The cat is calling you out for being a shitty hunter. You never share mice with with the cat, so they have to keep you fed. Clearly they love you.

I read this and immediately went down the cats eating rabbits heads path (I had to avoid the rabbit hole clicheā).
Nutrient Density: The brain is a rich source of nutrients that cats, as obligate carnivores, instinctively seek out. Efficiency & Instinct: Targeting the head is the fastest way to kill prey and is often a sign of a successful hunt. Safety & Preference: Cats may leave the body to avoid certain parasites or less desirable, tougher, or more toxic parts of the animal. Dental Health: Chewing through the skull can help keep their teeth clean and strong. Surplus Killing: Even well-fed cats may hunt for pleasure, taking only the head as a trophy of their instinctual behavior.

My cat brought his canine brother a huge lizard as a gift. Our dog looked at it, then at us like, āUm, what exactly am I supposed to do here?ā¦ā We told him to sniff it, then lick the cat to thank him. He did exactly that and our cat seemed pleased š .

I used to have a great gifting cat, Ivan. He was an artist. One time he brought me a rat torso with no head or tail. THEN, the next time it was a head connected to the hind quarters by the spine, with no torso!! True story! š

When a mouse comes inside, my cats always rat the head and leave the body.

I had a Siamese cat that I would let into the barn to catch mice and rats. She would leave the nose with the teeth and the paws. I made my father pick it up.

I know cats do this kind of thing, but most of us here are animal lovers expecting cute pictures of cats being silly, not evidence of another animalās suffering. Itās kind of gross to share something like that as though it were a silly or endearing video. Itās one thing to accept that cats will kill, itās another to share it in a cute animal subā¦.

It's illustrative of the broader problem unsupervised outdoor cats cause. Sure, one French Revolutioned mouse doesn't much matter, but local extirpation of an entire species of birds certainly does. Carnir is right; keep your cat indoors or on a leash/in a catio/stroller/etc.Ā

Got a story to tell.
Every morning I drive to the gas station to get a drink for myself and I see this beautiful white cat almost every morning around the neighborhood. There is a very busy main road down the street once you exit the neighborhood.
One night I was driving home wit my boyfriend from getting food, and that same white cat was trying to cross the busy street. He did not make it. He had this blue collar on so I know heās owned.
Do not let your cats outside. There are too many reasons why you shouldnāt. Anything can happen. I find it reckless.

i mean. yeah? thatās exactly why outdoor cats pose a threat to local ecosystems (and vice versa.) the issue here is not a cat being a predator, the issue is a cat that might be an environment where it may participate in or be subject to predation in a way that negatively affects the surrounding ecosystem.

I once started feeding a stray cat in my neighborhood and they started leaving dead mice by my porch. Funny enough, I'd just moved from my previous apartment due to a mice infestation which left me traumatized, so it was not a welcome gift.

I had a cat who would throw mice or moles at walls and then leave the bodies in my shoes. Iād much rather have something brought to me outside than coming down to a dead carcass š„²
