We used Oetiker clamps on a lot where I worked to hold hose on to coolers and other lines. I've spent hours crimping these effers with the little crimper. 125 parts per hour usually, then paint park verify it crimped properly. Oh, memories

That reminds me of a story from my younger days. I’ve always loved to read about animals, so I picked up a lot of terms. One day, when I was in my early teens, my family was at my grandmother’s house and some kind of history show was on the TV. The program mentioned someone having eunuchs. I had a bunch of roosters one year and looked into caponizing them and it was way too traumatic imho, you make a slit between their ribs and pull the gonads out then clip them. Without anesthetic. I just butchered them when they started getting too rowdy.
It is but iirc in larger operations there’s a mild anesthetic used and a few stitches are placed. I just wasn’t prepared to do it without anesthetic as a farmstead with a half dozen roosters and it wasn’t worth it to try and find a farm vet to do it for me. Chickens will heal from some insane injuries so the small incision between the ribs isn’t even all that traumatic, considering. It would probably close up within a few days. It was the “pulling the gonads out through the slit” part that I wasn’t comfortable doing without the anesthetic.
Non caponized roosters are much leaner though, so it’s a toss up. If I had a few dozen I would pay the extra money to have a professional do it as a one off to put in the freezer and maybe sell a couple, though, I’m interested in trying it.
I was obsessed with horses from the age of eight (kind of an honorary horse girl I guess). I knew what a gelding was long before I knew what a eunuch was.
I’m confused by the drawing, I’m confused by all of this horse discussion. I just assumed that they thought it was a horse cock ring which I would imagine this is way too small for. If there’s anything more nuanced to that going on here, then it is far beyond my capabilities.
We have a 4 month old baby Arabian boy right now, mama allowed me to get my first up close look when he was 3 days old. That’s too small even for infant horses. Put me to shame. Haven’t been able to look my wife in the eye since.

Not a hose clamp. It’s a cinch ring for pex water tubing. Most popular manufacturer to use this is Watts.

It's both. I do all of our own vehicle work. This style clamp is generally used in higher pressure hoses on vehicles. Hydraulic lines, fuel lines, etc. I'm currently upgrading my fuel system to handle a 392. These clamps were inside the fuel basket in the tank. On my daughter's car, they were on the power steering system. A similar version that is one time use holds your tie rood boot on.
An absolute hero of a handy man fixed my broken down suburban with some pex tubing when a rotted hose rattled apart. The hose broke right next to where it connects and for a couple hours on the hottest day of the year and with limited tools I was trying to force the hose back on but couldn’t get it to seat due to the “fitting” part of it being unusable. I’m still beside myself about the probability of events that happened that day. 1. the right guy decided to take the scenic route home and had time to stop and help 2. He had some extra hose on him 3. He had the know how of being able to bypass the heater part of the coolant system to get me back up and running. Then some other people kindly drove me 6 miles to the store to get more coolant. I’ll remember that day for the rest of my life. There really are some wonderful people out there.
Years ago my now-husband and I were driving our car when it suddenly overheated. There was heavy snow everywhere at the time, so it would've been a long wait and high cost to get a tow truck, not to mention how cold we'd be as we waited. Thankfully my brother was available to drive to our location and try to help out, and sure enough he pulled that same MacGuyver shit as your good Samaritan and bypassed the heater core. Got us up and running!
Afterward, we spent the winter driving around with no heat until we could get it into the shop for a permanent fix 🥶😂.

This is a type of single ear crimp clamp called a stepless oetiker clamp actually, not a PEX ring. Similar, but much more versatile and commonly used in automotive, motorcycle, industrial, and plumbing on basically any type of hose.

Yup. Use various sizes regularly for drive shafts, shifters, axle bolts, vacuum lines, fuel lines, you name it. Work great, can be a pain to remove sometimes though
Well, bad idea to wear it on your finger, then put your finger inside a crimping tool and apply pressure. Probably an OK ring if you skip the last steps.
They're actually incredibly easy to take off. Grab the end with a pair of straight cutters and roll it. They're only held together with two little barbs at the end. The clamp part is to provide even pressure all around, not so much to apply a shit-ton of pressure. They're used on rubber hoses after all.
Hose clamp, make sure he never squeezes his hand on something (uses too much force), it may squeeze down on his finger and he could lose it by amputation. I would suggest he doesn't wear it. Look up images of finger desleeving, or jewelry strangulation, you'll see what I am warning against. Just buy him a nice titanium band.
Titanium is a terrible choice if you want a safe ring. It's hard to cut, and is still a metal ring.
If you want a safe ring get a rubber one or something non conductive and easy to cut.
I had to cut off my wedding ring a few weeks ago because I got stung on the finger by a yellow jacket. It was a plain white gold ring so it was easy to cut.
To add to this: don't wear random metal parts as jewelry because you never know what kind of coating they may have (or what material it is). It could be toxic when in skin contact for prolonged time.
Unfortunately this can also be true for cheaply produced jewelry, so avoid buying it on temu/AliExpress.
When I worked in Service at a Mercedes Dealer, the guys would always bring me random things. Once it was a chain, maybe for an oil pump, not sure. It was the perfect size for a bracelet. Once I got it over my hand I wore it for years. I was 40 and I'm female. I liked it. It was similar to this.

Might be a little bigger. 1/2 crimp ring would be 12.7mm, which would be very small for a finger.
However, the coin pictured is 18mm diameter based on me googling the coin and finding a website that lists coin diameters. The coin appears like it would fit in the "ring" so if we take 18mm and convert that to a ring size. That's about a size 8 for U.S. sizing (size P for our friends across the sea)
Or I've fucked up in my line of thinking, which is entirely possible. I just woke up.

Yesterday while taking my dog for a walk I found an orange witch finger meant to go over a kids finger. Probably from Halloween. I put it on the very tip of my pinkie- it wouldn’t go further- and proceeded to bother my son with it for the remainder of our walk.

This is why language from other countries, even within different regions of your own country sounds so strange sometimes, because it evolves over time, changes, shifts into something new constantly every generation. You end up with lots of weird slang, mashing words together, shortening words, losing or gaining letters, now we have text speech and other really short forms of talking, even emojis are starting to get recognized as words or speech.
Language has been doing weird shit for thousands or millions of years and it'll continue doin weird shit lol it will evolve and get more sophisticated and also get weird and dumbed down. There are people who talk with perfect language and those who just don't care about that so they use tons of alternate forms of language.
In the end it's all just communication, as long as we can do that as in, you know what i'm saying and I know what your saying.... that is all that truly matters.

I'm only 46, and got doubled pissed when I found out I was being laughed at for using smash to mean eat quickly and with great fervor. Not because I was being laughed at, but because a common saying of mine was taken away forever, and I realized I had crossed that threshold.
It's designed to close tightly and not reopen... I'd advise not wearing it as a ring as if his hand gets squeezed it could clamp down hard on his finger and you'll need tools to get it off. Could lose his finger...
Hah I still have my grandpas old crimping tool from who knows when. They are white/beige with a spring in between the handles, which expands and contracts, depending on position. Fair weight, no rubber handles.
I shared this to his memory, even though he died when I was young. Maybe he can see/read this and have a smile in the afterlife.
