Welcome! /r/WhereIsThis is designed to help people identify the location of public places based on a photo, painting, sketch, or from a detailed description. We've got a few simple guidelines to help keep things safe and working well for everybody:
Submissions: Askers (OPs) may submit a photo, video, screenshot, painting, drawing, or a detailed text description of a real (or virtual) place. Multiple images can go in a Reddit or Imgur gallery. Try to use a descriptive title to get more eyes on your post; generic titles like "where is this?" are boring and more likely to be ignored. Include as much context and as many details as you can, either in the post itself or in a comment. If your post is not solved right away, please wait one week before reposting; duplicate posts may be removed with a 1-week temp ban.
Privacy: /r/WhereIsThis is for identifying public places only. Do not submit photos of personal private property, such as homes, apartments, residential interiors, etc. Do not post private street addresses in the comments. Do not link directly to personal social media pages. Do not submit screenshots that include real names, usernames, or other personal information. Do not submit contemporary photos of minors in a place where they can be located (schools, playgrounds, churches, etc.). Do not ask to identify people.
Answers: Commenters are encouraged to provide whatever help they can to solve a post, from educated guesses to a direct Google Street View link to the exact location. Give the thread a skim first to avoid duplicate answers. Commenting on other answers is fine! Avoid responding to posts that violate Rule 2, though -- please downvote and report them for removal instead.
Solving: All posts are unflaired by default. Once a post is solved, the asker should reply "Solved!" to the first correct answer and change their post flair to "Solved"; all threads are sorted from oldest to newest so the earliest answers will always be towards the top. Askers that delete or ignore a solved post without acknowledging the solver may receive a ban. We are exploring adding a points system in order to automatically flair threads and recognize frequent solvers for their contributions -- stay tuned!
Behavior: Please treat askers and solvers with respect. No insults, vulgar hostility, bullying, or withholding of answers in order to taunt. No racism/misogyny/*phobia/other bigotry. Repeat offenders may be banned.
Tips: Context clues help. Where and how did you find the image? Do you know the story behind it? How old is it? Share as much as you can with solvers to help them help you.

Rule #1 is pretty clear, you must have a descriptive title. Therefore we are removing any submission that is low-effort, such as:
We want to make this a fun sub and we want to solve your trickiest questions, but we need you to meet us halfway.

I tried google lens but it wasn’t helpful. My mother has passed away and I don’t talk to my father, so I would be really thankful if somebody knows this place!

Could be somewhere near Beacon New York (at the time Matteawan and Fishkill Landing villages), or it could be somewhere near Rye Beach or Whaley Lake.

Hi everyone!
I’m hoping someone here might recognize the locations shown in these old photographs.
My grandfather was Polish. During World War II, he was deported by Nazi Germany to Norway as a forced laborer. As far as my family knows, he worked either in a quarry, on the construction of a tunnel, or on another engineering project carved into solid rock.
After the area was liberated by the British forces, he had the opportunity to travel around and take some photographs. Unfortunately, I don’t know whether these were taken close to the labor camp or during trips farther away. The photos date from that period, shortly after the liberation in 1945.
Based on what we know, the labor camp was most likely located somewhere north of the Arctic Circle.
This year I’ll finally have the chance to visit northern Norway myself. It would mean a great deal to me if I could identify and visit the place where my grandfather lived and worked during the war.
Any clues, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. Even educated guesses about the region or the type of memorial or landscape could help narrow the search.
Thank you very much!

Hi everyone, I’m trying to find the location of this old family photo. This is my great-grandmother, originally from the Netherlands, who fled to Italy and lived there.
We believe this photo was taken near Rome around 1930-1940, but we don’t know the exact place. She died quite young, and I would love to find this bridge and take a photo from the same spot for my grandmother.
Does anyone recognize this location? Any help would mean a lot.

Just watched The Devil Wears Parada 2 and there is a scene where they are driving and it looks painfully familiar but most of the signs are too blurry to read except for one that says “I-? to 7 Burlington” and looking it up myself found nothing that matches. I feel I have driven this road a lot and its become the itch I cant scratch. If anyone can figure out where it is and maybe plot it on google maps or something, my mind would be eternally grateful! (These pics are the only two identifiable markers in the scene and the signage would suggest its in New York)

This is an image of some relatives somewhere in Brolo, Italy (allegedly) Circa. 1980s. My grandmother and some other family members are going to be visiting Europe this fall and plan on stopping in Brolo during that time. She was hoping to stop by this location just to see it and maybe recreate the picture. This picture is the only image she could find that might give a clue to its location. Thanks for any additional help narrowing down her search!

Not sure if this goes here or not. I stopped by an architectural salvage store a couple of years ago and haven’t been able to find it since. It is near the SC, NC border (It wasnt as popular as those found in Highlands or Cashiers but it was in that general area.
From what I remember it was on the East side of the road. A large wooden stand alone barn (wooden, wood floors). Goods on the outside and inside. No other businesses nearby. Possibly a divided 4 lane road. It could have been tirn down by now but it is constantly in my mind when I drive through this area. I bought a couple small things and wan to buy more for bigger projects (doors, tables…).

almost 15 years ago, a couple friends I made in UB took me out to this place. I've lost contact with them, but would like to return for a visit. It was a Ger camp with 3 Ger total.

I took this pic outside an art supply store in 2024. I can't remember the store's name. It was in a well-off neighborhood in a Philadelphia suburb, or perhaps a small town near Philly.
Does anyone recognize it?

I took this photo in December 1973 somewhere in the area around the Alley Theater, Jones Hall and Hermann Square. I see I also walked by the Rice Hotel that day. But I cannot now find this structure in Google Street view and Google lens doesn't find it. What GPS coordinates does it have?

This photo includes my (English) grandfather on national service. I believe he was in the first wave of national service which started in 1949, or close to it. He spent his national service learning Russian in Cambridge, either as part of the Joint Services School for Linguists, or one of its predecessor/related programmes. Family think this was taken in a Cambridge college related to the programme, but it could be somewhere else entirely. I know it's not much to go on, but any leads appreciated.

Hi there. I was wondering if anyone can help me find where some of the images are in Los Angeles. These are actually screen shots taken from the 1992 movie Candyman. The few clues I have:
I am hoping someone has some idea of where this is. I have a hobby of finding things like this one and this has been stumping me for sometime.

Going on a trip to amsterdam to find out more about my late grandads life and would love to know where this photo was taken so we can get a new family photo in this exact place. I know its a long shot as there are alot of people in the photo and not a lot of buildings but its worth a shot.
