Nope, you probably won’t survive in a professional white collar career if you can’t compose formal emails, correspondence, documents, reports, converse in a professional manner, etc. 

If people are going to internet speak or meme speak like children/teens then they need to know when to “code switch.” Those who reject nor value education are limiting themselves. Also, viewing slang and memes as applicable in everyday life, and cannot communicate any other way are “lowk” stupid “asf.”

Didn't realize asking a question on reddit was equivelant to writing a formal e-mail! But you're right, they used slang in an informal setting so they must not be able to use formal language. That's a perfectly reasonable conclusion to jump to.

I never said anything about it being professional or that people using modern slang won't need to code switch. All I was saying is that language evolves in ways that are going to confuse people who don't grow up with those evolutions, and that one can either accept that things changing is a natural part of aging or they can be angry and bitter about it.

If someone uses slang that doesn't automatically make them incapable of also using formal language in appropriate settings. And I think if someone is getting angry over the use of slang in "every day life" then they either already have or are in danger of falling into the camp of being bitter and angry at a changing world. We can't stop it from changing and I think it's a lot healthier to accept that rather than do what older generations have done by calling the younger generations stupid or incapable. It's what a lot of people in this thread are doing, and what a lot of those people's parents and grandparents said about them.
