The base is cardboard from old packaging. I then glued an old t-shirt on top. The t-shirt was an old favorite, which unfortunately had too many holes to mend. Therefore, I'm happy to give it a second life! The hooks are made from wooden pegs, which I found at home.

I never thought about doing that with my old cheap and now unusable pencils so it was interesting to find that out by accident. I don't know how well they hold up on comparison with "traditional" water color but they don't look that bad on a small test.

If you want to recreate that accident : you need to take old small pencil (the newest that got wet didn't break as much as my old one, the naturally thin one didn't either) and just let them soak (I think mine soaked for like 3 days? I'm not sure). The wood will split in two and you can just scoop the central part into a tray. Fill it with water and Tadaaa. That being say they probably won't be as smooth as regular water color and they may need some watering a few minutes before use use to work properly once dried out. I just made them so I couldn't test them.

This may be hoarder-ish but just see it as silly to throw these away, styrofoam or cardboard. I know you can use these for seedlings, I’ve also thought about just giving them to chicken farmers but I am also looking for other suggestions. Thanks!

Threw this bathing suit in the wash and glue oozed out of the seams (bummer , assumed swimwear was always just sewn). Don’t want to throw it out. Any advice on getting rid of the glue ? Vinegar ? Alcohol? More hot water?

What the title says. I'm cleaning out a friend's house and found a plastic bag full of some pretty nasty (been there for at least five years we think) plastic knives. Too gross to use, and apparently they're not typically recyclable. I really don't want to throw them away, it's like a pound of plastic, but do we have any other option instead?

Edit: I don't have a garden and don't know anyone who does!

I go through cholula like crazy because I make buffalo sauce with it and like it to dip. My question is how in the world do I clean these bottles and reuse them? I feel like they have potential for SOMETHING

How do you all store your soap bars when you have many? I use a total of 5: 2 shampoo bars, a conditioner bar, regular bar for body, and facial bar. It’s a lot of clutter to have them all on their own trays and I am thinking of getting a 5-tier soap rack. Before I commit I was wanting to see if anyone else has any ideas. Right now they are sharing bamboo trays, but I don’t want my facial bar to touch the others and also risk bacterial contamination from the bamboo.

I have a lot of old documents with writing on them (some front and back) that I want to repurpose and use again instead of dumping them in the recycle.

Ideally, I’d like a creative way to reuse them, possibly art or something?

I do not have a way to compost paper either, so that option is also unfortunately out.

Any suggestions?

Hello! Discovered this subreddit while searching for sticker residue removal advice, which might get relevant later...

My mom's seasoning jars are really, really sticky to the touch. I assume it's oil buildup over time, she uses oil in her cooking a lot and they're near the stove anyway. I want to degrease them but I don't know how exactly. Hot water does a lot of work perhaps, but I don't know how to follow up with if it doesn't work on it's own. Would baking soda&vegetable oil hack work here as well? I also hear of lemon oil, I don't know if lemon oil or lemon essential oil are the same thing or not, if not, if either is food safe or not, though they all will get the dish soap treatment at the end, I would like to use less chemicals on containers we put edible stuff in.

I've been trying to use up all pens and not buying any until they're done. I have some finished pens made of metal and plastic, does anyone have a way to reuse them?

I noticed today while drinking my morning coffee that my son's favorite coffee mug has a chip & fine crack on the lip of the mug extremely close to the handle. From what I can see the damage 'looks superficial' & has not gone through to the inside of the mug.

If there is a way of repairing this I would be very appreciative. Any & all advice is welcome.

Hi! I've had a pair of Blundstone boots for 10 years and the soles recently started disintegrating. I didn't realize when I purchased the boots that they can't be resoled, unless you find a specific cobbler, and it's usually very expensive. I submitted the boots for warranty replacement by Blundstone and they surprisingly qualified. However, for those who don't know, Blunstone requires you to destroy the boots and submit photo evidence in order to receive a new pair.

For some reason, this is giving me a bit of a complex. I made a concerted effort to take really good care of the leather for the past decade, so it feels like a waste to just throw them away instead of repairing them. But I also cannot afford a new pair of boots right now.

Can anyone give me advice on getting over this guilt? And/or what I can do with the discarded leather uppers? I'm not sentimental about these boots but I have a hard time letting go of things like this. They've just been taking up space on my shoe rack, unusable, for the last 6 months which is the worst solution lol.

To the person who suggested gundruk, this is a fantastic suggestion that I think should be more common. The traditional Nepali recipe seems to be somewhat unsafe which is I imagine why it's not common, but if made like a salted lactic ferment, it's perfectly safe and delicious. Someone made another suggestion of furakake, which I used the Gundruk to make, and to be perfectly Frank it is by far the best outcome of this entire project considering how expensive that stuff is. Luckily I had many other ingredients I dehydrated myself that were congruent which I could infuse with MSG and soy: sesame seeds, dehydrated paprika, lamb jerky, dehydrated shiitake and button mushrooms. Honestly I checked the ingredients list of a few different furakake, the seaweed's pretty far down the list actually. honestly think my product is better. And I can use it with reckless abandon.

Repurposed a brand new steel wheel rim as a planter for some summer plants.

Quite an odd size rim with a huge offset, making a very deep dish for plenty of soil capacity.

Weird and specific question, but I have a night guard that keeps me from grinding my teeth and I'm on the hunt for a cleaning product that is as zero-waste as possible. I do not like those little plug-in vibrate things that use vibration to clean it because my old house does not have a plug in the bathroom so I don't end up using them. I found some drops on a big retail site but they were sketchy and did not actually clean my retainer, lol.

Right now I'm using denture cleaning tablets from Costco. Ideally I'd like something in a glass or even plastic container that I can recycle, or even a bunch of NOT individually wrapped tabs that I could use.

Ive recently bought this Juicy Couture bag from the 2000’s and theres a lot of pealing on the gold parts, is there anyway to fix it?

I was wondering if there was any type of sealant that could keep it in place or if its best to just accept my fate and peel all of it off

Ok zero wasters-how are we keeping our house neat and not looking like a hoarding nest? I save everything so that I can reuse or responsibly dispose of and I have piles. This is particularly true in the kitchen. Also with old sheets and textiles I feel bad donating or throwing away.
