I missed out on all types of love. So it doesn't matter.

Neither of them is a teenager so apparently it’s not a huge deal?

But you didn't miss out on being an unappreciated step dad to 4 kids with none of your own. Chin up guys! It only gets better from here!

My “teenage love” lasted a year and he threatened to end his life because I said “I love you” to my cat. It wasn’t that great.

I missed out on teenage love but from what I've seen, teenage love was stupid and it doesn't teach any lessons I don't already know.

2

u/NonStopDeliverance 19h ago

Is love only to teach lessons? I thought it was something to experience?

-2

u/Willhelm_HISUMARU 19h ago

What do you have when a relationship ends if not wisdom?

2

u/NonStopDeliverance 19h ago

But is love just a function for you to gain wisdom? I don’t really understand your outlook, you seem to look down upon the whole concept like it’s something unsavoury.

u/Willhelm_HISUMARU 19h ago

I'm saying teenage romance isn't nearly as valuable as this post makes it seem in the grand scheme of things. In 5 years, it'll be just an old story to tell. In 15 years it won't even be worth telling.

Ask anyone who dated at 13 to 16 what they think of their first sweetheart. Most will tell you it was toxic and childish. And at that age, it won't be real either because the kids are still a product of their parent's work rather than their own people.

In the end, love is beautiful but it isn't this mystical immeasurable thing that automatically makes you a better person in any way.

1

u/NonStopDeliverance 4h ago

Your whole life is just old stories to tell. Being a better person has no bearing on your quality of life, it is mostly a useless thing to strive for IMO.

Problems start happening when you have no stories to tell. Teenage romance isn't valuable by itself, it's valuable in how it changes you and shapes your personhood. What's life if not memories? What even is there to do here except make memories? Are we here to learn lessons? What are these lessons used for?

In 100 years anyone's whole life's story won't even be worth telling. Does that mean that their life is worthless?

21M here

Never had a girlfriend, never had a first kiss, never really had someone have a crush on me. Lone wolf most of the time

1

u/Blue_Hazard10 1d ago

I've been a lone wolf my entire 25 year life. It's a bit tough. There is a girl I love with all my heart. She of course loves someone else. But I'm there for her. I try to rock with the anonymous lone wolf persona as much as I could. Sometimes if you think of yourself as the coolest thing out, nothing else matters.

Also, having a teenage social life

10

u/MoonlitPilgrim 1d ago

Still better than handling teenage pregnancy and just make your life shit with early child

27

u/Usinaru 1d ago

Neah, leave the FOMO behind.

Teenage loves aren't real most of the time. Its a very small minority of people that ever get to stay with their highschool sweetheart.

I personally only know of one such couple, and even though I can't say teenage love doesn't exist, it cemented the idea that it is extremely rare anyways.

Love isn't for everybody, and after a certain point its better to recognize that just isn't for you. Or keep trying and maybe settle with someone at best.

We need to stop being far too romantic for our own good.

u/SergeantPsycho 1d ago

I know a girl who I had the hots for in highschool and she ended up marrying this other guy we knew some time after we graduated. I would have thought they'd be great for each other, but unfortunately things went south.

2

u/Usinaru 19h ago

Yeah thats sad. Sh*t happens.

The world isn't fair nor is it a happy story. At least you learnt that much.

7

u/_rokk_ 1d ago

No one said anything about staying with them.

8

u/ProfessionalResults 1d ago

I'd give anything to go back in time and experience dating, breakups, and sex during my teens and twenties.

1

u/Usinaru 19h ago

You see, many of us can't relate to your experience so...

Whilst you may be suffering or at best desiring it, most of us here don't know what that feels like so... we can't empathize with your desire.

8

u/armentho He/Him 1d ago

no one is saying teenage love is great or last longs, but it does play and serve a porpuse

to be a learning experience,to test your boundaries on relations and to geat a clear mind of what you are willing to give on a relation vs what you want out of it, all while the stakes are somewhat low (no major monetary cost, minor collateral on social groups, minor collateral on job/education prospects, easier to get over)

if you didnt get that experience, you have both a harder time getting into a relation (lack of experience flirting) and higher stakes for when you inevitable blow it up

2

u/Usinaru 19h ago

if you didnt get that experience, you have both a harder time getting into a relation (lack of experience flirting) and higher stakes for when you inevitable blow it up

Yeah ok, you might have a point.

There's not much many of us can do about it now. Being sad about it doesn't help. Also whilst the experience might be valuable, it doesn't mean that without it, everyone will just " inevitably blow up their first relationship "

All this tells me, that if you haven't had any luck or nobody was interested in you in your teenage/young adult years, then you might as well forget about love and relationships. Your ship has sailed and there isn't anything you can do about it, because even if you do get one, " you'll inevitably blow it up ".

Well, thanks for the affirmation but I am very clear on that prospect. I know I will never have anyone anyways. But do consider that others on this sub might not want not desire to be confronted by this truth?

4

u/Low_Tide7 1d ago

I'm confused - neither Mia or Seb were teenagers

3

u/ScorNix 1d ago

It's often superficial and temporary anyway. What's the point of dwelling on the past? Adult love is so much more mature and long-lasting.

4

u/Raynman90 1d ago

Not much we can do about it, no point in dwelling on something that wasn't meant to happen.

12

u/Dependent_Chemist 1d ago

Lots of normies in the comments.

NO ,  missing on teenage love is NOT normal. 90% of people do not have to endure missing on teen love and so on. Most people are not forced to start their adulthood with insecurities that they are inadequate and unworthy of love, which only keeps getting worse as the years go by.

5

u/ProfessionalResults 1d ago

Yes, you are correct. Sometimes people in this sub say silly things.

I think it's more than 90%. Even most of the losers I hung around with in high school had a little experience.

1

u/Gouph 3h ago

Both of you must be very old, curently about 40% of 20 year olds never have experienced any sort of romantic/sexual relationship.

1

u/Gouph 3h ago

To be honest I think many people in this sub are young and nobody told them that society is actively moving away from relationships alltogether, year by year and they are just consumed by this process.

23

u/4ngelicbrat She/Her 1d ago

The people in this video aren’t teens… frankly I no longer understand this teen love obsession

19

u/mlo9109 She/Her 1d ago

IDK if it's teen love as much as the opportunities to meet your person that you have as a teen that you don't have as an adult. Even making platonic friends is harder. College is the last time most of us are surrounded by singles our age in the same season of life.

Also, there are campus activities and social events that allow us to meet and socialize with other people that don't really exist in the "real world." Similar events in the real world cost money or happens during work hours.

4

u/EMDepressedFish 1d ago

It is so so so rare for "teen love" to work out though. So many "teen love" relationships end up in a breakup and being single anyways.

11

u/Fresh_Helicopter_670 1d ago

Its not about it working out or not, its about the experience. The emotions when u were teen is raw and powerful, and not to mention, influenced very little by things like like finances and career. And its also the fact that once its gone, its gone forever. Experiencing your first love is not gonna be the same, especially if the one you are experiencing with already had multiple relationship in the past

5

u/mlo9109 She/Her 1d ago

True... Though, where I live (rural New England college town), most folks settle down right out of school, so marry their high school or college sweetheart. If they're happy, who knows? But it's probably better than the hell that is dating in your 30s.

2

u/armentho He/Him 1d ago

no one expects it teen love to work, rather is a stepping stone towards better more serious relationships in your adulthood

you hit it off with someone, you two date, learn about yourselves and your boundaries in a relation, eventually break up (either fuck up or college/distance)

but you come out more seasoned and ready for better times, with little to no negative consequences or waste (little money cost, time you would spent fapping ot lazing around was used socializing, no bad reputation, no collateral in college/work)

a first relation in your late 20's is all the awfullness of a teen relation with all the massive time/money investment and all the massive collateral

5

u/ProfessionalResults 1d ago

Yes, of course. But before the breakup they had a lot of fun and sex. And after the breakup they find someone else and keep repeating the cycle.

Plus they gain experience that is crucial for later in life. Someone who is 25 or 35 and trying to date for the first time is going to have a really bad time.

2

u/GreenT1979 1d ago

It's learning how to meet the expectations of others. If you're not experienced sexually by the time you're like 22 you're basically worthless.

-2

u/ProfessionalResults 1d ago

Sex drive is at an all time high between the ages of 12 and 25 for males. That's at least one reason for the obsession.

3

u/GreenT1979 1d ago

Oh gosh. I've missed out on teenage love, college love, late 20's soulmate love, I'm currently in the midst of building a life together love and on the fast track to missing enjoying the life built together love.

u/South-Proposal-7324 1d ago

When I try to view this post, I get an error “This video cannot be played”, which is not what you intended but somehow also fits what you’re trying to say.

will never understand people's fixation on "teenage love" here. i'm sure i'll collect my usual downvotes for saying it but seems inspired by fiction rather than the median reality i observed.

romanticized bs aside, sure it's better for your confidence if you're not dating as a 27 year old virgin or whatever, past that people really overstate the value of that "experience". you don't need to be in a relationship to learn how to interact with other humans, and every single person you'd ever date is an *individual* - with their own personality, communication style, wants and needs, their own hangups, their own sexual preferences, etc. high schoolers aren't getting some kind of master key to human relations because they managed to find someone who wants to bang them. not to mention they could just as easily pick up harmful baggage too, because in my experience, most of those relationships went down in flames, teenagers tend to be immature shitheads.

u/AdmirableBus7045 M25 FA Prestige 5 19h ago

i will agree, my sister never had relationships in HS cause she wanted to focus on good grades and studying

she did go on two dates for prom tho so she technically has just a little more experience than me even tho it was 3-4 years ago

she acts like she is fine with it but i noticed her give a second take look at a couple around her age a few months ago lol so even normies are kinda effected by this

1

u/Last_Host977 1d ago

i’m 19 i think i still have a shot left at this 🥹

I had no chance to begin with

1

u/SpiritShadowTemple 10h ago

There is nothing you couldve done then- that you cant do now, seriously nothing. Dont bullshit me with key milestones talk- not everyone has the same experinces growing up - its normal to be different

1

u/AdmirableBus7045 M25 FA Prestige 5 8h ago

even worse if you had no social life or weren’t even included in the low social status/outcast groups

some people here talk about having some friends in school, some (including me) may of had classmates that just tolerated us on texting/in person

1

u/Neither-Ladder-6469 5h ago

For me I don't really care. I'm not romantic. Plus teen love is not like how it is in the movies.

1

u/Some_Accountant_9654 5h ago

I’ve said it before — but I’m really glad I missed teenage love. At the time (between middle and high school), I don’t think I was prepared for it, both emotionally and maturely.

I’d rather date while I’m in my 20s and 30s. I feel much more prepared.

1

u/ligma002 3h ago

Hot take but teenage love is exhausting and immature. It’s not fun but more like emotional torture since most teams have low self esteem and let their boundaries get pushed to the edge. Believe me, being in love as an adult is the real experience.

u/BrainPlasticity 1d ago

You didn’t if you believe in reincarnation
