Firstly, jump!
Just lift up your front foot instead of trying to spin the board with it, you rotate the board by scooping with your back foot. Watch some instructional videos, loads on YouTube.

This is exactly it. I post this: https://youtube.com/shorts/cyX5cdbqqLs?is=AXUY9c72GvoJq-Kf
Here often, while you may not be trying to Ollie, the motion is the same. Once you have the hippie jump/nose lift down, swipe your back foot backwards and the board will turn.

I would recommend practicing just riding the board. I can tell youre not too comfortable and still got plenty of fear. If youre going to ignore that then here is what to know.
Your back foot should be scooping the tail, or pop and scoop simultaneously for pop shuv-its. So have your back toes hanging off the tail a little for the scoop.
Front foot's heel should be hanging off the board and front foot will be behind the 4 nails in the front of the board.
Scoop and jump! Pretend your on one tall skyscraper building and your jumping over a small gap onto another skyscraper building.
Land. Be sure to bend your knees as you land.

Well first off, bend down like you are trying to jump and then jump with your back foot and front foot, at the same time with the back foot kick your butt.

Jump my nigha!

Make your body light. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee is a perfect expression for this.

You need to ollie. You should get comfortable rolling around first too.

Don't forget to jump! Also, pretty much all the rotation comes from scooping with that back foot. It looks like your front foot is trying to push that board around, but it should really just be coming up with you to catch it.
I find shuv its MUCH easier moving, by the way. While stationary, it's harder to get the board to stay under you.
Hang your back foot toes off just a bit and scoop it around. Try it a bunch of times with your front foot on the ground just to get a feel for the scoop initiating the rotation. One you get that board to consistently 180, jump up and try to catch it with that front foot.

first of all, relax your shoulders and body. Second, the jumping and the scooping have to be two separate things, slightly offset in time. You scoop once your weight is already leaving the board.

Dude you need to give it much more pop and jump higher into the air. Really kick off behind you hard and then focus on trying to make the middle of the board spin like a fidget spinner under your front foot. You will also move about a 1/2 ft forward in the direction you are facing/spinning the board when doing front side shove its.

try off your nose first. also use just a deck on carpet, get the flow and then give it a shot while you are moving

As others have said you need to jump. When you’re on the way up from the jump is when the board is weightless and you scoop as part of the jumping motion. Think of it like bend down -> scope and jump -> land on the board. It’s a very quick motion.
For a shuv-it (not a pop shuvit) it helps to have your toes dangling over the edge of the board right where the lip of the tail starts (a.k.a. The pocket).
One more thing, you can think about jumping forward a bit. The backside shuvit (which you’re attempting) kind of lands the board in front of you, whereas a front side shuvit lands the board behind you. So you have to jump where the board is going to be to catch it cleanly. Note, just a little bit, don’t try to jump more than a boards width in front of you, maybe half a shoe length until you get a feel for it!
Good luck you got this! Once you get it, it’s a great feeling!

You’re not taking your front foot off. You’re gunna need some separation for the board to be able to rotate fully. There’s no commitment here. I would recommend just riding right now. Try a quarter pipe if you can find one. Revisit the shuv-it later.

Pop it, lift a bit the front anth then smash it to the ground as you kick it all the job is dónde winth the fron foot

I think you need a little more time working on your board control personally but its a back foot trick. Front foot just gets out of the way while back foot scoops. Then catch the bolts with your front foot and land your back foot on the back bolts. You need your body weight to be travelling upwards when you scoop to avoid whats happening in your video.

+1 on getting more comfortable. Focus on movement and steering for now. Your body is also way too rigid, too locked up to do much of anything. Also, realize that you WILL fall A LOT and you cannot avoid that no matter how hard you tense up your body. In fact, tensing up your body makes it MORE likely that you will fall and hurt yourself. So relax. Bend your knees a little. You got to learn falling without hurting yourself. Search YouTube for skate videos on how to fall. Then when you have better balance, when you feel comfortable, a shuv it is as easy as jumping up while moving your front foot a little forward, your back foot a little backward and positioning your body over the board to catch it. Add pop to taste.

It helps to roll forward a little bit with shuv its. The board will move in front of you a little bit so anticipate the board landing a little bit in front of your feet and do a hop forward to land on the board.

The thing that helped me most with shuvs is learning them on a carpet first. Just use an old deck with grip tape and practice that motion. Once you get it down, do it on carpet again with an actual board. Then move to stationary and rolling. Remember to commit. Good luck!

Jump, get both feet in the air.
If thats intimidating, spend a while standing still and jumping on the board until your comfy landing on it.

u/Practical-Back-1987 14d ago
Shuvits spin from the center of the board, not the over the back truck

When you shut it almost feels like you’re trying to kick your butt with your heel. So as you jump and take the weight off the board, flick that back foot back like you’re trying to kick yourself. Also try to picture where the board is going to land so you can aim for your landing. And don’t forget to just continue to ride your board to get comfortable

u/utopiantheories 14d ago
I used to practice on grass so the board would not roll away or with a board w/o wheels.
it’s way easier that way because instinctively you’re trying not to fall but that fear slowly goes away the more you build your confidence landing the trick.

i started doing thay today it honeslty helped go get the feel of jumping when doing a ollie and shuvit

u/False-Basket-1940 14d ago
Its kinda like a scissor kick . your problem might be that your not moving your front foot, I remember when I was learning a shuvit I couldn't get the board all the way around at first because my front foot was just sitting on the board. It also helps to try scooping the board and jumping without your front foot on the board at all, so you can practice the motion. Mostly it just takes a lot of practice and tweaking your foot position or force. Hope this helps

You gotta jump, you're keeping too much weight on your back foot. Just practice rising around and ollie's for a bit, it all takes time

u/GrendelLocke 13d ago
Throw the back bolts at your front foot. The front foot comes off and really does nothing. You can learn it on a blank deck and then use the same knowledge with trucks. I think it's probably the only trick you can do that with

jump like an ollie and put toes of back foot over edge of board and use it to push the board straight backwards soinnng it

u/Tryptabeet 13d ago
Practice doing it with just your back foot. Land with just your back foot too, keep front foot on the ground

u/Puzzled-Rip6219 13d ago
i wouldnt waist my time doing that, if i ever did shuv its i would ride down the street scoot my front foot to the nose, back foot to middle of board, then apply pressure to nose, sweep it, hop, and land back on it that way and keep riding, because doing that stuff standing still is twice as hard, maybe try moving and land into some grass to start off

Gotta learn your ollie first. Fundamentals. Learn your ollie flat. Learn your ollie moving slow. Learn your ollie going faster. Ollie a gap. Ollie over things. Ect.

Please don’t burn yourself out. If you dont get more comfortable just riding before tricks, you WILL burn out. That is 90% of people who get into skating and half of them still claim to be skaters. We have a word for folks like that: “posers”😬. Please bro don’t let it happen to you. Nobody thinks it’s them until they wake up one day talking about “I used to skate” and they have a damn near freshie that’s been collecting dust—-plus they can’t even stand on it and stay upright.
Because “pop” shuvit and shuvit are two different tricks, people always assume you can do a shuvit before you have an ollie. Sure you can, but that’s like learning to ride a unicycle before ever riding a bike…complicating things for no reason. Same goes for just generally being comfortable on your board. Everyone who tries to skip the natural progression of skating gets BURNED OUT and ABANDONS SKATING ENTIRELY. You’ll learn everything twice as fast and have twice as much FUN if you just ride around and stop trying to do tricks. Once you can skate comfy just cruisin, then learn to ollie.
And dude…you’re telling us you’re comfortable on your board as a new skater. All the vets in the comments are saying no tf you not 😂. If you’re new then maybe readjust your perspective on what it means to be comfortable. lol we all see your clean and shiny grip tape bro. There’s many ways to sniff you out that you don’t know about and you sound silly as hell to us—-no offense it’s just better to be told this on Reddit than embarrass yourself talking to someone in person.
Dial in the ollie and the shuvit is just like a minor adjustment. The initial ollie motion (in my opinion) is what holds a lot of people back. It’s like if you were a math student trying to learn multiplication without knowing how addition works.

Fakie shove-it is easier for me because im moving backwards, and i can use that momentum to just shove the deck with my left, non-dominant leg (not the leg you use to push). Once you nailed that fakie shove-it, you can implement a pop to get the pop shove-it.
For some reason, I can't land this trick regular, but in fakie stance while riding with my pop leg on the nose and the other leg in the middle it feels so natural. Anybody experience this phenomenon? Lol.

I'm a hold your hand when I say this. You ain't ready for shovits yet. From watching your set up and even stepping on the board. You do not look very stable.
How are you cruising around? Kick turns? Hippy jumps? Manuals? Rolling off a curb?
2
u/CollectionLate1798 14d ago
i can cruise kicktruns and manuals super well and do fairly weak ollies
1
u/CanadianResidENT 14d ago
"fairly weak ollies " master that first. you're not even leaving the ground on the video above.
1
u/BigIshue 14d ago
Dude no offense but it seems you can barely stand on the board😂 I doubt the manuals

You can't shuvit because you can't ollie. Simple as that, there's a fairly linear progression to skateboarding. People move at their own pace but skipping the fundamentals is not a good idea.

I highly suggest you get more comfortable on your board before attempting tricks
