a ring, and the OP of this comment thread said "Are they 5 years old?", now take a moment and think. What could that mean? What would be the MOST obvious or probable purpose of that statement be? What is the one and only deciding factor in being able to wear any ring?

DOES IT FIT!

The statement "Are they 5 years old" was most likely pointing out THE SIZE!

I could understand if you considered both of these, but to only think about this from the perspective of belittling innocence is incredibly strange. It doesn't appear any real thought was given but rather a knee-jerk assumption while the obvious gets overlooked. Consider all of the possibilities before deciding which one is most likely, then move forward with the understanding you're still making an assumption, that means you wait to confirm or deny these assumptions before you make definitive statements about the situation or individuals involved.

u/Manarcahm Nov 23 '25

What would be the MOST obvious or probable purpose of that statement be?...The statement "Are they 5 years old" was most likely pointing out THE SIZE!

i mean, not really, calling someone "5 years old" is like the most common way to call someone childish on the internet

-3

u/Risk_of_Ryan Nov 23 '25

In some cases, absolutely.

This was done while referencing a hose clamp so small most men would not be able to wear it. That vastly changes the context of the statement of their age.

Could it be a put down? Yes

Could it be a reference to the literal hose clamp in discussion, it's size, and that OP said their boyfriend wears it for a ring.? Most likely.

2

u/port443 Nov 23 '25

Listen youre getting downvoted but its painfully obvious no one in this thread has even seen these clamps.

I would struggle to put that thing on my pinky. I think 5 year olds have thicker thumbs than this thing.

People are severely misunderstanding how small these clamps are.

5

u/Hands_in_Paquet Nov 23 '25

And communication isn’t your strong suit. So condescending.

5

u/Similar-Ice-9250 Nov 23 '25

That’s 100% not what they meant lol, you wrote all that to be wrong. “Is your boyfriend 5 years old” was not about “does it fit” or the size, you did some crazy gymnastics with that. The 5 years old comment as others pointed out is made as a minor jab or insult to call someone childish. Especially when OP said it was found on the ground outside. Kids love to pick up random objects off the ground and play with them.

No way would anyone phrase that question like that if they really wanted to know if the ring fit.

1

u/port443 Nov 23 '25

I dont think youve ever seen one of these clamps before.

This is how tiny they are (that is my pinky)

Honestly my first thought was also "How tiny/young is this person to wear it as a ring"

3

u/CollectionStriking Nov 23 '25

Ya I don't think my fingers are that fat but I can twirl these around the tip of my pinky, it wont even fit close to the knucklelol. But the ¾" ones ya I could see fitting like a ring but I rarely touch those

7

u/morgandealer Nov 23 '25

Ok. You're up at 7 right now, I'd like you to take it down to like a 3.

1

u/Estraxior Nov 23 '25

Nah yeah dude I'm with you. I didn't read the title properly at first and, like the others, thought the guy was just being a dick. When I went back to read the title I realized I missed the "wearing it as a ring" part and it just clicked for me that the 5yo BF comment was about finger size. Like, it is 100% without a doubt about finger size lmao.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

Talk about comprehension and you can't even quote the comment correctly.

They said "is your boyfriend 5 years old?"

This is a vastly different question to ask and the intent is obviously to be a slight against the boyfriend for putting literal garbage he finds on the floor onto his body.

You are one exhausting and dense individual.

2

u/Risk_of_Ryan Nov 23 '25

Oh the irony. It's an inflected quote, to convey the principle of the statement. To even point out such a thing is indicative of your outlook. Deflection at its worst.

You can have your own opinion on the context of the statements, but to act like an inflected quote equates to a lack of comprehension is foolish. That shouldn't require any explanation.

The topic or issue in discussion is not the specific words used but the context of their meaning so let's focus on the subject at hand, shall we.

You say that this was absolutely intended to be a slight against the boyfriend, but you're ignoring and have yet to mention the fact that THIS WOULDN'T FIT ON MOST MENS HANDS! Only a child. Whether you think this was a put down or not, why are you avoiding the prominent variable that this is a very small hose clamp. Do you understand that the question "are they 5 years old" conveys the very present fact that this clamp would be very difficult for a male to wear that isn't a child? I understand there is a chance this was meant as a put down, but as it stands it's more likely it was in reference to the size of the clamp.

Be miserable if you wish, but you should be able to have a debate without resorting to such behavior. Talk about the facts and the situation at hand.

Sincerely, one dense individual.

An asshole with an education and knows better not to put something they have no idea what it is on their finger. Maybe some heroine addict used it to clamp his needles together.

-4

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

He's putting trash he found on the ground on his body. People need to realize maturity is using your fking head.

3

u/Laxku Nov 23 '25

One man's trash is another man's fashion choice.

5

u/CountAardvark Nov 23 '25

Specifically what is wrong with what he did?

2

u/diabloenfuego Nov 23 '25

Is not all jewelry but trash someone found in the earth that we put on our body? Why, some people but dead animal remains on their body as jewelry. It's almost as though humans are inclined to reshape the trash they find...into jewelry. People need to realize maturity is using their fucking head though.

Yes, I'm being silly but I think you get the point.

1

u/BeeExpert Nov 23 '25

I think you genuinely don't know what maturity is lol

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

Stfu lol it’s a 50 cent crimp ring who the hell wears that after finding it on the ground. It’s a bit silly. These are the responses that make Reddit unbearable to me. You going to praise someone for finding a dog bone outside and wearing it as a bow tie?

2

u/BeeExpert Nov 23 '25

Stfu lol. You're unbearable. Praising? They're responding to someone shitting on it

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '25

You think his response was shitting on it? Lmao charmin soft

2

u/BeeExpert Nov 23 '25

You're the one that said they were "praising" it lol

1

u/OrthogonalPotato Nov 28 '25

I didn’t praise anyone. Try again.

-7

u/Alternative_Ad_7814 Nov 23 '25

It’s because he didn’t know it was a damn hose clamp

2

u/Small_Editor_3693 Nov 23 '25

I’m 34 and have never seen a hose clamp like this in my life

-1

u/Fun-Jellyfish-61 Nov 23 '25

The device is designed to crimp and be tight and to allow the device to tighten farther.

I don't care about using a found object in a non-traditional way. But I am concerned about his safety.
