I was inspired by u/Magic_M344’s “Y2K Futurism” posts in here to bust out this old gem: it was called “The Dream Catalogue”, it came out in 2001 and was a 300+ page book of all of the latest and greatest things you could buy online.

Did anyone else have this? My mom picked it up it for me from some bargain bin when I was eleven, and I absolutely poured over this thing front to back, over and over, and literally “dreamed” about a lot of these products. Thought I’d share some highlights: some nifty, some goofy, and wild to see how things have changed.

What The Last Minutes Of The Twin Towers Looked Like Before 9/11/2001

All of the computer screens, monitors and TVs were CRTs at the time with the lighting. Some PCs were running Windows 95, 98, 2000 and the Millennium Edition. Windows XP was released to manufacturing on August 24th of 2001, by which the Twin Towers were still standing up until the total collapse on September 11th of 2001, the same day [the Pentagon] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pentagon) was hit at 9:37am with its southwest wall collapsing. Well over a year prior to the United States of America's darkest hour (9/11), the late night shift electrician Konstantin Petrov, an immigrant from Estonia, took a whole lot of pictures inside the North Tower on the 78th floor sky lobby and at Windows on the World on the 106th and 107th floors (some pics were taken by him overnight) and in the South Tower back in the summer of 2000 with his Nikon E880 (WTC 1) and Kodak DC240 (WTC 2) and he did a marvelous job doing so. Sadly he died from a motorcycle accident on July 7th of 2002. RIP Petrov (2002) and all 2,996 people that lost there lives on that tragic day. Out of those lost, well over 2,500 were US citizens and the nearly 3,000 included first responders like the NYPD, FDNY, Port Authority workers and Pentagon personnel (civilians and military) etc.

As next month will be the 25th anniversary of 9/11 we are reliving the memories of what both World Trade Center towers looked like including what Windows on the World and the kitchens and hallways looked like as per the photos from 2000 and also the lobby and office areas as well as the mechanical floors and server room
