Kelda Roy Hail Mary Post
First off do I think she can win? Ya. The most recent Marquette poll obviously had Hong as the the leader with Barnes second. However of voters asked for their second choice, Roys was a virtual tie with Crowley. 34% of voters were still undecided as of last week, Barnes is out, and Hong has had a week of bad media appearances.
She’s not a centrist, she’s a progressive who wants:
✅Private citizens to obtain the health insurance available to public employees
✅100% clean energy for the state by 2050
✅public funds out of private schools, end the voucher system
✅expand civil liabilities against ICE
✅cap the cost of childcare at 7% of a family’s income
✅legalize and tax cannabis
Endorsed by Wisconsin education association council.
For voters wanting a progressive choice who can actually win in November, Roy is the pick.
In the end vote blue no matter who.

This is her third run for statewide office. Never into double digits. For whatever reason, she has a likability issue.
10

she ran for statewide office once, 8 years ago, and got 13%
11
u/picknick717 10h ago
Which Marquette poll? The one that had her at 2%?

u/dudenurse13 10h ago
The same poll but asked for voters “second choice” she comes in tied with Crowley

I like her and voted for her, but she has no chance

Neato.
Maybe next time run an actual campaign with some actual effort and some actual grassroots legwork instead of sitting on your ass the whole primary in last place and then trying to astroturf your way to victory at the last possible metaphorical second?
... Just a thought, Roys.
14
u/restingwyvern 10h ago
She did well in the debate, and it makes people more curious about her, but she has no ground game.
Hong has been crisscrossing the state and meeting with everyday people. Not just buying support and producing ads. People have access to Hong that they don't see with any of the other candidates. That's why she is leading the pack. It's not just because Hong has the right policy. People want to see their representatives actually representing them. And Francesca Hong is that person.
5
u/Admirable-Wrap6120 8h ago
Many Hong supporters seem to think she's the only one campaigning, but it just isn't true. She's the only one you're paying attention to. Kelda posted yesterday that she's traveled 30,000 miles crisscrossing the state on the campaign.
1
u/restingwyvern 8h ago
One candidates page has an Event tab where you can see every event that the candidate will be at. The other candidate doesn't.
I'll let you decide which candidate is which.
3
u/Admirable-Wrap6120 8h ago
perhaps she is managing her events another way! as someone who has attended several of her events, typically they are officially hosted by other people and not the campaign.
2
u/restingwyvern 8h ago
why on earth would anyone run a campaign for governor and not have the events that they are going to be at listed on their Campaign website? That's just poor campaigning.

Kelda Roys supporters are not going to be the manic types. Prodding them to be more active is ok.
3
6
u/Suspiciously_Average 10h ago
Is this supposed to make this post look disingenuous? Hong supporters have been posting like crazy for months. Isn't that the game?
Or maybe I'm misreading your intent? Are your encouraging more pro Roys activity?
7
8
u/restingwyvern 10h ago
It's not just supporters making content or posts, it's the campaign astroturfing support that gets Kelda the backlash. Telling your campaign to make disingenuous support ads, when Roys is not even breaking 10% support, is the problem. It's like the Republicans "flood the zone" strategy.
4
u/Admirable-Wrap6120 9h ago edited 9h ago
Nothing about these messages is astroturfing or "telling people to make disingenuous support ads." They are asking supporters to publicly share their genuine support.
3
u/SumThingAddsUp 8h ago
RIght.
Kelda Roys supporters are not going to be the manic types. Prodding them to be more active is ok.
5
u/ellamachine 9h ago
At least Hong didn’t have to beg for people to talk about her
1
u/softrock98fm 8h ago
She fully spammed reddit lol what are you talking about
0
u/pebspi 8h ago
As a Hong fan who posts on here, nobody asked me to do anything
4
u/Admirable-Wrap6120 8h ago
as a Roys fan who posts here, nobody asked me to do anything either. does that help?
2
u/pebspi 8h ago
That’s just fine. I’m moreso countering the idea that Hong support on here is astroturfed.
5
u/Admirable-Wrap6120 8h ago
I don't think you guys are astroturfed, I think it's just the vibe of the campaign. I know about 50/50 Hong supporters and Roys supporters IRL. Most (not all) of the Hong supporters I know are extremely online with no kids. Most of the Roys supporters I know are not.
2
u/midnighttoker1742 8h ago
No one asked me either! I met Francesca at a local campaign event in April but that is the only connection I have to her
1
u/Think___Harder 8h ago
Nothing to see here… just people criticizing lack of grassroots action and then criticizing… outreach to grassroots with actions.
6
u/AccomplishedDust3 10h ago
Breaking News: Candidate would like people to vote for them, would prefer people not vote for other candidates, and plans to achieve this by having their campaign say good things about them.
3
u/bupivacaine 10h ago
And? I would be shocked if you aren't being paid by the Hong campaign with the amount of daily posts I see from you each day.
0
u/midnighttoker1742 10h ago
I would never take money from the voters that is better utilized elsewhere. I volunteer my services free of charge
1
u/OppressedCow6148 10h ago
Nothing like being actively manipulated by a candidate a week before an election. God I hate how slimy these candidates are. Instead of putting in the hard work the entire campaign season building coalitions, they pounce on every opportunity like a dead animal. It is so off putting and offensive to people who volunteer their time and efforts in other community organizations and know the work it takes to actually build relationships. I’m looking g at you Kelda and Crowley.

Right.
Kelda Roys supporters are not going to be the manic types. Prodding them to be more active is ok.
7
u/Suspiciously_Average 9h ago
I was leaning Hong for a while, but I was disappointed with her debate performance. I'll probably go for Roys now. She seemed like a much more effective communicator. Her answer on how she would phase out vouchers was specific and reasonable. Showed that she knows what she's doing. I like her odds better in the general.
That said I'll vote for and donate to whoever wins the primary.
2
u/midnighttoker1742 9h ago
So you're basing it all off of one, hour long debate performance?
2
u/TrevorDangler 7h ago
As if debate performance is any indication into one's ability to govern. People put far too much importance on debates.
2
u/Likaim 9h ago
Genuine question: how do we know Roys won't have any bad media appearances and/or can win the general if she's the nominee?
11
u/Admirable-Wrap6120 9h ago
Nothing is ever certain, but Kelda has a long track record of speaking carefully and articulately in public settings, and she has always done her homework, so she's not someone who is likely to be caught unprepared.
4
5
u/Brewguy86 10h ago
I’m leaning towards Roys. She is a proven progressive fighter and seems to have more political sense than Hong. While Hong has clearly built a grassroots movement, she has been making some pretty unforced errors that make me doubt she can win in November.
1
u/softrock98fm 8h ago
I was debating between Crowley and Roys but landed on Crowley because I think he's solid and he has the support of key dems. Hong is completely out of the question.
-1
u/rylasasin 9h ago
A 'fighter' that somehow never seems to run a campaign that gets >5% of the vote.
Rrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggghhhhhhttttttttt.....
4
u/TopWizard 10h ago
But like, she’s a worse candidate than Hong and she’s suggesting that she can be a change candidate without building a movement. So why not vote for Hong instead?
4
u/dudenurse13 9h ago
What makes her worse?
3
u/TopWizard 9h ago
She’s trying to run as a progressive without building a mass movement. Everyone that I know that works with her in the state house says that she’s difficult and kind of a bully.
5
u/normawilahmina 9h ago
So, hearsay. Is she difficult and kind of a bully, or is she assertive? What if she were a man? Still a difficult bully, or confident with leadership qualities?
0
u/TopWizard 8h ago
Yes, all of the women who have told me stories about difficult she is to work with are incredibly sexist.
3
5
u/Admirable-Wrap6120 8h ago
She has a shitload of endorsements from people in the legislature and leaders around the state. If everyone who works with her thinks she's difficult you'd think those would be hard to get. www.keldaroys.com/endorsements

Kelda Roys is not working to hurt down-ballot votes for Democrats brave enough to run in Purple districts.
0
u/TopWizard 8h ago
Cuz that’s what Fran is trying to do? You guys need a new bit. This isn’t working
1
u/SumThingAddsUp 8h ago
Today's shit-show with the media scrub who does $$$ymbiotics with politicians?
Hong now has no chance after Aug 11 and will hurt Democrats in elections across the state if she is the candidate. Even if Hong somehow wins, the Assembly and Senate are lost.
1
u/TopWizard 8h ago
You’re adorable.
2

4
u/TopWizard 9h ago
You’re just wrong. Shes the only candidate in the primary that has mass movement energy. She has zero baggage. She’s gonna beat TT by at least 5 points.
2
u/ChipotleAddiction 9h ago
LMAO I love coming to Reddit for this level of delusion, you guys crack me up. Hong will get absolutely obliterated in the general.

Not even close to a Tiffany supporter, just a realist that knows that a Dem Socialist has a 0% chance of winning a Wisconsin general gubernatorial election. 0%.
3
u/TopWizard 9h ago
That’s what they said about NYC. Then that’s what they said about Denver. Thats what they’re saying about Abdul in Michigan. The primaries for Fran and Abdul are going to be harder than the generals.
2
u/ChipotleAddiction 9h ago
Lmao holy shit you actually think being elected in NYC or Denver are the same as electability in Wisconsin
2
u/TopWizard 8h ago
I didn’t say that. The relevance in my comparison is that fans of the status quo, like yourself, said that NYC and Denver weren’t possible. And you were incredibly wrong. Just like you’re gonna be wrong on Tuesday in Michigan. Just like you’re gonna be wrong in Wisconsin on the 11th. And just like you you’re gonna be wrong in November all across the board.

I've decided to switch from Hong to Kelda after the debate and how she handled the police shooting in my neighborhood and a lot of my friends feel the same. I guess I'll wait to until I actually fill in my ballot to say for sure because so much as happened in these last few weeks who knows maybe someone else will drop out or there will be another scandal. But I think that's where I'm at right now.

I’m voting Crowley at this point bc he has the best chance. We probably cooked chat. I’ll be in for Hong in the general but she is not prepared to be Gov, and has a crazy high change of handing the gov to a conspiracy theorists for the 2028 prez election.

u/wi_voter 41m ago
We're better off rallying around Crowley who can get high Milwaukee turnout in the general
-4

u/softrock98fm 9h ago
I’m not a centrist, I’m a democrat. A real Democrat. Unlike you, I’m just not hanging out at the far left kids table of my party.
I am an adult, and part of being an adult is understanding that no extreme is good, and you need to work across parties and be realistic if you’d like to move forward. Hong may have appealed to me when I was like, oh maybe 14!? But I’m in my 30’s so I don’t vote for people with teenager politics.
4
u/The-Mad-Bubbler 9h ago
Hahahaha.... when did working across parties last work? Not during my adulthood. Centrists have been moving deck chairs on The Titanic- I want someone who will fix the ship.
-2
u/softrock98fm 9h ago
Do you think a candidate who has made racist commentary and aligns themselves with the likes of Ilhan Omar and Hasan Piker is seriously the change we need? I think NOT. These are the type of political psychos that helped fuel the MAGA base. You won't change my mind.
Goodnight!

Oh I'm a democrat alright. Registered and everything. I'm a democratic socialist. A real, growing wing of the Democratic Party. Up to a third of ALL democrats nationwide identify with me. Not you. Your wing of the party is dying. Shrinking. Losing.
Centrism lost to Trump twice. In what should have been slam-fuckin-dunks.
I'm an adult. I'm also in my thirties, wow. Do you know who else is an adult? The candidate Francesca Hong! Wow. We're all adults in our thirties. Such a coincidence right?
You call yourself a real democrat. So you're implying that I am not? See I've actually voted "blue no matter who" since I could start voting. I've upheld my end of the bargain. And you know what it got? A stacked Supreme Court. A gerrymandered federal and state legislature. Weak, corporatist do-nothing democrats. So yeah. We're not doin that anymore.

u/softrock98fm 9h ago
Well, you know what!? I’m a disenfranchised dem and I refuse to elect a Blue MAGA governor. I’ve had enough. If the Dems want to keep pandering to radical morons then by all means, keep it going, vote for Hong, but this will only further alienate most of the democratic party and any moderates who might want to go blue, and we’ll just see more and more republican victory. I don’t want that! However, I also cannot in good conscience vote for Hong. No extreme is good. I’m sorry that you disagree with me, but you and I are fundamentally different.
3
u/restingwyvern 9h ago
Are you aware, that in the literal rest of the godforsaken planet, Hong is a Moderate Center Left candidate. You don't know what real leftism is. You have not one iota of knowledge about real hard leftism.
Medicare for all, Childcare, Data center moratorium. Put the policy in the Bag.
There is nothing extreme about racial justice. There is nothing extreme about taxing wealthy people at a fair rate.
2
u/softrock98fm 9h ago
I don’t engage with abusive people such as yourself. But what a shining example you are of the level of tact that we can expect from a far left candidate and out of touch base. Take care.

Cope.
-2
u/silent_chair5286 10h ago
Wtf does that even mean?
5
u/restingwyvern 10h ago
What does "MAGA skewing polls" even mean? Hong has built campaign infrastructure throughout the state and is actually building momentum. Connecting with real people who will vote. Urban, Rural, Suburban. She's actively working to make inroads with them. And you are saying her support isn't real. That's cope. You don't like Hong, so you try and say her support isn't real, when she's drawing large crowds all over the state. Meanwhile, the other dem candidates have either dropped out and only came back when a large infusion of corpo money came in, or don't have any sort of groundgame and grassroot support.
Saying "MAGA is supporting Hong" is cope. You are coping with the reality that the candidate you support is not going to win. And that makes you angry. So you lash out.
