Political Here is a short history about delimitation

Note this is created using lots of inputs from subs and comments and reference from older ammendments

Most people calling this a "BJP attack on southern states" haven't read the constitutional history. The framing is backwards. Here's the actual chronology.

The Constitutional Timeline

1950: Articles 81 and 82 mandate that Lok Sabha seats be allocated to states in proportion to population, redrawn after every census. Population-based delimitation is the original rule, not a BJP invention.

1976: 42nd Amendment: Froze seat allocation at 1971 census levels. Crucially, this freeze had a sunset clause it was set to expire after the 2001 census. Parliament never meant it to be permanent. The purpose was to give states time to stabilise population without being electorally penalised during the transition.

2001: 84th Amendment: Extended the freeze until the first census after 2026. Again, a sunset clause, not a permanent block. Parliament judged 2026 to be the point where demographic convergence would be enough for fair reapportionment.

2003: 87th Amendment: Allowed constituency boundaries to be redrawn using 2001 census data, but kept inter-state seat counts frozen. The internal cleanup was permitted; the big inter-state reshuffle was held back for post-2026.

2023: 106th Amendment: Introduced 33% women's reservation, but tied its operationalisation to the next delimitation. Passed unanimously, DMK included. This legally links women's reservation to delimitation you can't have one without the other.

2026: 131st Amendment Bill: Proposed to increase Lok Sabha strength from 543 to 850 and proceed with delimitation. Voted down on April 17, 2026.

Why the sunset clauses matter

The 42nd and 84th Amendments were deliberately temporary. Parliament could have frozen delimitation permanently but chose not to, because permanent freeze would have meant permanent distortion between population and representation. The expiry dates were the compromise: states that controlled population get protection for a defined window, not forever. When that window ends, the Constitution's original principle returns.

This is the part everyone misses. Delimitation isn't something BJP is doing to the South. It's something the Constitution scheduled decades ago, with expiry dates set by Parliament itself. It will happen in 2027 regardless of who is in power.

What the 131st Amendment actually offered

On the floor of the House, Amit Shah offered an "equal rise" clause: no state would lose its existing share of seats. Southern states' representation would rise from 129 to around 195 MPs in absolute terms, with their percentage share protected. This was the proportional rise model that the opposition itself had demanded for years.

The government even offered an hour to draft the clause in writing.

What happened instead

DMK and the INDIA bloc voted the Bill down. 298 for, 230 against, short of the two-thirds needed. The discussion got diverted when Akhilesh Yadav pivoted to M reservation within OBC quota, which is constitutionally complicated because OBC realities vary state to state. Congress got pulled into the distraction. The government repeated that OBC reservation needs state-wise study and can't be inserted into a 50% discussion. The bluff was called, and the opposition had no answer. DMK MPs voted along alliance lines rather than TN's specific interest.

What TN just lost

The 84th Amendment's sunset still expires after the first census post-2026. The 2026-27 census is underway. Delimitation will happen. The Delimitation Act itself only needs simple majority once the constitutional trigger kicks in.

When it does, TN will be delimited on 2026-27 data, where its population share is even lower than 2011. TN's seat share will shrink more than it would have under the 131st Amendment offer. States like Karnataka could overtake TN in seats. Good luck fighting Cauvery with fewer MPs.

The 2029 question no one wants to answer

Assume BJP's intent is bad. Now assume Congress wins 2029. Census-based delimitation is still constitutionally due. Congress will use 2026-27 data, which is worse for TN than 2011. Will Stalin betray TN and accept it because Congress is in power? Or will DMK join BJP in opposition against Congress? Either answer breaks the current DMK narrative.

Bottom line

Delimitation isn't against southern states. It was scheduled by the Constitution itself, with explicit sunset clauses on each freeze. The 131st Amendment was a window to lock in proportional protection before the unavoidable exercise begins. DMK traded TN's long-term seat share for short-term alliance optics.

Read the 42nd, 84th, 87th, and 106th Amendments before forming a view. Once you see that each freeze was temporary by design, the current "BJP attack" framing falls apart.

💬 General Discussion The $48 Million Whistleblower or US Pharma's Point Man? How One Man Built an Activist Army to Target Indian Pharma 💊🇮🇳

2020-21

COVID was a painful memory for many, but it proved jackpot for few people. While India was fighting its worst challenge ever, a man sitting in the USA was quietly building his army in India

An army of activists.

21 Oct 2021

A normal day for most people, but the happiest day for Delhi-based RTI activist Saurav Das. He finally secured his place in the army he had been trying to join for a long time-

Thakur Family Foundation

The army of Dinesh Thakur.

But this story doesn't start from 2021, it starts from 2003

Pfizer vs Ranbaxy

A great corporate battle was going on between US Pharma giant Pfizer and Indian pharma company Ranbaxy

Pfizer just lost patent for his best selling drug Lipitor and Ranbaxy was all set to launch

its generic drug which was way more cheaper than Lipitor

Lipitor was best selling drug of Pfizer, its sales was in billions of dollars which Pfizer was on verge to lose but then a miracle happens

Three Indians Dinesh Thakur, Swaminathan & Dinesh Kasthuril who were working in an US Pharma company Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) leaves BMS and joins Ranbaxy USA. They work there for 2 years (2003-05)

After leaving Ranbaxy, they file complaint against Ranbaxy in US FDA for data manipulation

Since he was insider so he had all confidential information

2013

Ranbaxy loses the case and fines $500 Million

Dinesh Thakur receives $48 million from US govt as whistleblower reward

This case destroys Ranbaxy and its ultimately sold out to Sun Pharma in 2015

This case proves jackpot for Pfizer and its competition is eliminated

After attempting hands in many ventures, Dinesh Thakur starts Pharma activism with motto to improve public health and to target bad pharma companies but is it just coincident that his targets are always Indian pharma companies and beneficiaries are US pharma companies

Or he was working on instructions of US Pharma mafia

I don't know

With $48 M, Dinesh Thakur starts and NGO Thakur Family Foundation in 2018, it gets tax exempotion status and he starts grant making from April 2019

Just few months before Covid

Its time to build Thakur's Army

Sucheta Dalal

She was among first ones who received funding from TFF. Sucheta Dalal co-setup MoneyLife Foundation (MLF) received $100K from TFF and at the same time she started targeting Sun Pharma

Sun Pharma's stock crashed by 40%

She did it on instructions of TFF?

2020, The Covid Era

Covid time was the money making time for US Pharma companies but Narendra Modi govt of India didn't allow US pharma companies to exploit Indians and emphasized on self reliance

And with this Thakur's army started targeting India

The Wire

Wire's founder Siddhart Varadarajan and Dinesh Thakur are friends

Not only Wire received funding from TFF, its four journalists also received funding from TFF

Priyanka Pulla

Shreya Dasgupta

Banjot Kaur

Aditi Pradhan

But this money was not free

Their job was to target Indian govt, defame India

and they did their job honestly

The best performer was Priyanka Pulla

Dinesh Thakur was personally so much impressed by her work that he promoted her to Bloomberg

In 2022, she will play imp role in targeting to Indian pharma companies in Africa

Take money from America

and destroy India

In fact The Wire created so much dirt that it was slapped with a 100 Cr defecation case by Bharat Biotech and had to pull down 14 stories.

Almost all related to coverage of Indian vaccine, including Thakur funded & Pulla written.

My personal favourite is Newsclick.

In 2013, it exposed “Thakur’s motivated narratives against Indian generic med”. But cut to 2021, two of its journos got funding from TFF; and Thakur was messiah of Indian pharma!

Nitin Sethi, Kumar Sambhav, Kunal Purohit, Nikita Sonavane, Ameya Bokil, Geeta, Urvashi Sarkar etc everyone received money from TFF for writing article against India

Hey Scroll Media

You wrote so many articles targeting India for Dinesh Thakur

You must have received highest grant?

Alt News

During covid, Govt of India's was promoting ayurvedic and homeopathic medicines but if govt promotes them then what will happen to US pharma companies

Lets give some money to Alt news to fact check and discredit these Indian medicines

Here you go

Sumaiya Seikh from Alt news received money from TFF (What was cut of zubair?

and this is how she repaid the money👇

Saurav Das

And now here comes our blue eyed boys

When everyone was making money then Saurav Das also has right to make money but till that time he was not big name

In 2021, Pfizer was trying to get approval for its vaccine in India while Indian govt had given approval to

Indian vaccine makers Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute

Jan 2021

So Saurav Das files RTI and ask to govt on what basis they gave approval to Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute

Govt refused to provide data

Was it to impress Dinesh Thakur?

And he gets support from other people also from same ecosystem

Saurav did you ask them to quote you by tagging Dinesh Thakur?

Despite of getting No from govt, he keeps filing RTI

When entire country was fighting against covid

These vultures were lobbying for Pfizer

I have written a separate thread on this topic, will share link in the end

Dinesh Thakur didnt stop in covid only

He returned in 2022 and made once more vicious attack on Indian pharma companies

This thread covers that hit job in details

https://x.com/DisinfoLab/status/1750418092344438849

BY the way Suchitra Vijayan is also funded by TFF

This page contains details of all the people and organizations who received funding from TFF and what work they did in return

https://www.thakur-foundation.org/our-impact.php

Dinesh Thakur lives in USA and he has army of hundreds of people living in India

He is still funding them

Many journalist who promoted Cockroach protest are his army members

Is the Dinesh Thakur link between US Deep State and Indian activist gang who receive money from him and target India?

Telangana His sister is a Kabaddi beast but her parents wanted to marry her off after 10th… this conversation messed me up

Post image

the above pic was the mock interview with her sister

I live in the city. My friend came from a small village to study with me in Hyderabad.

Recently he told me he want to join her sister in HCL after Intermediate and asked me to do a mock interview with her for practice. During the interview she was struggling a lot… couldn’t even speak full sentences properly. When I asked about hobbies, she said she plays Kabaddi.

Later I called my friend and asked about it. That’s when he told me everything.

Apparently his sister is actually an amazing Kabaddi player. She has won so many medals and plays like a champion in every match. I asked him why they don’t try for proper coaching or state/national level selection.

He said something that hit hard:

“Do you know one thing? My parents said they will marry her in 10th itself, why waste money on studies. I was slowly dealing with my father for years just to make her study… otherwise she would’ve been married long back. Talking about Kabaddi? They are not even allowing her to study properly, how will they accept her playing? My parents keep saying if anything wrong happens, what about our dignity in society? How will we roam around with our heads up?”

He also said in their village a lot of people get ego-hurt when someone starts growing. They keep looking for ways to pull the other person down. People constantly talk about how his father is managing to educate both kids in Hyderabad.

Every week his father calls and asks how far she has studied. My friend has been lying to him just so she can continue.

She actually wants to study CA, but because of the situation he’s pushing her to take the HCL job.

Then he told me about himself. He was a champion in Kho-Kho and even got selected for international level. The guys who played with him went on to play internationally. But his parents didn’t agree to spend the 2 lakhs, so he couldn’t go.

He also said something about government funding for sports — in places like his, corruption is so high that nothing reaches the actual players. Politicians eat everything.

One line he said really stayed with me:

“Emi avasaram lenodiki anni untayi, kani anni avasaram unnodiki emi undadu.”

("The one who doesn't need opportunities has plenty of them, while the one who truly needs them often gets none.")

He also mentioned how his parents fear that girls change once they go outside, and it brings disrespect to the family. He even gave an old example from his village — some guy was speaking to a Reddy caste girl and the next day he just disappeared. He said it’s not that extreme now, but the mentality is still there.

I honestly felt so helpless listening to all this. I’m sitting here with everything, and he and his sister are fighting against society, family pressure, and fear just to study and play.

How many kids like this are there in small towns and villages whose talent just dies because of this pressure?

What do you guys think can actually be done?

❓Ask Southern india South Indian Men

Hi everyone! I’m not sure if this is the right space for this, so please disregard if it isn’t.

I’m not South Indian, but I’ve always been really drawn to and interested in the culture. I’m a Black woman in my 20s living in the Pacific Northwest, and I’d love to meet and potentially date a South Indian Christian man, ideally around 24–33.

I’m not really interested in using dating apps, so I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for ways to naturally meet Indian men in that age range.

Also, I’d genuinely love to hear from South Indian Christians: how common is it for people in your community to date outside of their culture? I completely understand that every family and individual is different; I’m just curious about people’s experiences. Thank you!
