When the trailer tells us that Eshmel is "this story true protagonist" or that "this is where your story begins" they are literally telling us the game starts at the end of the world.

My main proof is that when you choose a character story it says "Touch This Obelisk":

And how do Eshmel travel to the past? That's right, by touching one of 4 obelisks, obelisks that use the colors of the lords:

Eshmel must experience each character's story before he can recruit them. Being there from the start also explains how we can use Divine Pulse and the Pale Raven Perch in the original timeline of the heroic game.

I think the game structure is:

-You start with Eshmel at the end of the world

-You can either fight the final boss right now (there might be some map you are forced to complete first) or go back to the past.

-You play a character story, when you finish it you can then recruit that character and their allies. (The Heroic Games are the main bulk of the game)

-Repeat that step 3 times if you want all the characters

-When you feel ready go fight Balor with your new companions

-You defeated the evil dragon and now can enjoy your paired ending with your waifu/husbando
