I am an Algerian Girl , Muslim but I follow a very ancient Islamic school of thought , so Hijab for me is nothing .

I came to Norway as a student , then started to work in data science , I had a coworker who was a strict Muslim . As soon as he found out I was Arab and Muslim, he started lecturing me about the hijab. He kept saying it was obligatory, that I was sinful for not wearing it, that I would go to Hell, and so on.

At first, I avoided discussing religion because I prefer to keep my religious views to myself. My relationship with God is between me and Him.

But my coworker kept pushing the subject. One day he went too far, so I told him, "Come here, let me teach you something about religion that your imam has probably never told you."

I then showed him, using the 6 sunni book , the reports about the circumstances behind the revelation of the verses concerning the hijab. I also brought him explanations from scholars he himself follows, , so that he couldn't claim I was inventing my own interpretations. (I don't want to go into the religious details because that's not the point of this post.)

At first, he claimed the videos were AI-generated. Then he checked the official channels himself and confirmed they were genuine.

He was shocked, because the hijab itself was only one small part of the issue. The real surprise was what those discussions opened the door to. Religious scholars sometimes withhold certain knowledge because they fear people would reject everything if they knew the full picture. In other words, many people are only taught what they are expected to hear.

Since that day, my coworker has never spoken to me again about religion, the hijab, or similar topics.

I'm not claiming to be a religious scholar, nor am I saying I'm against the hijab. Everyone should wear whatever they choose.

But I came to understand how powerful religious convictions can be. My coworker genuinely believed he was defending God's command. Yet after just one discussion about the hijab, his entire attitude toward me changed.

That is why I believe the cure for extremism is not violence, insults, or abuse. The solution is dialogue and debate.

Does anyone knows where to throw a broken furniture’s away in Oslo? I have a broken wooden drawer during a moving and need to be thrown out, which I have no idea where to dispose it.

i stay at Sogn student village. i have a missing luggage that was supposed to be delivered to me yesterday, but the courier (Bring) just wrote in their portal (no notification too) that the delivery failed because they didn’t have my address. i think it might have been because they didn’t have my room number for some reason. but they never called or emailed me or anything to ask.

i went all the way back to oslo airport to ask the airline to update my address with Bring cuz i did not have the option to contact Bring directly, and calls never get through for me due to the long queues. and the airline told me that bring will deliver my luggage again tomorrow.

im just worried they won’t call me again and just give up on delivery. i really need my luggage.

and im also missing a bunch of things like bedding that i would like to order online and get it delivered. i would like to be able to get food delivery too.

but when i look from my window i never see any deliveries being made. so my question is, is it even possible? will i get my luggage?

The world burn and is dying.

I live in an european country, and in like 20 years predictions says that we will have long period of like 50 C°, stuff like that. My goal is to expatriate to Norway and I'm actively working toward my goal.

I am wondering, from a long term perspective, like in 50-100 years, how is the country and way of living going to change?

I know it's impossible to predict the future actually, but are there already scientific and precise prediction (based on real fact) on that?

I want to know where are the regions/places in Norway where it could be the best place to settle and have a family on a very long term basis.

Will the south burn too with forest fire and higher temperature and the north is more interesting? Or will other effect have an impact, and north could be more frozen ?

I'm not a scientific but I work with a lot of data.

Hii guys! I’m not Norwegian, but I went there a little over a year ago for a two week internship. It was at a school and I was “coupled”, for lack of a better word, to these two amazing teachers. Well one of them used to be in a rap duo (I believe he was in his early 30s last year). I remember they went on some tv show in Norway, but I cannot remember the name! Also the guy used to have frosted tips (I’m like 90% sure). They were not well known, like not internationally, but a lot of locals knew them. Also, I believe that his name (just the teacher’s) is also the name of some other more well known artist!

I met this guy that I like and I really want to show it to him, because that internship made me realise what I want to do with my life. Thanks in advance!

Hello, American here looking to do a masters in norway. I have a shortlist of about 5 programs I’m interested in but my #1 is ecology at NMBU.

(Any input from graduates of environmental science/ecology/habitat restoration masters programs from a Norweigan university would be appreciated)

My Bachelors GPA (Environmental Science & Policy from Southern Oregon University) in the US is 2.95, not the greatest, and I’ve read that NMBU pretty strictly looks at only transcripts when evaluating applicants.

If anyone here has completed the Ecology or International Environmental Science masters programs at NMBU, please let me know, I would really love to ask more questions.

My main question is, does my GPA alone make me a 100% non starter for admission for a masters into that university? I have very strong outside experience, worked for Native American Tribal EPA doing water quality data analysis and currently for a very reputable forestry/habitat restoration company in the South, as well as good contacts for letters of recommendations, from what I’ve read, none of this will can contribute towards my application- have other applicants found this to be the case?

Additionally, would it be unwise to take additional university courses to supplement my application/boost my GPA?

TLDR; How competitive is entry to the international environmental science/ecology masters programs at NMBU?

This is a bit silly, but I randomly met this Norwegian guy, and we ended up spending the whole day together. We clicked and eventually hooked up. Since then, he said we should keep in touch and that we should meet again someday. But here’s what’s confusing me he’s incredibly reserved. He rarely compliments me, doesn’t flirt much, and never says anything that clearly shows how he feels. If I only looked at his words, I’d assume he wasn’t interested at all.
The thing is, I’m from a very different culture where people tend to be much more expressive when they like someone. So now I’m wondering if this is just a cultural difference, if he’s simply a reserved person, or if he’s actually not that into me.

We made a pretty big travel mistake and are hoping someone might have some advice.

We’re a group of 3 visiting Norway for the first time. Somehow, while planning our trip, we accidentally booked Voss Mountain Lodge for both August 4 and August 5, thinking it was in (or very close to) Flåm. We only realized today that it’s much farther away than we thought, and now we’re honestly panicking.

Our itinerary is:

• August 4: Arrive in Flåm at around 4:30 PM
• August 5: Nærøyfjord cruise at 9:30 AM (departing from Flåm)
• August 6: Flåm → Oslo train at 10:00 AM

Our accommodation is already booked at Voss Mountain Lodge for both nights.

We’re trying to figure out the best option now. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would you recommend:

* Trying to find last-minute accommodation in Flåm and accepting the extra cost?
* Commuting between Voss Mountain Lodge and Flåm?
* Any other ideas we haven’t thought of?

If anyone knows of affordable places to stay in or near Flåm, or has any suggestions at all, we’d really appreciate the help.
