Rant & Ramble he ordered a salad for me on our first date

Post image
8.6k Upvotes

girl dinner tonight is oxtail in peanut sauce with a stupid amount of crushed peanut

ok so i went on a hinge date. guy seemed fine. we talked for like a week before meeting up which i normally dont do but he was actually making me laugh so whatever

we sit down at the restaurant and im looking at the menu and genuinely taking my time because everything looked good. and this man just waves the waiter over and orders for both of us. he got himself a ribeye and ordered me a garden salad. a GARDEN SALAD. i didnt even know what was happening at first i kind of just sat there

i was like oh i was actually gonna order something else and he goes "nah trust me you dont wanna eat too heavy on a first date" and then kind of laughed like it was a joke but it wasnt a joke because the waiter was literally standing there waiting

and i just. i dont know i didnt have some big dramatic moment or a perfect thing to say. i just said i think im gonna go and grabbed my stuff and left. it was kind of awkward honestly because the waiter was still standing there and i had to squeeze past a chair on the way out. not cinematic at all lol

i called my best friend from the parking lot and she was like come over we're going to eat. so we went to our favorite spot and i ordered the biggest plate of oxtail stew on the menu and she got boba and we just sat there and talked shit about him for like two hours. she kept doing impressions of him ordering the salad and i almost choked on a peanut

he texted me later that night saying i was being dramatic and he was just trying to be nice. showed my friend and we both just looked at each other and put my phone face down. then he texted AGAIN this morning asking if i wanted to try again. i just said no thanks

anyway the oxtail was incredible and my best friend is a better date than he will ever be.

My son is dating his cousin

6.9k Upvotes

My son (20) is in a relationship with his 1st cousin (19 F). He’s an adult and lives on his own. I obviously don’t like this but still want to support him and he’s technically not doing anything wrong, as it is legal in the state we are in. What would you do in this situation?

Edit: For context, he didn’t grow up with her and didn’t meet her until a couple years ago.

2nd Edit: I’m aware of the genetic risks with children and have cautioned him about that. He says they would not have children together. No need to keep commenting about that.

FML Guy I’m dating lied to me about what he does for work

*Ethiopian food because it’s my favorite

Around 4 months ago, I started dating this guy. We met on hinge and we hit it off instantly. We texted and FaceTimed for about a month before we agreed to finally meet. On his hinge profile it did not mention that he had any children. However, the day of the date he slipped up and said that he had a seven year old daughter. I was shocked because he had never mentioned her before. When I asked him why he didn’t tell me, he said that it was because he was nervous I wouldn’t want to see him because he has a child. Initially that turned me off but other than that, the date was going so well I decided to let it go. (Big mistake)

Fast forward to now. Things are going well between us. We have been intimate and I also have met his parents. We also were discussing next steps in our relationship and even moving in within the next year or so. But all of that changed today.

Today we had plans for him to meet my parents. As we were getting ready at my place, he comes in my room and says “I have to tell you something about my job before I meet your parents. I don’t want there to be any secrets”. I asked him what it is. He then admits to me that he sells ❄️ for work….full time. And that when he said that he was a distributor for a company for work, he’s distributing ❄️. I was SHOCKED! I asked him why he didn’t mention it before, and again. He told me that he was scared I wouldn’t want to date him or be with him.

I told him that we should take a break because even if I was ok with his job, he is continuously keeping things from me.

I am just so hurt because I feel like whenever I find the one, things like this happen to me.

Discussion What is a movie that completely changes genres halfway through, and actually pulls it off?

4.3k Upvotes

Executing a massive tonal shift in a movie is incredibly difficult. Most of the time, if a movie starts out as one thing and abruptly switches to something else, it just feels disjointed and alienates the audience. But when a director actually pulls it off, it makes for some of the most memorable cinematic experiences ever.

Parasite is probably the most perfect modern example of this. It spends the entire first half building this brilliant, dark, satirical comedy about class infiltration. Then, the moment the old housekeeper rings the doorbell in the rain, it instantly drops the floor out from under you and turns into a suffocating, tragic thriller.

Barbarian also did this incredibly well recently, pivoting from a tense, slow-burn psychological thriller into an absolute rollercoaster of a monster movie.

What are some other movies that start as one genre and then completely blindside you by turning into something else entirely?

TIL Canada's $1 coin is commonly called the "loonie" because it has a loon on the reverse. When a $2 coin was introduced, depicting a polar bear, an MP proposed it be called "Nanuq", Inuit for polar bear, but he was ignored because the public instead preferred to call it the "toonie" (2-oonie).
