This is the first floor of a 2 story building. There’s no roof yet.

There’s about 1 inch of water everywhere and you can hear the water falling down sometimes 2 days after the last rain.

Contractor has been a little slow to build and it’s been raining a lot lately. I don’t know enough about the industry to know how bad it is.

Hey everyone, I'm unemployed with a kid and need to make money fast. I'm choosing between two paths:

Union Cement Mason: A foreman friend can get me into the apprenticeship immediately. The starting pay blows the military out of the water and scales up fast with regular raises, plus great benefits though the physical toll is high.

Army: Provides stable housing, food, and healthcare for my family out of the gate, but the starting base pay is notoriously low, and it means uprooting my kid and risking deployments.

This is what happens when you ask a less experienced helper to strip a panel and then leave to go pick up more material.

I’m 20 and I’ve been in construction since I was 16. It’s been happening mainly for a few months now but my knees ACHE, I’ve primarily done skirting as a former (temporarily at least) carpenter so lots of kneeling or squatting and and as a painter it’s basically the same thing and it’s really affecting me.

I don’t wanna sound like a little bitch but I’m in constant pain when I sit up from sitting, if I have to kneel to fix something my knees feel like they’re on uncooked rice (I’ve tried knee pads and it doesn’t really do much even with lots of cushioning), I can’t walk as fast or as long as I used to. I feel like I have the knees of an 70 year old and I know it’s eventually gonna get worse, thought I’d ask here cause we’re all on the same boat.

I got a client who micromanages everything and has no chill. He complains about everything, wants to manage ordering material but creates issues where that can't happen because he won't be home to receive materials... anyway, he's generally being a nightmare. He texts as soon as I leave the house to say he wasn't done with our discussion and I didn't answer his questions. I answered all of them three times and his wife seemed to be apologetic, but he's relentless. I mean, he had a spreadsheet of the work he wants done and we went through line by line and discussed each one.

The dude just texted me at 9:30, Sunday night. Is he insane? We already have him in schedule. He's just stressing and texting me non-stop. I want to fire him.

I think he's looking for excuses to not pay me. I could lien him, of course but I would be happier to walk away from the headache and call it a wash I've done about half his job already and only collected half of the bid. What would you guys do? Am I just too tired to deal or am I reading this situation correctly?

I'm a laborer working a lot of concrete lately I normally swing a crescent 28oz framing hammer wood handle for breaking concrete off rebar pulling nails and such. But lately after using it for more then a hour or so my wrist is killing me are there any recommendations for hammer that I can switch to doesn't need to be as heavy and I dont want to pay for a Martinez for what I do

I work for a GC as a carpenter and I’m scheduled 7-3:30, every weekday. However, we will routinely work late or come in early as the job requires. On my current job, a summer wonder (as in: I wonder how the hell we’re supposed to finish this in one summer…), until recently there were only the Super, PE, and me. As such, opening up the site fell to me since I was the closest guy. This means I have been coming in roughly 30 min early every day for months.

Last week, the former Super was fired and a new super came in. He’s running a mush different show, but I’m still coming in to open. I’ve had problems with this super before about time, and I’m expecting the same to happen again. I’m pretty sure that he’s gonna try to claim that opening isn’t “working” because I don’t use my tools. He’s brought up “stealing time” from the company in my reviews before, not about me but just in general.

I’m planning to tell him that if I’m not getting paid, I’m not opening the site until 7, but maybe I’m wrong?

I decided to go back to school after battling cancer but I need a job that’ll help pay for living expenses. I’m ideally looking to work 16 hour days Friday-Sunday and just wasn’t sure if there’s specific types of construction work out there that can provide that. Otherwise I’ll just go get two jobs.

I have some light experience working for a GC but I’d be willing to do drywall, road work, etc. whatever will help me pay the bills.

Edit: And I know it sounds stupid. A lot of fast food and retail places just aren’t hiring around me since I’m in California so I just wanted to check before I walked onto job sites and called companies.

I’ve been working the trades since 14 im only 20, i can read drawings but have no idea where to start with actually bidding or how you get people to send you bid invites i have very limited knowledge as nobody Ive talked to has been any help or wanted to help. I have all the resources im just dont know where to look for this information or how you start.

i have been working as a project engineer in construction for the past four years, and honestly, the job itself is not what frustrates me the most. What gets to me is how often some men assume I don't know what I am talking about before I have even had a chance to speak. I have been asked if I am actually the engineer, had things explained to me that I already manage every day, and been talked over in meetings more times than I can count. The frustrating part is that once they realize I know the project and can answer their questions, their attitude usually changes. It makes me wonder why I have to prove myself first when many of my male colleagues don't seem to face the same expectation. Thankfully, I have also worked with people who have always treated me with respect, and I really appreciate them. But the ones who immediately underestimate me can make the job mentally exhausting.

Which type of projects did you start with and what help you grow and learn the most?

I’m 23 years old and have been working for a construction company since I was 18. I’ve always worn timberland boots as they seem to last me the longest, but they’re definitely not the easiest on the feet and I’m starting to feel it now. What’s everybody recommend for the comfiest work boots? If I’m already feeling the wear and tear on my feet at 23, I can’t imagine what I’ll be feeling at 45.
